filakos5 says "Mixed emotions" about American Airlines

Although I am an avid fan and frequent flyer with American Airlines lately I have been having mixed emotions about this airline. American offers so many benefits if your an advantage member which I am and I appreciate it, but lately it just hasn't been enough. My first issue is with bag fees. I recently flew from St. Louis to New York City and while I was waiting to board they announced that it was a full flight and would have to be considerate with using the over head compartments. When I finally boarded the airplane there was no where for me to put my stuff and the flight attendants were yelling at people to sit and quit looking for baggage space so the flight could take off. I found this to be very inapporpriate, I understand their frustration but what about ours. We're paying $400.00 for a flight and we have to pay an extra $30.00 to take our bags with us, of course everyone is going to carry on.

My second issue is with customer service I have found on more then one occasion the...
...

EllenMarch says "American Airlines allows employees to steal from luggage." about American Airlines

American Airlines does not have a policy that prevents their employees from stealing from your luggage and they will likely not be very much help in recovering any stolen items.

About a year ago I had a round trip ticket with American Airlines from El Paso to New York City. I packed a small jewelry box, which contained some jewelry in my luggage. The luggage and the jewelry box made it to New York safely. In fact, I received a paper notification that my luggage had been searched and I found that nothing was missing. So, when we were packing for the return flight I thought nothing of it when I packed the jewelry box and a perfume gift box I had received for Christmas. When I got home from the airport I looked through my luggage and found that both the jewelry box and the perfume gift box were not in my bag. I was completely distraught and immediately called AA in order to see if they could help me locate the items.

When I called American Airlines to tell them what had happened, they gave...
...

Inboxras says "I love to FLY - American is my first choice for an airline." about American Airlines

American Airlines - I love to Fly AA - This airline company has been around longer than I've been alive. Their silver coated airplanes with the Red and Blue A's on the tail have inspired me to pick this airline over all others. Their service is top notch, and they stand behind their service. The routes they choose to fly leave one to question what is a HUB? Hubs are basically where the mainstay of the airline is. So when you book travel with American you usually have to fly through or to one of their many Hubs - Like Dallas Fort Worth, Chicago, Atlanta, and especially, New York. I once flew them from LaGuardia Airport to Dallas Fort Worth, and then to Albuquerque, New Mexico for school. I was very afraid of flying back for another year of college, but the staff treated me with respect and the flights were very uneventful. These pilots know what and how to fly!

American and I will have a long relationship forever!

We recently traveled to Europe on American Airlines and words can not fully express the fiasco we endured and their blatant apathy and despicable customer care before, during and after our flight. Following is an excerpt from one of three letters I composed which were answered with lame excuses followed by a telephone call by a customer service representative who tried at every turn to blame us for our trouble and hung up on me when I told her she should be ashamed of herself and the company she represents.

"In January of 2009 I booked a roundtrip flight with American Airlines for myself and my husband from Miami, Florida to Madrid, Spain nine months in advance. When I received our email confirmation I realized the return date was incorrect, whether due to human or computer error I have no idea, but I called your Reservations Department immediately and was informed I would be charged $250.00 per person for correcting the error. I begged and pleaded to several of your employees and, in...
...

I was very dissatisfied with their customer service. I waited in line 15 minutes to check-in. While I was still waiting an AA employee told me I had to go to another line. Not because I was in the wrong line, just because she wanted to even out the lines. I changed lines and waited another 10 minutes. The self check-in machines never work. They never served me my drink on board.
...

In June I used American Airlines to fly to tx. and visit my daughter and her family. The flight there was smooth and on time, had drinks but no peanuts.

Now the returned flight was something else. We had storms coming in on Wed. night and the airport was closed down for incoming and departing flights. My flight was cancelled for Thursday morning. The airlines sent me a e-mail and called me on my cell phone. My daughter called them to schedule another flight for that day but there wasn't anything available that was nonstop. They told her to try in the morning as they were not taking any reservations at that time because of having to meet others needs first, which I understood.I was able to book seating on one that was leaving Friday night by the exit door and they gave me that which worked for me. The flight back was great, the service was as expected giving that there were so many trying to get flights. Was serve drinks and again no peanuts,oh well. The airlines got me back home save and...
...

rit67 says "amazingly awful" about American Airlines

Here's what happened the last two times I flew with American.

