I got our Boxer for my husband's birthday. We had a 3 month old baby at the time and had finally moved to a house where a dog was possible and my husband wanted one. I had previously owned a Boxer and knew they were excellent dogs for a family. We brought our Boxer puppy, Guinness home at 8 weeks old. He grew quickly the first year and became a full grown "coiled spring" Boxer by one year old. He weighs 65lbs and is about 25 inches from ground to his belly. He is now 4 years old and has calmed considerably in the past year, which could be he has a bloodhound for a playmate now, but still gets very excited when a family member comes home. He thinks all visitors have come to see him. He chases cats and rabbits and can jump an average chain link fence without much effort, he can also climb chain link fences. He is protective of our home and our family. He is not aggressive, but sounds like it when he plays. He has never bitten anyone. He loves bones/raw hides. He is a reverse brindle. We...
...

My boxer, Rocko is not only our pet, but our child. He is 2 1/2 years old. Boxers do not calm down like most breeds after 2 years old. They often don't settle until about 4 years of age. We have seen some improvements within the last couple of months. When we first obtained Rocko, we kept him in a kennel during our time out of the house. He potty trained fairly quick. When he was completely potty trained we left him in a bedroom while we were gone and just recently he is allowed all over the house. I still have to make sure there are no temptations, such as my shoes sitting around. He is mostly white with some brown and is very prone to allergies. Our yard is about 2.5 acres and if he gets into weeds you can believe we are going to the vet. He actually takes 2 allergy pills everyday and 2 pills for an overactive thyroid, believe it or not, my 97lb boxer was once underweight. He is a pure bread, his mom and dad were larger. He is often skittish. He tipped his stainless...
...

poeticblueyes says "Petey - the ADHD Boxer!" about Boxer Breed

Our Boxer will be 2 years old in March '09. Petey is a big, healthy 70 pound bundle of energy. My husband jokes and says, 'Petey is as dumb as a box of rocks!' Sadly that is true. He loves to eat, run, play and is so hard headed. He is still such a puppy. I would say Boxers are very loving but a lot of commitment goes in their care. You need to be ready to wrestle and play rough once you consider getting one. Ours started out as a house puppy but quickly became a outside pet. He has a huge pen to run and jump in as well as being let out to run our land. Boxers will chew up anything they can fit in their mouth. They have a huge appetite also. They are beautiful, strong dogs. I consider them to be more a 'mans' dog due to the fact they are so hard to handle....

The Boxer is one of the best family dogs around. Very good with kids and protective, but not aggressive. Don't get one unless you have the time to commit to it. They need attention and need training. They are NOT outside dogs either....

I am a boxer lover and I would not own any other breed. I have owned boxers for over twenty years. I am happy to say that I have had the priviledge to breed a fantastic litter in which turned out a very intelligent male that has become a fantastic police drug dog and cadaver dog. Not only am i proud of my brood, but they are the best dogs for children. I owned my first for ten years before he died from a sudden seizure. He was playful, never offered to bite, but was very protective and played with and licked children to death! LOL I later got his mate and she is still with me at the age of twelve. She is sweet and layed back and loves my two daughters which are under the age of three. These two gave me a litter of six more in which all belong to family members including one I kept for our own family. They are all a combination of their parents. I also have had the joy of adopting a beautiful female from a local animal shelter that was just dropped out there. She too......

Hello we had a boxer since she was a puppy till she was about 11 years old. I believe cancer got her. But she was great, she was a puppy when we brought her home and my daughter was about one boy did they get along, found them both in the crate playing and once found the baby pacifier in the dogs mouth the right way like she was sucking on it.

She had a thing about chasing cars so we needed a high gate she could not get over.

She just loved people would jump on them and almost knock them over. Boxers are just so friendly and lovable and hyper, she was also protectfull of her family and she would kiss you to wake you up in the morning. she had a thing for my friends hair that she usre to put in a bun.

Once she got out of her crate and got on my bed with lipstick all the white on her face and paws where pink and so was my bedspread. she had found a way to open the crate, we had to buy a new one that was different.

we once bought baby chicks for my daughter not think they would actually make...
...

hilleriffic says "The Superior dog" about Boxer Breed

I grew up raising dogs and never thought that one dog breed could posses so many great traits! Boxers are loyal, funny, protective, and very obedient. They are always in need of attention though and do best with someone who can give it. They are great to have in a family with small children. They would absolutely put their life on the line to protect the baby of he house. On the down side of the boxer breed is just how much attention they need. It is just like having a 4 year old. Boxers do best if they have a routine as well. Bump them from their regular schedule and they will even become sad and depressed....

As a Boxer owner, or as I sometimes refer to myself as......... "duke's human friend", I sit back and think of a time around the house BEFORE BOXERS when it was quiet and not having toys laid all over the floor, and most disgusting........not having slobber draped down the window as if he's trying to do some sort of art work on the way to the store. We recently bought a convertible, I never knew you could make a slobbering 85 pound animal so happy. Boxers are a dog that once you have one......... you'll never stray from that breed....

boxers are loud, fun, energetic balls of fun! they are extremely hyper, have a good personality, and think they are lap dogs, too. my boxer female is a loving, outgoing, spunky dog. boxers tend to test their owners, and they need patience and an understanding owner. training a boxer may take awhile, but in the end, it is worth it. they do tend to shed also, and are extremely hyper. they also have certain health issues, such as bloat, dandruff, a shortened nose, etc. overall, these are one of the best dogs to have and they will quickly win your heart!!...

I have 2 boxers and they are the best. Not the most intelligent dogs ever, but very trainable. Very lovable dogs that will protect if needed, especially of children. They do have a downfall of seperation anxiety so if you are away from home alot this is not the pet for you. They are very energetic and need lots of exercise, but don't tolerate extreme heat well. Mine stay inside and were very easy to housetrain and crate train. When they smile and their teeth stick thru their lip it will melt your heart. They also don't tend to shed very much at all. I think they are the greatest ever. They have a personality all of their own almost like they understand everything you say to them or are just feeling at the time. ...

We've had Gracie since she was a puppy. She's now 5. She taught me to play fetch. She knows several words: ball, outside, bedtime, pizza, toy, "where's", food, hungry, water, eat, in. If I ask "Where's Alex?" she'll go into his bedroom and sniff him good and come back. If I ask "Where's daddy?" she'll jump up on the couch, look out to see if his truck is in the driveway, or go into the bedroom. At bedtime she jumps up on the bed as we're settling in, for her belly rub and smooches. Then it's "Goodnight Gracie, time for bed" and she's off to settle down herself. She's very demanding of our attention, always getting what she wants, even if she has to sit in front of us and stare us down to get it. She's a big sweet ol' goofball and we can't imagine our home without her....

My uncle has one named Jocko and he is an amazing dog. He is great with the three kids; 16,15,12. He has a lot of energy, which could be a good thing depending on the time of day. Haha. But, he is a great dog and only barks when he has to. He is protective but not too protective. As long as you don't treat them wrong, as any other dog, they will treat you good. My aunt on the other hand has an albino boxer, which i do not suggest. They're great dogs and everything, but they are too much trouble medically. So if you decide to own an albino boxer, be prepared because you might have to take it to the doctor a lot. Many albino boxers have medical problems. Their bones are very weak and some of them are kind of slow....
