Great resource for finding out more about your own family history. I started researching my family's genealogy a year ago and have since traced my Father's ancestry back to the 15th century. Lots of information in a fairly easy to navigate site. Introduced me to family members my grandparents weren't even aware of.

Monthly subscription adds up, so I would recommend starting with the 6 month subscription and extending if you like the service.

Overall, if you're a researcher like me and like to uncover secrets and solve mysteries about the past, Ancestry.com can help you do it. Recommended.
...

This is my favorite website to do my genealogy research. I have been doing research for about 5 years now, but I have been on a gazillion websites to try to do research. I am doing mine and my husband families and I have found a wealth of information on Ancestry. You can find out all the areas you ancestors moved to thru the years, if they could read or write, it even tells you were they were born and where their parents were born. on the census records and that is just one of the documents you can find on here. I can put a name in the search box and it will pull a person with that name. The more things you can add before you start the search the better your outcome. I used Ancestery when I first started my research and I ran into many dead ends. I decided to take another look at it about 3 months ago and it has changed into a better than ever research site. They have a family tree on the website that you add to as you find info. Then while you are researching...
...

Absolutely one of the best family finding resources on the WWW. I have found members that had long been forgotten about in my family lineage and would recommend the site to anyone curious of their family heritage. The only con I found is that for full benefits you must pay the membership fee, although that is miniscule when compared to many other sites that compete for the same business....

I have been doing genealogical research on and off for many years - maybe 15 or more. I have subscribed to various web research services. Somehow, Ancestry.com is one of the survivors, as many others have closed. For lack of revenue, I presume.

Ancestry.com has served me well. Its only real shortcoming has been my shortcomings. Unless you have a lot of time to devote to your search, you will run out of subscription before you complete your searches.

You also need to pay for the service after the trial period. We get used to getting free stuff on the web and we presume that is the way it is supposed to be. Perhaps. But searching census records, baptismal records, obituaries, marriage records and birth records all over the world is not penny candy. Not to mention that the output you receive is only as good as the input from you and from the sources.

If a census taker spelled a name wrong or a transcriber made an error in transferring it from handwritten to digital, you will get an imperfect......

Telpher says "Sneak a peak at your past and find long-lost relatives" about Ancestry.com

A few years ago, I realised that, once my parents are gone, there really won't be anyone aorund to tell me about my family's past. Luckily, my grandmother was a great story-teller, family historian, and pack rat. She kept photos, birth certificates, postcards, letters - you name it. And she talked a lot about her childhood, her parents, her siblings and the small Caribbean town where she grew up. So, in 2001, when I started doing some web research in an effort to put together a family tree, I at least had a few things to start with: place names, names of people, ideas about birth dates. Back then, Ancestry.com was very limited: there were no links to actual historical records and an emphasis was placed on Anglo family histories. Their strength was in their networking tools. One could join or start a thread about a family name, and post messages/queries, in the hopes of finding other researchers looking for the same family history or family name. I didn't have a lot of hope, but I gave...
...

I used the free 2 weeks to get started in genealogy. Didnt realize that after I attached files and the trial ran out that when I clicked on those files it would require me to pay to view them. BOO!

They do have the monopoly on genealogy sites and information. Noone else offers what they can. Therefore it's the only option so people go back to them.
...

I purchased the FTM 2006 suite and was pleasantly surprised by a one year trial usage of their ancestry.com website. Well, after trying for several days to get the search to work, I called their tech support. TS told me that as it was a free trial, they were not liable for any tech support. What good is a free triai if you can't get to use it? The program is great regardless, but if anyone has a subscription to ancestry.com, I wonder do you get this problem with TS as well?

...
