A real awesome movie with a great storyline. This movie is about a single dad who is a preacher who is trying to raise his only daughter by himself. The preacher is very sad that his wife left him and his daughter and you can see that his heart and his daugthers are broken. But in this new town they moved in they added a run away dog to there home and alot of laughs and joy returned to both of them. A very heartfelt enjoyable movie. One worth watching a few times a year on a rainy day......</p>... The dog starts making a scene with the employees and when the manager wants the dog gotten rid of, the little girl tells him he can not get rid of the dog because it is hers. She feels as though she has no one there for her and no friends, so with Winn Dixie by her side she meets quite a few people from the little town she is now stuck in and finds out that she does have friends and they all care about her. One of the first people she comes across is Otis, an ex convict who works at the pet store where she goes to find Winn Dixie a collar. Otis was arrested for disturbing the peace by playing his guitar in town and when the cop tried to take his guitar he broke the cops nose.  Opal meets a lady whos name is Glorida Dump that all...</p>... Didnt expect the movie to give the book justice but it did. Its a sweet movie for kids of all ages. It has something for parents and kids. Because of Winn Dixie is for animal lovers, parents, and kids who all want a heart warming story of love. The only part I would warn parents about is there is a sad part that might get to your kids. I won't say want it is but if your kid is under the age of 8 or so you might want to read the book, so you'll know what happens.</p>... The story is cute, and the movie has a great message - that people of all ages and backgrounds can be friends, and that people who seem weird or scary might actually be nice if you get to know them. Although it's a tiny bit sad, it ends happily. I'd recommend it to kids of all ages and even adults who are looking for a simple, heartwarming, entertaining movie.</p>... The year Winn Dixie came out we had to go see it in the movies. There are several parts that are different then the book but it still has the same meaning and keeps the same mood as the book. This seems like an original film. It is about a girl whos mother left her and her dad who is a preacher. They have just moved into this new town in a trailer court. So she goes to the grocery store named Winn Dixie and this dog is running up and down the isle and the manager is ready to call the pound till she says it is her dog. So she takes it home and the manager of the trailer park and her dad doesn't think it is a good idea at first but they warm up to the idea. She ends up getting a summer job in a pet shop and meet a man named Otis, she goes to the library and has many discussions with Franny Block the librarian, and she gets to meet who the Dewberry boys call the witch Gloria Dump who becomes one of her best friends.
