bostontmommy says "I will only ever own the boston terrier breed." about Boston Terrier Dogs

We have a boston terrier who is eight years old. We have had her since she was a puppy. My husband found a good breeder and purchased her. From day one she has been the perfect dog for our family. We got her and had her for five years before we had our first child. She made the transition to having small children into the house so well. She is very even tempered and is not a yappy dog. Some think bostons are all yappy and that is not true. She had more energy when she was a puppy, but has mellowed as she has gotten older. She is so good with our two very young children.

Our boston is very intelligent and was easy to potty train. I can count on one hand the number of accidents she had while going through potty training and most were our fault for not taking her soon enough.

We have found our boston to be very willing to train and responded very well to obedience training and we were even able to teach her tricks. She can beg, bow, say her prayers, etc.

When the day comes...
...

I have had a Boston Terrier for over a year, and she has been the best companion ever! She plays with my 5 year old and protects him and is very patient with him. She is very smart (only took 3 weeks to potty train at 9 weeks old!) loves to learn tricks, loves walks, only barks when she is outdoors and a dog is nearby, yet she is very nice and never bites. We will own Boston Terriers for the rest of our lives!
...

You have not owned a dog until you have been owned by a Boston Terrier! We have a eight year old female BT who ownes us wholeheartedly. She came to me when she was six months old. She was timid and scared and very depressed. Within a week, you could just see her little personality blossom! She is very much the center of attention at our house and has been since the week after we got her home.

It has been my experience with BT's that they are loyal, smart and affectionate little dogs. Bubbles has the personality of a queen, royal and loyal! She is very attached to me and our home. She will let you know whether or not she likes other places or people by her manerisms. She has very distinct likes and dislikes and she voices her opinion without a problem!

Recently we took in a very young male BT to find him a forever home. Bubbles snorted at him and went to lay in her bed. To us that meant "he can stay, but not for long!". Since then she has become friends with him on her terms. Spikey is rambunctious...
...

I own two Boston Terriers currently. Their names are Chester and Abigail. They are easy to train and love to please me. Bostons are known for their love of being with their owners. They love to play and are very inquisitive! Walks are great fun for them, but not when it is very hot. Because of their short snout when they weather is too warm and humid they have a problem breathing so keep them cool with a small kiddie pool in the yard and they will be fine. Their short fur makes them easy to clean and they shed very little. Bostons usually weight between 12 and 20 pounds. If properly crate trained they due well in appartments. Always purchase these dogs from a reputable breeder so you will be sure to get an AKC approved dog....

I have a boston terrier and a pug...I have worked with boston terrier rescue and had many in my temporary care. If you are looking for a happy, fun, busy dog, this is the breed for you. There are some things to consider though. Bostons are prone to a LOT of health problems and getting one from a breeder that does not do proper genetic testing is a setup for a huge amount of medical issues and lots of money. My boston was not from a good breeder, and I have spent well over $6000 in 4 years on her. They cannot be left outside, and they want to be with you always. Bostons are smart dogs (for the most part) and learn quickly, but they also choose when they want to respond. My boston usually wants to please, but she is smart enough to be hard headed at times too...They love everything and everyone, if they are socialized as a puppy and have not been exposed to a reason to become nervous or aggressive. I would do lots of research before getting a boston, but they are a wonderful breed to own......

Boston Terriers are a great choice, but I find mine to be very hyper. She is very playful and loves to play ball. She just gets very excited when people come in the house, and has to jump and kiss everyone. They are very good natured and very lovable. I would get another Boston Terrier again....

When choosing a dog it's very important to get a breed that fits your lifestyle. That cute little puppy will grow up fast and have traits related to his or her breed that cannot be changed. That's why I did research before getting a dog and decided that the Boston Terrier was a great choice for me.

My Boston Terrier ''Beethoven'' is playful, affectionate, and easy to care for. Known for their docile temperament, Boston Terriers want to be everyone's best friend and are sometimes called ''The American Gentleman''. I'm not sure if it's gentlemanly for a dog to lick people, but my dog loves to show his friendliness by giving people a quick kiss on ears or chin!

The Boston Terrier is easily recognized by its markings. They are black and white or sometimes brindle and white, with erect ears, big, expressive eyes, short nose, and often like to ''smile'''. Their short hair does not shed much and is easy to care for - no clipping or special grooming required. My dog Beethoven weighs 25 pounds...
...

Boston Terrier's are the greatest dogs. They are good with children. They love to sit on your lap, go for rides in the car, play with toys, and sleep with you, too. They also play well with other bostons. I would consider them a low-maintenance dog. We have always had two. You get one and you want more....

Besides all the great qualities that people have shown here , i would also add that Bostons are also very smart and obedient if you train them right. My dog knows to go inside his crate, jump on the bed, go to his pillow or his chair, go to the place where the food is.. when told to...and a bunch of other tricks. Whenever i go play tennis with my husband, we tell him "chair" and he goes straight to the umpire chair and sits there the entire time we pratice (sometimes 2 h) without bothering us at all. He will come to us whenever we have a water break and then he goes right back once we start practicing again. This is amazing, since Bostons are very energetic dogs. This shows just how ovedient they are if they are trained. They are absolutely great dogs. I have a 1 year old Boston Terrier and plan on getting another one soon.
...
