JustKate says "The Bissell Steam Mop is just ok." about Bissell Steam Mop

I purchased the Bissell Steam Mop because I'm wary of all the chemicals that are in household cleaners. Using the power of steam to get things cleaned is what attracted me to this product. It generally works well, but it does put out a lot of water when it claims not to. It also says it's safe for hardwood floors when in reality you should never steam mop hard wood floors! I didn't find this out until I did a little research on the subject. Apparently water seeps into the cracks of the wood and can warp it and cause other damage. I read somewhere that your hardwood floor warranty's can be voided if you use a steam mop to clean it. With the amount of water that this one puts out I definitely wouldn't use it on hardwood. It works well on linoleum but cant get to the crevices on tile floors. It is lightweight and easy to use. The water tank is easy to fill up and to re-attach. It does heat up quickly but unfortunately puts out too much water for me.
...

Oh my gosh! Why have I waited to buy this?? I have 2 kids under the age of 2 so one of my most needed (and dreaded) chores was mopping. We have hardwood as well as tile and with crawling babies I needed to be confident that my floors were clean. After going through numerous traditional mops as well as one well known mop with pads you change out and throw away after each use, i was just frustrated. So, off to Home Depot I go in search of the Bissell Steam mop. Found it, brought it home and fell in love!! There are no chemicals used at all, and the floor is cleaned through steam. I was hesitant at first for no cleaners, but after using the mop one time, that was a distant thought. My tile has never felt better to my bare feet. it was so easy to use and now I mop every other day! (Never thought I would be saying that!!). The only disadvantages is that the resivor for water is a bit small, so I have to refill it halfway through my cleaning. Small deal though for such a great...
...

After my first child started eating solid foods, I knew it was time to get a steam mop because getting out the traditional mop buck and mop wasn't practical. After using the Bissell Steam Mop for the first time, I had no idea why I waited so long! I cleaned stick messy, dirty dog paw prints, and every day dirt quickly and effectively without all the harsh chemicals. Of course, my floor still needs an occassional hands-and-knees scrubbing, but that's true with any type of mop.

Also, I occassionally put a couple drops of peppermint oil in the water tank when I fill it.
...

I had been using my sponge mop and recently visited my cousin in Florida. She was using the Bissell Steam Mop and I couldn't believe how well it cleaned and how easy it was to use! No cleaners, just distilled water, (recommended for Filter life) but not necessary. It plugs in, heats up and your ready to go! It swivels, and gets into tight places with ease. No streaking either! My kitchen floor felt like it did the day they installed it! And one tank of water did my kitchen, utility room and main bathroom, with some to spare! If I had one con regarding the Bissell Steam Mop, it would be the cord. I think they could have had a longer cord to reach further without having to unplug. But that is minor, given the job that it does! Now when its time to scrub my floors, I actually don't dread it anymore! I tell everyone about my steam mop, as I am the type of person that if I like something, everyone will know about it! Thank you
...

I purchased the Bissell 1867-7 Steam Mop 2 weeks ago for my hardwood and marble floors. I must say I have tried several different options from regular sponge mops to Swiffer to the Floormate. The Bissell Steam Mop is by far the best product when it comes to cleaning my floors. It was very easy to assemble. It is lightweight, heats up almost immediately when plugged in, easy to use and really gets the floors clean. I love the fact that it uses no expensive cleaners. Only tap water. No harmful chemicals ! Super safe for my kids, my pets and the environment. (I do use my refridgerators filtered water to extend the life of the Bissells filter). I have very few negatives to say about this product. The first is that I wish the cord was longer. However this is easily corrected with the use of a regular home extension cord. The other is that if you are cleaning a very large area I would recommend changing the cleaning pad. (very easy to do) As it becomes saturated, the floor...
...

I was skepical about purchasing the Bissell Steam Mop but I am so glad I did! I like that I am not using harsh chemicals and, yet, my floor looks better than before. It does leave the floor wet, as a regular mop would, but I don't mind. The intense heat picks up the ground in dirt - so I "scrub" less. In fact, I was never a big mop fan and usually cleaned my floors on my hands and knees. Be prepared though - it takes a good two or three moppings to get your floors where you want them to be.
...

I loved the Bissell Steam Mop! It got ground- in dirt out of my linoleum floor with ease and made it very sanitary. I liked that I did not have to put any chemical products on the floor as well. Just distilled water and it's clean! If I had to say one thing that I thought needed improvement it would be that it was heavy and kind of hard to turn. Over all, I really enjoyed using the steam mob! I have recommended it to all my friends!!
...

So in a very unusual move for me, I saw this product on a home shopping channel (serioulsy, i was just channel surfing.) ON a whim, I decided to get it. Quite frankly the best purchase I have ever made. WIth a 1.5 year old and another on the way- i am no stranger to messes, but have become a stranger to having spare time on my hands! With the health benefits of germ killing steam and the fact that it takes only water and not harsh chemicals, that is very important to me with little ones near the floor! And time wise- its wonderful! I can get my good-sized kitchen floor done in 2.5 minutes. No lie. And its dry in no time! Now I don't have true hardwood floors in my home, but I do have everything else, ceramic, laminate and linoleum. Its great on these surfaces, and I see that I can buy a carpet refreshing attachment as an accessory- something I will be purchasing very soon. And I also see where you can buy the Bissell approved aromatherapy additive so that you get a nice...
...

swamplily says "High expectations, mediocre performance." about Bissell Steam Mop

The Bissell Steam Mop is a mixed bag as far as a review. Some good performance, but also some disappointment. I am being generous to give it a three, but feel a two is maybe too low. I purchased it specifically for my vinyl flooring, which I work to keep clean, but it IS work. I have no children and no pets. The Bissell looked like a good choice to make this easier. I always sweep floors clean, then mop. The Bissell Steam Mop did an EXCELLENT job loosening all dirt or spots on the floors. However, the mop head quickly gets dirty, then you are pushing the dirty mop head around and leaving dingy water on the floor. This is not easily apparent, but when I wiped the damp floors with a clean white towel, it easily showed that the mop leaves an unclean film on the floor surface. Not just barely, but quite significant. I change the pad for each room, but still can wipe up the floor with a cloth and it show the floor is not TRULY clean. Has anyone else noticed this? I am not really a...
...

I bought this mop because it got the best reviews. My kitchen has really old linoleum and I couldn't get a good shine on it using regular mops. When I bought the Bissell Steam Mop I used it and it took all the shine off the floor. I thought it was going to be another wasted gadget. The next day I tried it again. It still left the floor very dull but when I put the wax on the floor it looked great. The Bissell Steam Mop took all the old dirty gunk off the floor and left it ready for the wax. Since I do have an exceptionally old linoleum I don't think I'll be using the steam mop every day but it would be really good on floors that have a permanent shine to them. I also am leary about using it on the floor squares that were just put down in my bathroom. They have glue on the back and I think the steam would really work against this type of flooring. You do need to have more than 2 pads because they get too wet very fast....