The first trip was a Christmas trip home to see family. Apparently the initial flight was having problems, so I get a automated phone call six hours before my flight telling me that my non-stop flight from North Carolina to Chicago had been switched to a flight to Dallas and then a redeye from Dallas to Chicago. I called and got them to put me on a flight through DC that avoided the ridiculous extra travel time to Dallas + layover + redeye. However, if I hadn't gotten the phone call, checked my voicemail, or otherwise gotten the message I would have found out about this at the airport when it probably would have been too late to do anything about it. On the flight home, the pilots and staff were so bad that the passengers starting making jokes like, "I'm not really a pilot, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night."

The second trip was to two different cities, so I had three legs to the trip. One of my flights got cancelled,...
...

Recently my family and I had a nightmarish experience with American Airlines. The employees of American had less than no sympathy and could not be bothered to even acknowledge our predicament. Our flight was to leave BWI at 4:45 and was late due to what the pilot called "maintenance log problems". We boarded the plan at 5:40 or so and the pilot complained that the air traffic controllers would not approve his departure direction. We waited for an additional hour or so. We missed our connecting flight in DFW and the supervisor on the ground took over as gate agent, funneling all of us into one line. We waited 45 minutes. The supervisor gave us a hotel voucher, a dinner voucher and told us we were on the first flight out on first class in the AM.

The transport for the hotel never showed and we paid $30 for a cab. The dinner was delivery pizza in a smelly hotel. When we got to the airport early the next day we and boarded the plane (expecting breakfast) we found our...
...

This is the most retarded customer service ever! They are lying to their passengers- ALL THE TIME!!! My mom and my son were going to fly from Boston to London with American Airlines and the flight got delayed. At the gate I was told the flight got delayed due to the "Air traffic". Then at the Amerian Airlines check-in desk (I was trying to find a way to get my mom and my son to their final destination) I was told they can't do anything about us, because the flight got delayed due to the "inclement weather"??? It was gorgeous outside!!!! 68F, sunny- is that considered "inclement weather"???Since when??? The bottom line is- they would be rsponsible to pay for her overnight stay in case she misses her flight connection in London, therefore they prefer to lie to their customers that it was the "weather " or "air trafic" that delyed the flight, so they don't have to pay for anything (apperently they would take care of you only if ithe delay is due to a mecanichal problem with the plain).

Ten years ago American Airlines would have been ranked one of the most friendly, helpful and also inexpensive. However, for the past 5 years, it has continued to go down the sliding scale into the ranks of, "I will NEVER fly AA again". The last time flying AA, I was booted out of my seat w/o recourse, had the airport security police called on me (I am a 50 year old crippled Caucasian female) and spoke to like I was some sort of misfit.

No thanks. Service was poor, price was comparable, but service and ride was just awful.

I recently flew on AA last March and I had the worse experience ever. When I checked in (DC) the lady at the counter was very rude. Then when I was leaveing from SAT again the lady was rude at the counter. So I called the customer service and was told they can do nothing about it. Last week I was on AA again from DFW to SAT a 45 min flight. I had my 1 1/2 yr old son with me. I gave the stroller when I was boarding the flight in DFW and when I reached SAT the two wheels were broken and the stroller was broken in half. I had just bought it a week earlier so and it was of good quality ($160) so there was no reason for it to break in a 45 min flight other then misshandeling by the AA baggage people. I went to claim it at the baggage dept. in SAT and was told they can do nothing about it. I would just like you to know that you have the WORST STAFF in the entire airline industry and your customer service mimicks the rude behavior of your airport personel. If AA has the least bit of shame or curtasy...
...
