Be Kind Rewind was a disappointment. I watched it on pay per view. I was so bored by it I couldnt wait for it to finish. It wasn't funny at all but slow moving. There wasnt much plot in the movie. I wish I could have gotten back the time I spent watching it. It was in my onpion one of Jack Blacks worst movies....

This movie was a total waste of time. I watched the whole thing waiting for it to get better. It was poorly written. It almost seemed like it was written as they were filming because ideas and plot lines were not even fully established. Some big name actors....but it was a waste of their talent....

Be Kind Rewind is a sweet little comedy directed by Michael Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) from a script he must have written sometime around 1998. Jack Black and Mos Def head a strong cast that also includes Danny Glover and Mia Farrow.

The story revolves around the dilapidated video store of the title, which deals exclusively in VHS rentals. By the time this movie hit theaters in 2007, most films were no longer available in the VHS format.

So part of the entire premise of the film is a hopeless anachronism, that Glover's character would be unaware of how major video rental chains function, and that the DVD supplanted VHS as the dominant rental medium for the last decade, and that major video rental chains are now getting crushed by Netflix.

The rest of the premise concerns Black's character becoming magnetized, then erasing all of the titles at the video store, so that he and Def are forced to remake all of the movies in "sweded" versions. If you are able to suspend disbelief......

Our family went to see this movie. It started out ok about remaking movies after Jack Black became magnetized and erased all the movies in an old video rental store. There was really no basic plot for the film and it seemed to just go from one silly antic to another. Not worth the price to see at a theater.
