Any of you who is planning to rent a car form them STAY AWAY and if you do dont say I did not warn you. Yopu might get lured by the inital cheap cost as I did when I found them on priceline. I never thought anything could be wrong with a car company but no this one is not as it seems. We booked the car for like one day in Miami and the listed price for it was 58$. looked like a nice deal until we reached Miami and fiasco stuck.

First they do not have enough shuttles so we did wait for like 15 mins for one to come and we felty their shuttles did not even exist first. Then we reached the place with kinda looked dingy and the person on the counter was smart. Though he did explain the points but we knew we were here for a kick.

He told us these guys did not honour any insurance and they do not take any responsibility unlike many other car companies. You need to rather have to take an insurance from them. Well, no one forced it on us but we were left with no option. SO the car that was initially...

We had a lot of travelers and luggage so we got a minivan..the person at the desk didn't know how to type and took a half hour to type in our info. Then handed us keys and sent us into the pitch black parking lot to find our own car. The first van was filthy all over inside and out and had dents, scratches, and it looked like someone spilled crap all over the carpet. We demanded a new one. At first it looked fine...it was dark out and was a black car. It ended up having dents, scratches, the molding around the inside of the window was hanging off and it was filthy all over, and had two flat tires that we weren't aware of until we left. On the shuttle going back to the airport on the way home we all shared our "advantage experience."

Do me a favor...please do not rent a car from Advantage. My husband and I had the unfortunate experience of trying out this rental car company for the first time on our trip to Denver (DIA) and will NEVER use them again. My husband reserved a car online...which was a completely different size/model/make of car than what they gave us. We were supposed to get a sedan and instead got a compact. When we asked for another car...we were told that there were no other cars available....though the lot was full of cars outside. Then we approached the car, it had horrible scratches, scrapes and dents down both sides of the car. The interior of the car was disusting with stains throughout and trash...obviously this car had not been cleaned in weeks. After calling to complain, they only offer me a $30 voucher for a FUTURE rental from them. It will be a cold day in hell before I give them the courtesy.

On Orbitz, Advantage offered far and away the best price. But when I got to Cancun, they said the car I rented wasn't available, so (unlike reputable companies like Hertz and Avis) they'd charge me for an upgrade (since "it isn't [our] fault"). Then, there was "mandatory" insurance I had to buy (I couldn't rely on my credit card's insurance.) In all, they want three times more than I had expected to pay. I heard them giving the same story to two other families.

I refused, went back to the airport, and was lucky enough to get a car from Avis. STAY AWAY FROM ADVANTAGE!!

ADVANTAGE RENTAL CAR.

I rented a car for a week and when I returned it I forgot my GPS inside it. I know I forgot it in the car because I used it to drive to the drop off destination, Denver airport in Colorado.
I called the day after (Saturday morning) and they asked me to call again on Monday because there were nobody in the Lost & Found department. Long story short, on Tuesday they responded my call telling me that my GPS was not there, and since they were unable to have a record of all the people who interacted with the car (received it, cleaned it, etc), no actions will be pursued to clarify the situation.
Even more they questioned my words, suggesting I was lying, like if I had nothing to do but to call the Customer Service department to make up a story.
Not only these guys lie about not having found my GPS, but they are thieves.
For sure I forgot it in the car and this is my responsability, but they stole it and gave me no answers as a Customer. Never deal with them again.

i recently reserved a car in st augustine at advantage auto rental for the holidays to visit family and the car was not available. the girl working was rude and treated me like i was a theif . the cars are older models and not in good condition. i was placed a reservation for a magnum and was offered an old broken up camry. the price i was told on the phone was over a 150.00 difference. and my deposit was kept because i would not take the toyota. i will never do business with this company again ....

Renting with Advantage Rent a Car always leaves me wanting to return to them for more travel opportunities. They increasingly continue to better the deals and they upgrade without charge if desired vehicle is not available. A continued good business that I look forward to using more often.

