My iPod Nano 3rd generation 4GB replaced my iPod Nano 1st generation that accidently got washed in a pair of jeans 3 years ago by an ex-boyfriend none the less...lol. I enjoy my iPod Nano, it's a little bit pricey; however, the quality and durability is great and I haven't had any problems. 4GB is approximately 900 songs; although you can also play music videos, movies, podcasts, audiobooks, and photos. The 2" screen is large enough to perform any of the tasks listed above. I usually use mine to play music in the car, at the office/home, or travelling. Sometimes (believe it or not) it is difficult to choose only 900 songs and at times I find myself weeding through the iPod to make room for new songs. I find that the Nano's small size is easier to hold in my hand and less combersome than the iPod classic.

The Facts:

Extras: world clock, calender, stopwatch, contacts

Games: Vortex, iQuiz, and Klondike

cookiemonster202 says "if u put in your pocket it will break." about Apple - iPod Nano 3rd Generation Media Player

PRICE: As just about every anti-iPod reviewer mentions, THE IPOD IS MORE EXPENSIVE AND DOES PRETTY MUCH THE SAME THING. The iPod is basically the BMW of mp3 players...the other mp3 player work like, and cost about as much as a Kia. They all do basically the same thing, but the cheaper ones are cheaper for a reason!

SIZE: All three players are smaller than a walkman, so it's kind of silly to even discuss this, but it seems to be a hot topic in the other reviews. From largest to smallest the players are ranked as follows: Lyra, Zen, iPod. The Lyra is the only one of the three which will not fit easily in your pocket. It is the widest /longest /heaviest of the bunch, and personally, I hated the way it felt in my hand. The Zen and the iPod were both a pleasure to hold.

CONTROLS/NAVIGATION: iPod gets first place here simple because it's touch sensitive navigation wheel allows you to get from the first album in your collection to the last in seconds and it stops on a dime anywhere in between....
...

I highly recommend the iPod Nano Third Generation Media Player for anybody that needs a great, lightweight and very compact mp3 player, it is also available with plenty of storage space for all your favorite songs, music video's, album covers and even pictures. This product is also a very durable item, I have had my iPod Nano Third Generation Media Player for over a year and it has been through a fair amount of abuse, I have taken it hiking, to the gym, running, and to the beach, and it has never failed me. I really enjoy using iTunes to download songs and find out about new music and then easily importing it to my iPod, also the screen is a high quality, high definition screen, small, but great for album covers and other pictures. The iPod Nano Third Generation Media Player is great for taking anywhere you want to listen to your favorite songs, watch music videos, or look at high definition pictures.
...

I have had the first three generations of Ipod nano, and this is by far the best. I wish the screen was a bit bigger, but overall it's pretty easy to watch movies and shows. I can also fit all my photos and music on it. great little mp3 player, definately worth the extra money.
...

Oh my gosh, who would of never thought they go smaller or even cute! The Ipod Nano(s) are one of a kind. I perferably go with the Ipod nanos then the regular touch screen or the bigger generations! I own a 8 GB black ipod nano 3rd generation, (the square type nano) and man its incredible how it can hold videos and music on the go. I'm telling you, smaller is better and yet our future technology gets things out there faster and more space. If you get an ipod, be sure to go for the nano's. I know who ever decides to buy or will be owning one, you won't be disappointed. Its durabiltiy is awesome, nothing should be a problem if its being taken care of due to damages or heat exposure!
...

Avidytueab says "Well-designed mp3 player without the frills of the newest nano" about Apple - iPod Nano 3rd Generation Media Player

I have had my iPod nano 3G for over a year now, and I absolutely love it. To me, the design of this particular model far exceeds that of the 4G or the mini- the nano fits perfectly in your hand, and it's compact, but the screen is large enough so you don't have to squint to see it.

Although 3G nanos are becoming harder and harder to find new, to me, they are a better deal than the 4G- no annoying shake to shuffle feature here. Also, the colors offered are gorgeous and much less garish than those on the 4G.

Unfortunately, there are a few kinks in the 3G nano that can be quite annoying. Frequently after updating the nano, the sound will fluctuate with the slightest touch of the click wheel. Also, the click wheel is hard to control precisely when this happens, so I usually have to turn the nano off and on several times before it will function normally again. Additionally, if the nano is not synced with iTunes for a couple of weeks or more, it will begin deleting and/or moving artwork. ...
...

