I should have gotten two..  but when they were small, one was enough for two kittens to fight over! Being able to refresh the 'nip is an excellent feature.. although you may want to remove the tassels (if your mat has them) for Kitty's safety.. some cats like to chew them (and you can't be watching them at 2 am). It's not a *bad* product, just an *average* one. It controlled odor as well as my current litter, clumped as well, and pretty much did the same job. In my opinion, not worth the extra cost to do nothing more than less expensive alternatives....
