vivasuzi says "This is more of a talker than I expected, but still good" about Body of Lies

I had been wanting to see Body of Lies for awhile, so when it came on HBO my husband and I made sure to DVR it so we could watch it this weekend. While Body of Lies is a good movie with a good story, it wasn't quite what I expected. Comparing it to movies like The Departed, this film had way less action than other Leo DiCaprio films.

What's it about: Leo DiCaprio plays a US Citizen who lives and works for the CIA. He works undercover in the Middle East with his ultimate goal being to track down a master terrorist who is killing innocent people throughout Europe with random attacks. It's really hard to explain much more than that, you get the gist!

The Actors: Leo is great, as always. He seems to do well in this CIA type of roll, just like he did in The Departed. He was the only one in the movie that the audience could trust. Russell Crowe played Leo's boss, more or less. He was giving instructions from the safety of his hometown in the US. Although he was on the side...
...

bkovacs says "'Body of Lies' is confusing and ultimately boring" about Body of Lies

Body of Lies is a spy thriller starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe. Watching it, I couldn't help but compare it to another "Lies" movie about Islamic terrorists, True Lies. In every important way, True Lies is a far superior film to Body of Lies. Of the two, True Lies is much more entertaining, and that's the most important thing when watching a movie.

In Body of Lies, Roger Ferris (Leonardo DiCaprio) is a Middle Eastern specialist for the CIA, reporting to older and more experienced Ed Hoffman (Russell Crowe). They are on the hunt for a brutal terrorist named Al-Saleem, who they learn has a safe house in Amman, Jordan. While surveilling the safe house, Ferris gets bitten by a couple of dogs and receives treatment from a pretty Iranian nurse living in Amman. The nurse, Aisha (Golshifteh Farahani), catches Ferris' eye and he is soon asking her to dinner. If Ferris had watched True Lies, he'd know that it's not a good idea to kindle a romance while up to his ears in intrigue.
......

LibbyMcMillan says "Horrifically violent, but well acted & dramatic: Body of Lies" about Body of Lies

Body of Lies will have you covering your eyes
Take a tough friend if you have trouble with violence; you may need to leave the theater during some of this film's torture scenes. But if you can stomach them, or get your buddy to tell you what happened, this is a great film. The standard line that DiCaprio and his sidekick say to each other as they head toward life-threatening danger says it all (No spoilers here!)

Director Ridley Scott keeps the tension high
The action follows a tired but pretty effective CIA operative (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his associate, cynical pragmatic and desk-jockey Russell Crowe, who calls the shots from afar, as they team up to end a Muslim terrorist cell. Their very different styles create plenty of tension with chosen ally, the leader of Jordanian intelligence. You'll get a good look at the Middle East: environs from middle-of-nowhere nomadic spots, border checkpoints, dense urban areas, Jordan. Two cilvians are also drawn into the plot, which...
...
