littlemike says "ask.com backdoored me my defualt search engine" about Ask.com

Hard to say anything good about a search engine that uses backdoor methods to get installed to your computer. I have Firefox and somehow during some update, probably not through Firefox but an associated add-on ask.com installed and without asking replaced Google in my search area. It rewrote Firefox to the point I had to do a reinstall. Going to the web after and reading the other reviews done on ask.com I get an it is one of the worst search engines out there as a consensus opinion. Google it (ask.com reviews) and see for yourself. I look at the positive posts here and guess they were wrote by the ask.com company. Beware of this search engine. It is not your friend.
...

victoria24 says "Works great and has better privacy than Google" about Ask.com

I don't use Ask.com as much as Google, but I do use it a lot. It's a great search engine and in my opinion is just as easy to use as Google and has just as good results. I use it fairly often for basic search, images, and news, and it works great for all of these.

What makes Ask better than Google is that it's a lot more respectful of your privacy. Google tracks all of people's searches, with their IP address, and as far as I know there isn't any way to opt out. Ask has a cool feature called the "Ask Eraser" which enables you to tell Ask not to store your IP address with your searches. I really like this because I don't like the idea of search engines tracking people's Internet activity.
...

misbehavin says "do not use this search engine" about Ask.com

My experience in using the ask.com website hasn't been great, to me the website is more dificult to use than your average search engines like Google for example. When using this engine i put in the key words as always that i am searching for and it would either say not found or it would give you something that was almost spelled like it or something off the wall. I have never really been able to access what i am researching on this website without a hassle. It takes me a lot longer to use this search engine than it does any other that i have ever used. I wouldn't recommend this search engine unless you are someone that is very experienced with computers and search engines because i found that it isn't that easy or resourceful to use. I think that this search engine needs some work done to it like maybe some more resources or a better easier way to look up what you are trying to research.,
...

I have been using Ask.com (AskJeeves) for many years; before it was well-known, and before Google existed. It always seems to follow my train of thought well....

Excellent site for those little questions you just need to find help on and get some answers to. A great way to find very useful sources and discover new sites. Every response may not be exactly what you were looking for, but there is always a variety of responses to review.

Find answers for "how to's", party ideas, gift ideas, craft ideas and anything else you can think up. It's never a stupid question if you just ask.com.
...

I usually use Google.com for my every day searches but occasionally I think of something that just can't be summed up into one or two words and that's when I go to ASK.com.

I love that I can ask it a question and a list of web sites that might have the answer pop up. You don't seem to find as many websites listed as Google.com, but often times it can get you started in the right direction and then from there you can try searching either more into what ASK.com gave you or take that info and go to another site.
...

When it comes to search engines, Google practically own the field. As an avid reader, writer and researcher, I've become very good at using Google to get the information I need.

But there are times

Yes, there are times that I'm stumped. I don't know whether I'm just on overload or what, but I just can't seem to refine the search to give me precisely the nugget of information I'm looking for.

Funny, I can frame the search as a question in my mind but I can't seem to get Google to give me what I'm looking for. That's when I turn to Ask.com.

Ask.com

If it's been awhile since you've used something other than Google for search, you might remember this search engine by its original name Ask Jeeves. The site, now owned by IAC/Interactive Corp. and headed by media mogul Barry Diller was originally designed to be searched by responding to specific questions asked in everyday English. Google of course, went the key word and qualifier approach. So, if you're strong in Boolean Logic, Google...
...
