BabyEloy says "breasfeeding better for the baby" about Breastfeeding Opinion

When my son was born I was very nervous when I decided to beastfeed. At first I was very uncomfortable. But then my mother instincts took over and I felt better. Now I relize that my son is far more advanced in learning new things everyday. Doctors tell me the reason for his advancement was because he was breast fed which is more healthier than formula. I guess the brain developes a lot faster. The down side to breastfeeding is the leaking, the tenderness and the dryness of thhe breasts. But in the end It was all worth it and I would do It again in a heart beat. I plan on having 3 more children and Breastfeeding will be my desision again. Did I mention its a lot cheaper. In my home town, a can of formula can cost up to 25 dollars each. Thats to rich for my blood. Why does baby food cost so much more than regular foods? Is it because of all the added vitamins? I do not know maybe someone could let me in on that secret. If your aving doubts about breastfeeding I say just try it out, you...
...

Decalifornie says "Best option for mom and baby" about Breastfeeding Opinion

Well before I address my biggest issue with breastfeeding, I will say that The experts are right it is the best thing you could give not only to the baby but to yourself. I exclusively breastfed the first five months and mixted it with formula until ten months and thes stated the weaning process which lasted like a month or so. One feeding less every week. Which went pretty much unnoticed to the end. So the first weeks are just hard, I won't say a nightmare because it would be harsh but believe me for me it was very hard... sore nipples and when baby doesn't latch on well oh boy! But My husband was a good helper and my cheerleader and sometimes I just wanted to smack him with his words but we got trough it lol. Early weeks are also hard because you have to deal those mixed feelings (for those who had them) I mean when you feel like a big cow milking and nothing else and just want to give up... (That the hormanes raging) You also get through it with time and patience and a good support...
...

We've grown complacent in our society, accepting second best as the standard. Why? Because formula companies and undereducated Dr's tell us it's okay to do so? I'm a mom of 4 and have breastfed my kids. I'm not perfect and a bit on the lazy side, as I'm sure others will attest too, but I wanted several things for my kids. One thing was the best health that money 'couldn't' buy...only I could give them. How did I fair? Well, three of my children are now healthy adults with very few illness over their lives. The fourth is still a teen and is rarely sick. I often have people ask me (as an experienced mom) how I handled things like earaches or such and I have to tell them I never had to deal with any of them....and I was being honest. We never had earaches or serious colds or anything of the sort and this carried on to their years after nursing too. What a bonus! No late night phone calls to the DR or rush visits with a sick baby. No worries over medicines or bills. ...
...

Many of the reviews have already gone over all the pro's and the con's. Just wanted to add that I have breastfed all 4 of my babies (some longer than others) and I wouldn't have it any other way. I can't imagine not having had the chance to do it. I am 6 months into bf'ing my last child and even though he already has 2 teeth I hope to make is close to the 12 month mark. My breasts are alittle beat up and show the signs of wear and tear but I am happy that I was blessed enough to be able to feed my children this way since I know it does not work out for everyone who wants to.
...

My story in breastfeeding: My son was born at 32 weeks, weighing in at 4 pounds. Nearly a month in the NICU was tough on all of us, and I have a strong memory of being told by a lactation specialist when my son and I were having trouble nursing that if I didn't pump for him and he didn't latch on soon, my son would die.

I was hearbroken and eventually was SO stressed out from the multple trips to the NICU and that lactation specialist that I gave up on pumping and nursing altogether. I had this glamorous mothering idea of breastfeeding, and I was devasted. When my son had colic and another mother told me I should have breastfed, I was devasted.

With my daughter, I was able to breastfeed, and I wouldn't give that up for the world. It was the best 3 months of my life.

Obviously I've been down both paths. I've seen the good and bad sides of breastfeeding and very obsessive mothers and lactation specialists.

