I've trusted the Black & Decker brand name for many years. And this waffle maker is proving no exception to that rule. I've used this small kitchen appliance for years (I can't even remember how long ago I bought it) and received reliable service from it. Years of reliable use makes this a good value in my eyes. The heating is still uniform, without any overly-hot or cold spots. Waffles come out evenly done. But like most waffle cookers, you have to keep a close eye to catch them when they're perfectly done.

It's not the prettiest waffle maker on the market; just a plain chrome finish. But I buy things for their function and value more than their looks. The size is generous enough that you can make a family-sized batch of waffles in a short time. The cooking plates will reverse (not too difficult to snap out and reinsert) to become flat griddles, so you can cook pancakes or make grilled cheese sandwiches just as easily. This is not nonstick. I have ruined many waffles by forgetting to spray it. This does have flat griddles that you can change to that work great for pancakes. I have had less expensive wafflemakers that made much better waffles than this one does. The griddles are difficult to change out. I don't know if I'm not using the heat control correctly, but when put on the waffle setting the waffles come out dry and too well done. I suppose it is alright for a big family, but for just 2 people it is a bit large. Difficult to store.

I've had this waffle maker for over 5 years and it is extremely handy. Besides waffles, it makes great grilled cheese and patty melt sandwiches. I haven't used it much as a griddle, but I suppose it works well for that.

Cleans easily enough in sink, I don't think it should go in the dishwasher.
