allthebest says "ATT Customer Service: an ulcer every time!" about AT&T

At this point in my life, I dread calling utitlities such as AT&T. Our contract is up in a week and I just called to get the exact date. We had been planning to renew and after the aggravation tonight trying to get a question about when my contract ends, I am looking elsewhere.

The ATT person who took my call sounded like he looked forward to getting every last detail and name and number and whatever else he could thing to waste my time. Then he had the nerve to say he had questions for me!! Why does ATT think it can waste my time after they repeatedly ask me reduntant questions?

I have had to call ATT over the past two years that we have had our service. I do appreciate that lately calls are answered within ten minutes or even sooner. Additionally, calls have dropped only a handful of times, including when my service was Cingular (which was since 2005ish). That is why I gave them two stars. Other than that, every time I call, I have to go through the automated voicemail gauntlet,...
...

kmcmurtry says "AT&T doesn't deserve to have any customers!!" about AT&T

First I would like to say that I was an AT&T customer because they bought Cingular and SBC. I had great service with the other companies and AT&T did ok until the last couple years. I have spent a great amount of my time on the phone and sending e-mails to try and correct billing and contract issues with them. I finally gave up and took all of my business to other companies. All I did was move and change my cell numbers and somehow my entire bill and contract was messed up. It should not be that hard. Now I'm having billing issues because I disconnected my home phone. I have NEVER been late on a bill and because I removed service it is now marked overdue!! What a crock...good bye and good riddance!!!
...

Well in the nearly 2 years I have had AT&T the service has not been too bad, but I am still switching.

Recently had a large bill and after looking through ALL the calls I noticed irregularities. It took nearly an act of congress to get it dealt with and in the end was told since the SIM # matched the calls were ligit. I think there is a computer error somewhere or something but they say no. hmmm funny that one of our phones shows calls to itself like 6 in an hour .. during a time I know the phone was in a place with NO RECEPTION.

also after my hubbys deployment we reactivated his phone and they mistakenly didn't restore our previous rate plan (which I requested they do) We had a HUGE bill thenext month and it was like pulling teeth to get them to fix it. which they waived the overage charges but we never got our rollover minutes credited back to us.
...

ANTI-ATTFAMILY says "AT&T borders on illegal business practices" about AT&T

AT&T customer service is the worst service I have ever had to deal with. Their phone system and network of customer service representatives is convoluted and designed to funnel you into a frustrated state that ends with you giving up on your issue due to hours and hours waisted on the phone.
More specifically, when we moved to our new home, we signed with ATT after they said our zip code had cell service. Once we moved in, we found out there was zero service for many blocks. We were in a cell dead zone. After 7 months and almost $100 per month, we are tired of not having service. We pay our bill on time every month even though we use only 5% of our allotted time!! We have called ATT 6 times and on the last time tried to get out of our contract via a 3 hour phone call that resulted in numerous on hold periods. The end result is that in order to get out of the contract we will have to pay $175 per line or $350. This is absurd and totally fraudulent. ATT has provided......

moka52 says "AT&T is overprice and not customer-friendly." about AT&T

AT&T bought out my old wireless provider, Dobson Cellular, which had bought out my older wireless provider, CellularOne.

The service is expensive and the options are, at best, confusing. Packages are not very user-friendly, as the increments from one tier to another are to large.

Also, when I set up a new account under AT&T -- switching from Dobson -- I asked if there was a balance left to be paid on my old account. I was told "no." However, 3 MONTHS LATER, my cell service was cut off. I tried calling AT&T with my wireless phone to find out what was the problem, something one could do with CellularOne and Dobson. But AT&T does not allow for that.

So I drove to the nearest AT&T store to find out what was wrong. They looked it up and found the problem was an outstanding balance from my old Dobson account! I paid it, but this very inconvenient.
...

Overall, my experience with the AT&T family plan has been good. AT&T let my family keep the original package we had when we signed like 6 years ago! I would also suggest adding on the insurance for your phone if you are forgetful or clumsy like me and have dropped your phone in water or lost it period! That insurance is a lifesaver! The only negative attribute of AT&T is that the customer service (through the 800 number) is not what it should be for a corporation with such a high stature. Its best to go to a local dealer first because they can usual resolve your problems much faster than customer service can for any phone issues and they're MUCH friendlier! ...

I have been with Cinguler for over 10 years, then they merged with AT&T and I cannot wait for my contract to be up, I think that they now have horrible customer service and if you have a problem forget it you will probaly be on the phone on hold for hours! But I must say that the last time I did call they were actually very helpful....

researchkimmer says "I FINALLY can use my cell phone inside my house!" about AT&T

After previously being a customer of T-Mobile for several years, we were tired of not being able to use our cell phones indoors at our home. It didn't matter if we were renting a basement apartment or were up on the first or second floor, we could not get enough signal strength and would CONSTANTLY be dropping calls while inside. I'm sorry, but if it's a hot, muggy summer day I'm NOT going outside just to talk on the phone (especially with my asthma!) Even texting, which is what we primarily use our phones for, was a problem. Messages would arrive late - and the sports updates would sometimes be DAYS late!

My main gripe is that we have to pay an extra $30 a month to have unlimited texting capabilities (yes, we text that much, excluding sport scores updates). At T-Mobile, that was standard on our last plan and I think it still should be no matter whom the provider is. I will be looking around again when my contract is up. If I can still get reception in my home and unlimited texting without......
