IBM says "Avis is Dishonest!!" about Avis

When I made my reservations with Avis I also added a coupon code at the time of the reservation without any issue, at the time I picked up my car I brought the coupon to the attention of the Clerk who said that he sees the coupon and will honor it at the time the car was returned. Once the car was returned my coupon was not honored and I was told that they do not know what the coupon was for and cannot do anything about it.

Avis commitment to customers is dishonest, and false advertisement false promos should be looked into. I'm filing a complaint with BBB for the principle of it.

This Avis is located at 1300 Route 35 in Matawan.
...

wrighthoward says "Avis unresponsive with accident claims, poor customer service." about Avis

I was invloved in an auto accident with a person who was driving an Avis rental car. It has been over 3 weeks and I have had no rersponse from Avis. I clearly am the victim of Avis's poor customer service and obviously overworked claims department.

I have been assigned a claim number, adjusters name and phone numbers, yet after several attempts to reach this person and her supervisor by phone, alll I get is an answering machine and NO ONE respnses. I then faxed an accident report showing their client was clearly at fault, along with the estimate for damages and still absolutely no response.

I don't believe that I would ever rent a vehicle from them because of the poor customer service.

While picking up a rental car from Avis in Madrid, Spain; the agent said that the reason that minor scuffs on bumpers were not marked on the paper work, was that every car in their fleet had scuffed bumpers and that "damage" would only pertain to a cracked mirror or lens or a significant dent. Upon returning the rental, I was conversing in English to my friend when I heard the original avis employee who gave us the car telling the other employee in the kiosk that if it is the silver VW to list damage to the rear passenger side bumper for an extra charge. Though I do not look like the typical Spaniard, I am from Spain and speak fluently. I interrupted, speaking in Spanish to tell the employee that I understood very clearly what he just said and explained that I would not be paying extra for any other charges. He then exited the kiosk and never returned during our visit. The other employee then accepted the car and reluctantly signed the receipt noting no other damages. Though...
...

Avis was the only rental company that could guarentee an automatic car for me in Florence. Their reps are generally helpful and spoke decent English. The only downside? For someone under 25, they are a bit expensive. Leave yourself a good amount of time for picking up and returning your car.
...

Terrible experience with Avis Rental Cars (June 2009)

We arrived on June 12, 2009 at 7:30 am at the Starnberg, Germany, Avis branch to pick up the car we reserved online for a 7:30 am pick-up time. To our dismay, the car was not available and we were told to return at 9 am when the car would be delivered from Munich.

To our greater consternation, approximately two hours into our drive, a motor light came on in the dashboard of the rented vehicle, and when we contacted the Starnberg Avis office, we were told to call the 24-hour hotline posted in the window of the car. We used additional call time on our international cell during which we were redirected several times, until we were finally told that we must take the car to an Audi garage in the town we were visiting and wait for a diagnosis of the problem! We were told that it was not possible to send anyone out to look at the car, since it was still drivable. Nor were we given directions to the garage; they simply told us: "you'll...

...

snoozypanda says "Their latest EZFuel program is a complete racket. Worst Rental." about Avis

If I could give the Las Vegas Avis Rental center 0 stars I would.

Their latest "program" charges you $13.99 for 0-75miles driven--we specifically were asked during check-in whether we wanted to opt out of the program, so naturally we said yes. The woman was very rude, but made it clear that we had to decide there because it was an opt-in/out program.

We refilled the tank to full as usual, and noted upon return that we were charged a $18 fee (after taxes). We immediately turned around to inquire about the additional charge and were told this was for the $13.99 EZFuel program (or whatever it was called). We made the mistake of paying the $8.05 in gas in cash (we're in vegas after all, cash dealings is almost the norm), so we did not have a receipt to provide to "waive" the fee.

We got the manager out--a youngish guy--extremely rude and poor customer service (none at all really). The contract specifically states that yes, a fee will be charged "if rental is returned with less fuel than originally...
...

cplayer says "A WARNING - DO NOT USE AVIS: AVIS- CHEAT CUSTOMERS" about Avis

A WARNING - DO NOT USE AVIS Car rentals

Recently I rented a car from AVIS and on returning from my vacation found
that they had charged me an extra 135 EURO.

The people at the AVIS counter blatantly LIED to me I was told that a charge
was there FOR ADMINISTRATION purposes ONLY in the case of an accident -

No accident occurred and later I was told, NO that charge was for insurance.

I had already paid insurance when ordering the car - resulting in being
charged TWICE for insurance and NO ACCIDENTS occurred.

