After MANY, MANY hours of research on the internet and asking everyone I know with a child about car seats, I finally settled on getting a Britax Decathalon. It had some of the highest ratings on every site I visited. Britax in general was always rated at the top in every single category - safety, comfort, quality, etc. I do not regret my decision one bit! In fact, after having this car seat for a very short amount of time my husband and I both agreed it was well worth the money to buy another Decathalon. We have since bought a Marathon as well (for a friend's car - we would have gotten another Decathalon but they needed something smaller). So we both have a Decathalon in our car and it is wonderful. We started out just after our son was no longer able to fit safely in the carrier/click in base model. All of the padding and 5 point harness make this seat so safe and you are able to snugly fit a small to large child in it - just add or remove the padding accordingly. I...
...

I was very hesitate on paying this much for a car seat but after reading reviews and comparing the seat, it was a no brainer. My son is worth any amount it takes to keep him safe and this seat does just that. Fit great in our vehicles and is always snug and secure. My son is comfortable in the seat. He has been in it since he was a year and is turning 4 this month - he CANNOT unbuckle it which I love. I have hand washed the cover when needed and it still looks new. Wonderful seat.
...

cmyamamo says "A good solid carseat" about Britax Decathlon

I thoroughly reviewed convertible carseats before deciding to get the Britax Decathlon. My sister had one and loved it, so this helped. Plus the reviews online for this were great. It's expensive though but since it lasts until your kid is about 6, I felt that even though it was a lot of money up front, it would be worth it. Here is a tip as well...if you don't care about the color you can get this car seat for about $180.00 shipped.

I like this carseat. I don't love it. I'm very short and in order to get my daughter in this snuggly I have to crawl into my car to get leverage before I pull on the strap. This is difficult for my parents to do as they aren't as limber. The straps sometimes get a bit twisted when being pulled, so this makes it even more difficult.

Here's the good thing though, once she's in, I know she's in. The carseat is not only rated really well, it feels safe. My daughter seems to enjoy it and she's got plenty of room to grow.
...

lorijashmann says "GREAT BUY!!!!!! " about Britax Decathlon

I purchased the Britax Decathalon car seat approx 18 months ago. It was a difficult decision as to which car seat to purchase since there are so many on the market. We really like the carseat. It is very easy to get my daughter in/out. Also, it is easy to clean if there is a spill or accident. Light neutral color choices are available. The one downfall is that this seat is positioned to be higher up. It is easy to adjust in the vehicle. I have an suv so I was able to easily use the extra strap for security. I also really like the option to move the base buckle. Since we live in Michigan she wears everything from light to heavy clothes. It is very very easy to move the middle section so she can be wearing legggings and not have the seat belt to snug on her. Also, there are pads on the harness which prevent the straps for digging into her. Great puchase! I would very highly recommend this item.
...

Veradae says "Britax is a luxury car seat" about Britax Decathlon

Buying a Britax car seat seemed like an extreme luxury at the time. The seat costs $200+ but was the one that had the nicest cushion cover and seemed to have the most versatility to grow as my son grew.

I don't regret the decision to spend that money for one minute. The car seat was not only functioned in the manner intended, it provided a comfortable and supportive seat for my son.

The cushions supported my son's head when he fell asleep and kept him from slumping over in an ackward way. The seat was soft and I never heard any complaints about the seat pinching him or his legs falling asleep.

The seat was easy to install in the car, especially if your car has the car seat hook latching system.

The cover comes off and washes nicely in the washing machine. The cushions can be washed as well. All can be put in the dryer, although I always let them dry in the sun just in case.

I highly recommend buying the Britax Marathon car seat.
...

I am really impressed with the Britax Decathlon Car seats. I have four boys under the age of five and therefore, I own 3 of these seats. My oldest boy is in a booster seat and my infant is still in a rear facing seat/base combo but will move into the third Decathlon very soon. I have also owned the Britax Marathon seats and was equally impressed. The Britax brand all around seems to consistently rank very well in the safety seat ratings that I have researched and as a result, I have always felt comfortable making them my choice each time I buy a new seat. The price is a little high, but I see it well worth it considering that it keeps my boys safe.

