Basset Hounds are the most easy going dog I have ever come across. They love to be loved, and don't require a lot of attention or exercise. They do tend to slobber & shed quite a bit, but get past these things, and they are fabulous dogs to own.
...

Bassett Hounds are just wonderful dogs and they deserve the five star rating. Who can say no to those sad eyes, big floppy ears and cute stubby paws. They are just delightful. Mine is a year and a half and is full of more energy than I have seen in any other dog. She is the star when we take her to the dog park and she is the one every gets googly eyed towards. With many great qualitys she does have a few downers including sneakiness..like when we leave food on the counter. (we know better than to ever walk away with something in reach). They also have great noses so they love to sniff and sniff..and sniff. Sometimes that is a little frustrating when taking them on walks, but sometimes they may like to go for a jog along side of you. They are very loveable diogs who will great you the second you walk in the door. They just want to be near you and will love you unconditionally! Give the poor pooch a chance!
...

Christene421 says "Cleo Patra a basset poodle mix" about Beggar BASSETT HOUND

Basset Poodle mix breed dogs. When I was five years old my father bought my mother a basset poodle mix. She looked like a short big eared beagle, until she was bathed. Her hair then got real curly like a poodle. We named her Cleo Patra. She was the family pet that we catered too and loved for the next 14 years. She was a fertile little thing giving us nine litters of puppies with 6 - 8 puppies in each litter. Every-time my parents went to have her spayed, they found her to be expecting yet again. We kept one of the puppies from each litter and were rewarded with another lovable kid friendly pup to love and who loved us. Although full blooded bassets tend to be a bit smelly and very slobbery, Cleo and her pups never had those issues. They were all smart, easily trained, well mannered dogs. They were all friendly, loving, and companionable. My mother took to one of the pups who became her biggest truest companion when my father was forced to take a job in another city and...
...

I LOVED my Basset Hound, Beauregard! He was always so sweet and cuddly. I loved when he would stand at the top of the stairs and look down at me, all that loose skin would fall forward-so cute!!! He was a very clumsy pup, tripping over his ears and huge paws (both of which he grew into).

We must have been given a hunting line because he was very active, I would take him on three hour walks and rollerblading-he was a little slow going downhill but did well for a few blocks, lol. He did however make a great couch potato. If you intend to get this breed please be aware that they think with their noses first and will follow it anywhere, including show lines! They can also have a mind of their own and can be stubborn. They have a distinct loud baying-I could identify him from far ( often a few miles at a time)away just by his baying.

One day an angry neighbor came to inform us that our beloved Basset ruined their screen door to get at their beagle, she was in heat at the time-oops!...
...

What a cutie!! I absolutely love bassett hounds - they are so kind and lovable. A little hard to train and unstoppable once they start eating but once they get in your heat and blood you'll never want another breed.
...

When our Beagle died an acquaintance asked us to take her 2 bassetts for her due to her move. They are the best dogs ever. Even though they are sisters their personalities are like night and day. Betti and Bertha get along great with other dogs. Another nice thing about them is that bassetts sleep about 18 hours a day-not high exercise dogs....

ctoney1983 says "Elvis: My hound dog!" about Beggar BASSETT HOUND

I have a bassett hound. His name is Elvis, and I love him as though he's my child. Elvis is extremely friendly. He rolls over on his back, and just wants you to pet his tummy. Elvis would not hurt a fly, and he just wants to be loved. A friend of mine brought over her 10 month old baby, and Elvis laid on the floor with the baby, and literally let the baby roll over him. Elvis is a great dog. He doesn't chew anything, mess in the house, or bark to much. The only cons are that he sheds A LOT, and considering that he is a hound dog, once he gets his nose to the ground outside he is gone. So, a fence is recommended.
...

his is a story about my new Basset Hound puppy, Ginger Boudreaux.

She was born December 23, 1995 and I got her as a surprise when she was 8 weeks old. These pictures were taken when she was only 3 months old. Ginger might look like a sweetheart, but she is actually a little demon dog!!!!!!!!

Ginger is my second basset hound. The first one's name was Brandy. She was my best friend. I got her in first grade and she lived for four and a half years. She died about 1 week before Ginger was born . A couple of teenagers were speeding in front of our house and hit her . It was a tragic moment for my family and me. Every night I can feel her on my bed. Ginger will NEVER be off her leash!!!

The person who made Ginger a demon dog was me. I always rough-housed with Brandy, so I rough-house with Ginger. Once Ginger ate a little spool of thread and got sick. She eats almost everything in sight!!!! I collect Barbies and I got a new one with long hair and she tried to eat it, [the hair] Once I was...
...