The Pros:

1) An amazing bond - even at 2 AM, it feels amazing
2) Always available -...
...

shadaram says "No regrets!" about Breastfeeding Opinion

When I got pregnant, I knew that I wanted to try and nurse my baby because of the health benefits. I worked in a maternity store for several years and had heard the ups and downs from many new moms. While pregnant, I read as much material I could so that I could be prepared. Luckily my daughter latched on perfectly and we didn't have any problems, and I am thankful for that. My only problem was keeping her awake long enough to nurse at first, although that changed rather quickly, lol. Even after developing mastitis, I am still a firm believer in breastfeeding. I am still nursing, but working on weaning her, and that is proving to be a huge challenge.

Nursing is such a wonderful experience for mommy and baby, and of course, everyone knows, a very healthy thing. I didn't plan on going back to work, so we were a little under financially, so this was a natural choice for that very reason, if not for anything else. The money saved was tremendous. There are so many products on the market dedicated......

I won't go into the already fabulous reasons to breastfeed ( bonding, baby's nutrition, etc. ) that have been mentioned in previous reviews. I'll try to add some that haven't already been mentioned.. like..... it makes you SKINNY. I AM THINNER NOW THAN BEFORE I GOT PREGNANT. No gym..just exclusively breastfeeding for the first nine months!!!!

If you are a busy mom (and who isn't?)...who has time to prepare bottles and wash them all and how long can you prepare them in advance, anyway?...why stress???? Breastfeeding is food on the fly. Wether you are going out on an outing or to another continent it's one less thing to have to pack or worry about.

I feel for everyone who has had their nipples destroyed. I have been there and now it's just a funny story I'll tell my little cannibal. LOL

Hang in there..get someone who knows to show you how to do it right.......Breastfeeding....it's SOOOOOO worth it.

...

Every mom wants the best for her child, why wouldn't you breastfeed. Although breastfeeding is hard and tiresome it is the most natural healty way to nurture your newborn baby. The nutrients in breast milk cannot be found else where. Breastfeeding is also good for you too. Your uterius goes through a tough change during pregnancy and has to go back to its original state. Breastfeeding helps this process. Breastfeeding is hard but with help it can be a delightful expirence for you and your new born to have. Your baby needs your warmth and touch and with breastfeeding you can provide that safe and secure feeling to your scared little baby at every meal. Breast feeding is not for everyone but I believe that every mom should try, even if it is only one day, one time in the hospital at birth you baby got nutrients that you provided naturally. There is a particual nutrient that babies get first when you start to breast feed that is vital to the growth of your childs brain. I hope that every mother...
...

pef1996 says "If you can do it, then do it. Don't be afraid!" about Breastfeeding Opinion

As a mother of four, I realize the importance of providing the best possible food for your child. Even though people disapporved, I opted to breastfeed each of my children. I will admit, I only went for six months with my first and ten with my second, but my third child went for sixteen months and I'm still nursing my twelve month old.

The deal is you don't have to be afraid to breastfeed. I know some people get embarrassed, but there's nothing to be afraid of. It's a natural process that God created for babies to be fed by. If you are embarrassed, there's nothing wrong with going to another room to nurse. I have done that plenty of times. But some manufactuers have come out with nursing tops that conceal what you are doing.

There are many benefits of nursing. Babies tend to get sick less, there is no worry about having to keep formula a certain temperature or the type of formula your child needs. Babies aren't allergic to breastmilk since it's meant just for them.

I think of it as a great......

psjl says "a great option" about Breastfeeding Opinion

It's your own personal choice, but I would recommend it. It does not hurt if you do it properly, but that's not to say it comes to you naturally. You have to be taught/shown how to do it, but once you get past the first couple of weeks' learning curve, it's so easy and convenient. You don't have to get up in the middle of the night to make a bottle. You can stay half-asleep, and so can baby, which makes it much easier to get him/her back to sleep. And it's such a special bonding time for mom and baby that just can't be explained - knowing that you are providing the thing baby needs most. Don't think you can't do it if you have a c-section either, I had two and made it just fine both times....