My 2 year old and my four year old use the Decathlons and are able to be safe and comfortable at the same time. I joke that they are the "lazyboy" recliner of car seats. On long trips, both boys can easily fall asleep and I don't have to worry about their necks falling over and hurting when they wake up. They are able to...
...

tungfa says "Britax Decathalon... This has lasted us a long time!" about Britax Decathlon

The Britax Decathalon car seat is very durable and extremely high quality as are all Britax products. We used it as a second car seat for our first daughter and now our second daughter uses one.

It didn't work well in the very early days and we ended up getting a click-in rear facing seat for each girl until they were big enough to turn around and face foward.

The seat is definitely extremely comfortable and the 5 point harness system is the safest type on the market. Our only trouble with the harness is that it is extremely difficult to loosen and tighten the straps using the button and pulling on the straps. Also the straps twist very easily and can be very difficult to untangle.

For the heavy price tag, you could probably go for a different model of Britax or different brand. I wouldn't buy this one again.

As, I said, this seat is extremely strurdy and durable and has lasted two kids, but shop around!

We compared a lot of car seats for our daughter. We looked at britax, graco and several other car seats. Some were smaller and lighter, which made it easier to get it in and out of the car. Some were bigger, bulkier and heavy. The prices varied widely. A few were under $100.00 some were over $300.00. After doing a lot of research and compaision shopping, we chose the Britax Decathlon carseat. The Britax Decathlon carseat did cost more than most car seats and was bigger than most carseats. But in this case we thought that in this bigger and more expensive was the way to go. We used the seat for over two years and never had any trouble with it. we were very happy with it. Our daughter liked it, thought it was comfortable and was able to sleep in it. Our daughter did eventually out grow it, she is now too tall for it. We were able to sell it to a friend who is now using it for his son. We would recommend thiscar seat.
...

Although I am a budget concious person, no product can be too expensive when it comes to the safety of my little one! The Britax brand is a European brand that undergoes more safety criteria requirements when compared to other US brands (Europe has more safety requirements than the United States!?!). We recently took a road trip (12 hours on the open highway!) and were thrilled with this carseat. We were able to recline this carseat and let our little girl sleep for most of the trip. This carseat sits the child up a little higher and we constantly laugh at her as she oooohs and awwws at all the neat things outside. We feel extremely secure in putting our child in a Britax Carseat and wouldn't suggest any other brand. Car accidents are one of the major causes of infant mortality, why would you choose anything other than the best. Don't be fooled by cheap styrofoam or other shoddy products. Choose the best, choose Britax!
...

When I first saw the price tag on the Britax Decathlon I alomost fell over. After doing a lot of research I soon learn the you can't put I price on that kind of safety. I'm a parent of four, so I have try lots of car seats. This one was the easy to install. It fit great in both mine and my husbands car. I wish I would have bought this car seat four kids ago. The strapes are the first ones I have ever use that don't twist up. The seat has more patting then I have see on other carseats. It has the high reface weight limit,in fact we were able to level our son refacing until he was almost three. I like this model better than the other Britax becease of the the adjustable crotch strap positioning that is only offered on the Decathlon. Also the Boulevard as the extra side impact poctection and these blocked my older child view and made him scream on long trips. I was also the only car seat that has the right incert that I felt comfortable to put a small infant in it.
...

We love the Britax Decathlon. We have one for each of our two children. Our kids are big and needed rear facing car seats at 6 months of age (they couldn't use the infant carrier anymore). This seat is has lots of extra pillows to support the younger ones, and they are removable as the child gets older. One advantage to other Britax car seats is that the crotch buckle has three positions. The only disadvantage I have found so far is that the cover is not machine washable, although milk left in the seat for a week in July at the airport came out with a few treatments of vinegar.
...