They then proceed to charge me for bringing the car back late - ANOTHER
LIE as they claim the car was taken out just minutes after my plane landed
- (They also showed NO proof of my signature on the document with the time
they claim I took the car).

Further to that they informed me I had a grace period of 59 minutes from the
time I could bring the car back and would still not be charged another LIE.

I brought the car back ON TIME and in the EXACT SAME CONDITION as I took it
out,...
...

StevenGoldman says "avis does not try harder" about Avis

in october, 2009 i rented a car with avis portugal. after going 15 miles, the clutch went bad. when i dropped off the replacement car at lisbon's airport, i could not get a final bill since paperwork was not complete. a month later i get my TD Bank Visa bill. avis charged me $2300 for the repair of the clutch. i disputed this charge with td bank. in march, 2009 the bank denied my claim. eventhough i am responsible for damages "resulting from a crash, collision or rollover...", the bank and visa took the word of avis that i damaged the clutch. there was no proof that i damaged the clutch and it is ludicrous to even suggest that i could ruin one after 15 miles of highway driving.

avis used the excuse that they have no control over avis portugal since they are a franchise eventhough one can reserve a car in portugal on avis' website. they originally told me that since i disputed the bill with visa it was out of their hands. i made the dispute because avis' customer service would not respond...
...

kallain says "Don't rent from Avis" about Avis

I rented an avis car from the Hilton in Glendale CA (close to LA), I was driving it to Las Vegas one way. The lady at the counter was very rude and not professional at all. Because I had a Canadian license she didn't know how to handle it, she kept having to call someone for help. I was finally input into the system OK. However, she was unable to input my sister as a second driver (also with a Canadian license), I ended up being the only one allowed to drive on a 4-5 hour drive. This woman didn't know what she was doing. Anyway, we get down to the dark underground parking garage where our car is. On first glance it look alright, but it was hard to tell in the poor lighting. But inside the car, it hadn't been cleaned out as there was still garbage from the previous renter. It's not until I'm already on the highway when I notice that the gas was only three quarters full! This car hadn't even been looked at since the previous renter! Not to mention the car obviously was in a previous accident...
...

prabhaat says "Will never rent from Avis again" about Avis

I had recently reserved a Standard car from Avis at their airport location at Salt Lake City. The reservation showed that the car was a "Ford Fusion or similar". Everything was going well until the agent told me that I would be getting a Mitsubishi Eclipse instead. Now a few years ago, I would have happily taken the car. But this time, I had my wife, my 2 year daughter and 3-4 bags of luggage, which would not have fit in the Eclipse. I explained to the agent, that my reservation shows a Ford Fusion or Similar, so he needed to give me a Sedan, not a sports car.

He originally denied that my reservaton had any such car type mentioned. After I showed him my print out, he claimed that the Eclipse and Fusion were similar cars (seriously !!), not to mention that he was extremely rude while saying so. After that he told me that I should "stop talking" and take the Eclipse or try to find a car with someone else. He says - "Take it or Leave it".

I took the time to reserve a car on Avis' website for a recent trip to Denver. When I arrived at their location the clerk told me "we don't have a car in that class available, you can wait while we try to locate one and clean it, or you can upgrade to a hummer h3 for $15 extra per day." I told him I didn't want the hummer and if they didn't have the car I reserved, they should honor the price. He stated he couldn't do that, so I took the hummer, given my only other option was to sit around while they tried to find and clean the car I had reserved. Presumably the purpose of taking the time to reserve a car is to make sure it is available when you arrive. We all have better things to do than wait while somebody tries to find and clean a car that should be ready. The hummer I received stunk of cigarette smoke, but worked out.

The vehicle I reserved was $407.77 When I turned in the hummer, with a full tank of fuel, I was handed a bill in the amount of $642.16. I was charged the extra $15...
...

100 miles away from Slat Lake City, where we rented the car we had a blow-out. We called the supposed 24/7 roadside assistance line on Avis' agreement folder. They did not have anyone that could come out to assist us. They suggested that we could drive on the donut for 3000 miles. On 80 mph speed limit roads that was not an option. The next suggestion was that they provide info on the nearest place we could get a new tire. The place they sent us to was 50 miles away and when we got to the address found that it hadn't been Big O Tires for 2 or 3 years. We were lucky. There were 2 other dealers in town and 1 had tires that would work. I say "tires" because when the mechanic put the car on the lift both tires had the steel belts showing. This car hadn't been gone over in quite some time. Because Avis would not give the shop a credit card to bill it to I had to pay for the $662 job myself. I was told by a manager named Drew that the amount would be subtracted from...
...