I made reservations in later October for a vehicle that would be picked up in late November. I called the day the car was to be picked up and the lady I spoke with said that everything was good to go, nothing had changed, etc. Once I got to the airport to pick up the rental I called the Advantage office to have someone send a shuttle. The lady informed me that the reservations had been switched to Alamo. Once I got to the Alamo office the price was outrageous! But that's not Alamo's fault for being ridiculously overpriced. I immediately called Advantage customer care and spoke to a man that told me there was nothing that could be done. I asked him why no one had at least called me and he said that someone did call. When I told him that I never received a call and I only found out because I called Advantage to send a shuttle he changed his tone. I was then transferred to the Chicago-Midway Advantage office and whoever picked up the line didn't answer. Instead I heard yelling, screaming,...

Update - I did hear back from Advantage - they refunded the extra day and the gas charge. So my opinion has gone up - hopefully, they will be clearer on their extra charges, and do a little more customer service training. I guess I would recommend Advantage to a friend - but with warnings!

I rented a car from Advantage at DFW for 4 days. Their estimate was for $24 a day, with the notification of "Extra hour $15, extra day $99.99" I returned it 3 hours late - to my surprise they charged me $99.99! I called and they said anything over 59 minutes is an extra day. I asked why they even mention the hourly rate - she said because it sometimes applies but couldn't say when. I sent in a complaint on their web site and got no response. Other problems - they told me at the counter at fill-up charge was $2.39 which was "way cheaper" than at gas stations. Gas at the stations was $2.29 - $2,49! The map they gave me only showed the locations of Advantage rental offices - useless for...

I too was lured by lower prices at Advantage auto rental. When I arrived, it was nothing but hassles and double talk. My 119 dollar reservation was turned into a 328 dollar rental bill. The awful counterperson asked for my credit card, NEVER telling me that he had added on 3 times the charges to my bill, he ran my credit card and then shoved the receipt at me for my signature like nothing was wrong. I said that I only wanted what I had reserved and offered my reservation receipt again. When I complained about all the extra charges, I was told that I was the one who had asked for them. When I said that I didn't ask for those charges, I was argued with, disrespected by the HORRIBLE counter person, and then told that the counter person knows what he's doing and GOD knows what was said by him and that it was correct. This was a 40 minute issue, the manager had to be called over who barely tried to resolve the issue. I was disrespected and treated rudely by the counter person, and fankly.......

Never rent from this company. They use deceptive marketing and selling practices, and will charge you for everything extra that they can, even when you have explictly said you don't want the various little add-ons they attempt to push on you to increase the fee. Their cars are cheap and poorly maintained as well. The line was over 45 minutes long to rent the car, and I had a reservation! So, while they might seem to have cheaper prices, in the end you'll end up paying more, get horrible customer service, and be stuck with a well-used car. Better to go with Hertz and Avis and pay a bit more for something reliable, and a company that does not cheat you....

$106 a week for a car from Advantage Rent a Car in Cancun sounds like a great deal?

You will not think so when at the end of the week you walk out of their office with a bill for $420.

How does a $106 a week "deal" turns into $420?

Easy.

First they'll "shuttle" you in an unmarked car to their dingy and isolated office in the middle of no-where, where you'll be notified that the advertised deal does not include the "mandatory" third party liability insurance of $14 a day (the highest on any rental company).

Then, when you have no choice and no where else to go, they'll inform you of the 30% in taxes and fees including an "airport fee" (event though their office is no-where near any airport and they don't even have a real official airport shuttle).

Next, they will convert the total into Mexican pesos using an exchange rate close to 20% higher than the official legal rate.

And when you return the car at the end of your vacation and think the pillage and plunder is over .. beware!.........

They informed me that my personal car insurance (issued in another state) was not recognized in the state of Nevada and that I had to purchase their insurance. Which cost more than the rental of the car did!! I contacted the Insurance Commisioner for the state of Nevada and he said that is FALSE! I'm angry that they take advantage of weary travelers! Other than that issue the whole process went smoothly and we enjoyed the car. ANY future business with a car rental agency and I will be ready for battle if they ever tell me that again! So beware and tell everyone you know of my experience. My brother also had this happen to him with Alamo car rental agency located in Las Vegas.
