KorinoTsubasa23 says "Absolutely horrible! EXTREMELY inaccurate to the original story!" about Beowulf (2007)

Where should I begin with this horrific movie?

My husband, a good friend of ours, our friend's girlfriend at the time, and I were hanging out one night and decided to go catch a movie. My husband and I are HUGE fans of the original Beowulf story and thought we should give this movie a shot. Plus nothing else we thought we might like was playing that night.

We thought it might be a decent movie compared to some of the other Beowulf movies. How wrong we were about that!

First off, my eyes hurt the entire time I was watching it in 3D. I had a headache at the end of the movie and not just from the horribly done translation to big screen. Angelina Jolie is an ugly woman and I did NOT appreciate seeing her naked! And the fact that she was digitally enhanced was even more disturbing. I don't want to see anyone naked, except my husband, much less THAT woman. It shouldn't have had a PG-13 rating.

Secondly, my husband and I are very critical about seeing a movie that's based off a book or short story....
...

cbay8882 says "The first and best 3D movie I've seen in theaters" about Beowulf (2007)

It was a winter stormy night, with eight inches of snow expected. I got in the car with four friends and drove over fifty miles to see this movie in 3D. It was the best experience ever. This movie was great in 3D and I like how a traditional story can be retold to modern audiences. The soundtrack of this movie was also fantasitic. Even though I did not sit in the front row for the 3D experience I would never recommend it to anyone....

paxlrose says "Unintentionally funny" about Beowulf (2007)

This movie was my unintentionally favorite movie of 2007. The over-the-top antics of Beowulf were just too funny! I wish this movie had arrived 20 years earlier when I had to read Beowulf in a British Lit class.

I gotta admit, as a dude, I went there to see Angelina Jolie...Very hot, indeed! But the unintentional humor of the "superhero" Beowulf was just too much! It was better than a lot of comedies...well, except for Superbad.

The music in the movie was exceptional. I kinda wish moviemakers would use some gothic metal bands like Leaves' Eyes for movies like this. (99.9 percent of you reading this probably have no idea what the band Leaves' Eyes is. Google it!)

Only complaint...Grendel. Granted, Crispin Glover has always been a goof, so I guess the role suited him.

...

This movie is amazing!!! Not only does it have Angelina, it is wonderfully animated. The graphics are so real. There are parts where you and your friends will be arguing if the people are real or computer generated. It does have some VERY gorey parts, but the action is so good I had to keep my eyes open; i have a weak stomach....

This is a very cool movie! Some parts are a bit risque but it's interesting because the characters are half human/half computerized. I loved Angelina Jolie's sexy part in this and you can never go wrong with John Malkovich either! Not sure why Robin Wright Penn's computerized character looks SO unnattractive though. I had to read this story in high school...so it was nice to finally find out exactly what the book was trying to say! ;) Make sure you stick around for the final 20 minutes of the movie...the flying dragon sequences were really mind-blowing and totally made the film!

Make sure you check out the 'making of' part in the Extra's section of the DVD. It shows how they made the film (mostly all with green screen & with the actors having to wear sensors all over their faces & bodies. Also you'll see that the real Beowolf actor (chubby, short, not that cute) looks NOTHING like the beefy, strong, young Beowolf seen on screen!
...

This movie is terrible. It's tacky and a dissapointment. The animation is terrible, and the whole thing is an utter distaster. I would never watch it again. And I deffinately wouldn't recomend it to anyone. I couldn't wait to get out of the theater it was so terrible. Hated the whole thing and Angelina Jolie sucked....

Beowulf the movie is not worth the 1.99 to rent it. The action is predictable, the characters hackneyed, and the special effects(the whole movie,* not enough to make me gasp or jump even once. Even my 15 year old said "I can't believe we're watching the whole thing." ...

I did not realize that the movie would be cgi. I was very disappointed with the story line. I would not recommend anyone watch this movie unless they realize upfront that it is animated. I think that it might actually be a good movie that way. The action is great but the plot is lacking....

I loved this movie. Great computer graphics. I liked how you could tell who the actors were by thier faces. Also liked how the whole movie was made on the computer. Story was very adventerous and exicting. The sences where beautiful and even the blood and gore was a work of art. Like how not just the women was naked but the man was too. And without being sexist and perverted. Just a magical and awesome sight to see. Loved the characters and can see what a imagination it took to put this movie togeather. So get ready for a fabulous ride, great work of art and movie history....

Child says "An epic novel brought to life on the big screen" about Beowulf (2007)

For those of you who claim to like the classic novel Beowulf this movie adaptation was quite interesting. Although it is closer to the book then alot of the older versions it still does not hold completely true to it; However I thought it was quite witty. I have heard alot of complaints about Grendel's mother in high heels. Step Back for a second and think of the high heels as talons. It makes alot more sense. I believe the movies artistic approach to symbolisism just went over peoples head. I liked how the movie drags you back in time and tries to make you feel a part of it. Face it people medieval times were gritty and violent people lived hand to mouth so for all the violence portrayed in this movie there was alot left unseen....

This movie was hilarious especially in 3-D. I saw the movie twice in theaters. Once in 3-D and once normal. The movie was a good parody of the classical Beowulf tale. If you are into a dirty, sexy comedy you will love this movie.
...

I hated this movie! I only went because I drove a school bus full of high school basketball players to see it while they were at an out-of-town basketball tournament and they had some time to kill. I guess the coaches chose the film because "Beauwolf" is required reading in high school and they thought it was the lesser of the evils showing at the time. Too bad "Alvin & the Chipmunks" was not showing yet.

The 3D part of it was ok, but maybe I'm too old to enjoy that any more. I felt like I needed to put on my reading glasses in order to see clearly. I did not enjoy the animated aspect of the movie and I felt like the PG-13 rating should have been an R instead. There was entirely too much sexuality happening. There is no way I would have taken any teen-ager of mine to see this movie!
...

Beowulf must fight and defeat the monster Grendel who is terrorizing towns, and later, Grendel's mother, who begins killing out of revenge after her son killed by beowolf, Grendel mother tricks beowolf into mating, an agreement which grebdel mother wants a son, & beowolf wants fame & power. After many years, beowolf became old, but still able to kills his monster son (results from mating with Grendel's mother) who terrorizing towns again, Beowolf lost his life after the battle with his monster son. Grendel's mother & royal dragon horn reappear after beowolf death, this time Beowolf aging friend holding the royal dragon horn & saw Grendel's mother heading towards him, with no clue true intention of Grendel's mother. My opinion, maybe beowolf 2 will be on screen, as the stories seems incomplete....
