I recently had an allergic reaction to something and the first thing I did was reach for the pink Benedryl box. Well, I am an adult and my reaction was quite bad so I took 2 pills. Four hours later my head was spinning AND my reaction had no change. I took one more pill. Again, I knocked out and when I woke up I was still swollen up. Four hours after the one pill I took 2 more, and guess what? Still no change. I gave up and the next day I went to the doctor and got Xyzal. Doesn't make me as drowsy and I can function, and not to mention the doctor gave me samples so I didn't even have to get an Rx. Will not be taking Benedryl next time I have a break out, I will just go to the Dr first thing and get the Rx.

When it comes to allergies, Benedryl is the number one otc allergy med to take. I have taken it for years and have trerrible allergies. I can always rely on Benedryl though to clear up my sinuses and itchy eyes and wheezy throat....

I suffer from allergies several times a year, and I've tried many different products to get relief. I find Benadryl is one of the few products that works for me. I just wish it would last longer so I could sleep through the night.

Quick View: I am really sick as I write this. Have been for a week. My nose is running like a faucet and my head feels like a lead balloon. I am swallowing stuff that is making me cough and feel sick to my stomach. I am a mess. And I can't take a good cold remedy because I can't take ANY decongestants due to being on thyroid medication. Benadryl helps me to breath and stops everything from running for a while.

My Take on Benadryl Allergy Medicine

We buy the big boxes with foil sheets of blister packed tiny pink pills. Benadryl is only an antihistamine so it doesn't make people shaky or jittery. Quite the contrary, it makes most people sleepy. Those who have heart issues, anxiety issues, high blood pressure, thyroid issues, and other medical concerns are usually cautioned not to take typical cold and flu remedies because the decongestant in them can cause worse health issues than the ones the medications are taken for.

My doctor says NO every time I beg to be able to take Drixoral, which...

Benadryl Allergy liquid cough syrup has no sugar and no alcohol. The dye free clear liquid goes down well. As a Type 2 diabetic, when I get sick I worry that the cold medicine will cause my glucose levels to skyrocket. Benadryl Allergy liquid cough syrup has worked well for me. I am able to keep my glucose levels within normal range while I use the cough syrup to eleviate the cough and sinus drainage that aggravates the cough.

This liquid works well for the occasional sinus allergies. The types of allergies best treated are the ones that cause drainage to the back of the throat. The excess mucus usually triggered a cough or sore throat. I have used the Benadryl Allergy liquid over the last year with great success.

However this product is not for long term use. The antihistamine will build up in your system to a point where I have experienced sleeplessness. Usually by the 3 day on the OTC medicine I will not be able to sleep. At this point, the best thing to do is to stop the OTC medicine....