The Ipod Nano 3rd Generation is a good mp3 player. It can hold many songs and has no playback issues thaat I am aware of. It also does not skip when riding a bike, running, or driving on bumpy roads. Also, the battery will last you about eight hours if you let it play through your songs without pressing to many buttons. This is good for plane rides when you want to listen to music and have no particular song you want to hear. On the other hand, the battery will not last nearly as long if you select many different songs by flipping through the menus. This was a problem for me because most of the time, I want to hear a certian song and I am away from a charger. When my Ipod was sold to me, It was 120 dollars. This was pretty expensive for a third generation cosidering that the Nano Chromatic was released within the month of my purchase for around that price. Even though I felt that the price was too high, the Ipod itself was not bad. Despite battery life iussues, it was worth the money. I...
...

pitcherday says "A click-wheel is a crappy way to navigate menus" about Apple - iPod Nano 3rd Generation Media Player

I got my 3rd Generation Nano brand-new. I still haven't filled it up. I think the screen is an OK size to watch shows on. If I have to go to the mechanic or wait for my husband at the doctor's I like watching a show. Sound quality is good and you can store photos on it.

The earbuds Apple included are hard plastic and they fell out of my ears all the time. I bought some Skullcandy Ink'd ones with the soft buds. Not a big-money investment.

I really hate navigating my music menus with the click-wheel. It's very sensitive and it's dangerous to try and go to another playlist if you are driving. You keep going past it. The click wheel makes an annoying clicking noise (hence "click-wheel") when you navigate a menu or turn up the volume. You can shut the clicking noise off in the settings.

One of the first things I did with the click-wheel was to accidentally change the language to Japanese. So I had to have iTunes restore it. It couldn't have been Spanish or French or another language I could...
...

I just bought the ipod nano 3rd generation and I love it! I just upgraded from my Ipod nano 2nd generation and was surprised by the big improvement! Not only is the screen bigger and the capactiy increased, but even the little details like the cover flow, the transition between songs, the games offered and the ability to play movies or music videos is a plus! I like the wider size too because it makes it easier to hold onto. It also makes it easier to find if you loose it :) I bought a silver 4GB and already have appx. 800 songs on there. This is just the right amount of space for me, although if you wanted music videos or movies I would suggest getting the 8GB, or even upgrading to the Ipod classic. Overall, I'm very impressed with the ipod nano 3rd generation and plan on keeping it until it doesn't work anymore! Or at least until i can afford to get an ipod classic...Oh the earphones from Apple are really good too. I don't like the buds that go right into your ear, these...
...

I love my iPod Nano. I got 4 GB and it is doing fine, but I can see how an avid music lover, constant iPod listener would use up its memory fast, fast. The songs are reasonable if you know where to get them - try some sites from other countries. Albums are more reasonable than CDs from the store.

The click wheel takes a little getting used to. I still fumble my selections. I like the locking mechanism so that it doesn't use up battery in my purse while I'm not looking.

Love the game capabilities. And, you can play them while you are listening to the tunes. It can be so functional for busy professionals or busy, involved humans of any sort. I don't use my calendar functions, etc. because I use my computer. Mostly I work, eat, play with kids, TV, bed, do it again. However, I like to use the iPod while I'm working (drowns out the loud barking dogs), and while I'm crafting. The options for portability are getting better and better, so they are more and more functional...
...

I received the 8 gigabite iPod nano for Christmas two years ago and I still find that I love it. It is small and light so there is no problem bringing it places. It holds a ton of music. I have over 700 songs on it, video, and pictures and I still have over 4 GB left. I liked the size of it and how many different accessories you can purchase for the nano. I also loved how many colors you could pick. The only thing that confuses me is why did they only have this style for one year? I wasn't sure if it had something to do with wanting to keep the accessories the same from the previous years or not. I also really enjoy the iTunes application. It seems I can find any song I would ever want to hear on there...and $.99 per song isn't too much to pay.

The only problem I have ever had with it is it will occassionally skip past songs when they have only played half-way. Not sure if there is some issue with my iTunes that I have to look at or an issue with the iPod though since...
...

I seriously couldn't live without my Applie iPod Nano! I was lucky enough to get it as a birthday gift last year and I've had it on pretty much ever since then! It's perfect in size, travels in my purse very well and is small enough to fit in my pocket when I'm on a run. I love being able to put in my ears and get away from whatever it is that is getting on my nerves at that point in time.

Best uses I've found for my iPod...while on my morning jog, drowing out annoying coworkers, getting away from it all on an airplane, watching tv shows and movies while on the treadmill, plugging it into my car speaker and jamming to my favorite tunes during road trips!

I have the blue iPod, which I really like because when I gave my old music player to my boyfriend I had a PINK one to give him! I love to watch movies on it while I'm running on my treadmill or waiting for the bus and of course on long road trips where I don't feel like making conversation!
...
