smccarth says "Easy to use, sleek and compact - a great set of dumbbells!" about Bowflex Selecttech Dumbbells

When I first saw these dumbbells in the store I thought "wow, what a cool concept" - all of the weights I need in one set. There's no need to buy a rack to hold different sets of dumbbells (which only makes sense if you're in a health club). Granted, I'm a "girl", so I don't need 50lb+ dumbbells, but even if you need smaller weights for a variety of different small-muscle exercises, this is a great set.

- Goes up to 55 lbs. and starts out as little as 5 lbs.
- Easy "dial in" features means you always select the right weight
- Extra stand is a great way to keep the set at an accessible height
- Slick design

My husband and I both use this set, so it gets a lot of use. The rubber around the weights means there's not a lot of "clicking" noises when you're using them, and they're easy on the floor.

This is a great weight set - especially if you have a limited amount of space. Having all of your weights up to 50 lbs in one set certainly leaves you a lot of extra room for other pieces of exercise...
...

Titan369 says "Boflex Selectech Dumbells are crap" about Bowflex Selecttech Dumbbells

I have a very expensive set of selectech 1090 dumbells that are useless. I have had them for a couple of months and due to a flawed design which boflex refuses to aknowledge they are unable to be used. The problem is the release mechanisim in the cradle breaks completely off after minimal use so you can not turn the knobs anymore. I contacted Bofles this morning and they would do nothing except for offer to sell me new cradles. Get some good old fashion iron and save yourself some grief!!!!!...

I like the selecttech dumbbells because they are like having an entire set in one. they are strong sturdy and allows you hands to have the same grip consistency at all times. They are also very economical. Furthermore because it is made by bowlflex, rest assured you will get many years of great use....

My husband wanted these dumbbells for Christmas last year. He brought them up on the internet and at first I thought he was crazy. The price was a good bit. We have 3 children to buy for Christmas. He said we could finance them and then when we got our taxes we would just pay it off. I, of course, agreed to this. So he ordered them. He wanted to start working out and getting in shape. Our work will reimburse us $250 so that's good and he don't really have time in our busy lives to go to the gym. Now that he has them they are great he loves them. It is 2 dumbbells and each one can go up to 90 pounds. All you have to do is turn a dial. No putting on weights or taking off. That's great. He even got our 15 year old son joining in. Our 10 year old wants to, but he just plays around. It's a good way for them 3 to spend time together....

Jo says "Select the Bowflex Dumbbells. Frivolous? Maybe; Convenient? YES" about Bowflex Selecttech Dumbbells

SelectTech Dumbbells sell at the hefty price of $400. Since dumbbells sell for about $1.00 per pound I could have bought 52.5 pounds of dumbbells for about $110.00

I think convenience factor is worth the money though many may see them as a frivolous purchase.

We got two dumbbells that allow us to go from 5 pounds to 52.5 pounds. If you are curling or pressing considerably more weight than that these will not be for you.

The dumbbells sit on a base. In order to get the weight I want to lift I turn a dial let’s say to 20 pounds for bicep curls. When I lift up the dumbbell I get 25 pounds of weights. Essentially the rest of the weight gets left behind

The dial is easy to turn. If you are lifting any weight at all you will have the strength to turn the dial. The mechanism locks into place. I can feel the knob rest in a notch and I hear a noise so I know it’s locked.

The dumbbells are covered with plastic so they are quiet when put down. Up to 25 pounds I can pick a weight from 5 to 25 pounds...
...
