pelicanprincess says "Disneyland for adults and it's good for you!" about Canyon Ranch - Lenox, MA

I first discovered Canyon Ranch Lenox, MA in fall of 2001. I have made many trips back.

My first experience was after a significant loss. I thought I just needed to exercise and eat better. I got to the ranch where I was not taking care of anyone and basically fell apart. You could not have found kinder more caring people to take care of you. They put me back together. I have returned a # of times. I have certain practitioners I always see. I also experiment with new things. I learned to kayak with their outdoor sports dept.

The Outdoor sports has several daily hikes at various lovely spots in the Berkshires. They are all rated by difficulty with accurate descriptions of terrain and length. They also bike, both street and mountain. Canoeing and sculling are offered. In winter snowshoeing and cross country skiing are offered. Equipment is provided. Beginners are welcome. Many of these activities are included in your cost if done in a group. But they are also happy to arrange private excursions...
...

pelicanprincess says "Make childhood memories with a book everyone can enjoy." about Phantom Tollbooth 1969

I had this book read to me in 4th grade. I rediscovered it as an adult. I read it to my husband who enjoyed it as much as I. The pages sparkel with wit and word plays from the very beginning with a host of wonderful characters.

It starts with a package delivered to Milo. It is large for a small package and small for a large one and is for no special occasion. It contains 1 tollbooth with assorted precautionary signs,to be used in a precautionary manor, coins and a map.

Thus begins an adventure, a romp through make believe with a watch dog named tick who can only tock, a spelling bee who s-p-e-l-l-s- e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g,and a humbug.

The lands of AZAZ where they grow letters and words on trees in orchards, and the kingdom of the mathemagician where they mine # like gems are the first destinations, only reached after navigating out of the doldrums and off the mysterious island of conclusions. You arrive there by jumping of course. A stint in jail with a which (no not a witch,) and assorted...
...

pelicanprincess says "I love my Toyota!" about Toyota Corolla - 2003

This was my first brand new car. I spent weeks looking at and test driving cars. This was the one I loved. It has the most comfortable seats, for my back, whether driving or riding, and I have ridden in a Jaguar,BMW, Cadillac and a host of less expensive cars. I could have bought what I wanted and this was it.

I have a basic car. No power windows, just an automatic, with power steering, and brakes. (what doesn't have those these days) The sound system is basic but good. I have driven it within 3 weeks of total hip replacement, and as soon as I was allowed to do much of anything after back surgery. I can get in and out easily and be more comfortable in it than in some of the chairs in my home.

My husband who is considerably taller than I, finds the drivers seat a bit tight and needs the seat all the way back to be comfortable. So I am not recommending this Toyota for pro basketball players, or giants.

It gets good gas mileage. I average about 32-33mpg. I have spent less than $200 on repairs....
...

pelicanprincess says "Good for Generations!" about KitchenAid Stand Mixer - Classic

I first became aware of the Kitchen Aide mixer when we got 1 for my parents 25th anniversary. Dad said it was for him too, since he helps eat the goodies.

My parents returned the favor and got mine for my wedding 25 years ago. Mom's went to my niece 7 yrs ago. They are both still going strong.

With the whip, beater and bread hook, you can do everything from beating egg whites for meringue to kneading bread dough successfully. It really is an all around mighty helper. It also makes great whipped potatoes or squash.

My husband (who claims to hate veg.) will eat winter squash that I roast whole then split, remove seeds, scoop out of skin directly into bowl of kitchen aide, add a bit of butter, some cinnamon ,nutmeg and a touch of brown sugar, put on beater and beat all on medium speed for a couple of min. He thinks he has squash pie filling! You can do lots of nice things. Be creative, have fun, get the kids to help!
...

pelicanprincess says "The personalized comfort mattress." about Tempurpedic Classic Mattress

I have had a temperpedic mattress for 8 years. I have multiple orthopedic problems and find the temperpedic helpful in pain control. It also makes it less likely that I will wake up my husband when changing position.

The mattress wears well, it has been "turned" twice and that is difficult for 1 person to do alone. The only negative we have found is that it is too firm, at first, in winter. Our house is cool and the tempur material is heat activated( that's how it conforms to you). It's fine once we have been in it for a bit. It also tends to be to warm in summer if you don't have air conditioning in your bedroom on hot days. The mattress retains body heat.

Nothing I have tried feels exactly like it. If you are considering one find a dealer with them set up and try it out. Don't rush. Stay on the mattress for 15-30 min. It's worth the time. You might also want to try it, go home and think about it, then try again. You'll be sleeping on it for many years, take the time to get what...
...
