offseid says "A gripping account of one woman's experience in an Iraqi prison." about Mayada

Mayada is a great book about a woman from one of the most prestigious families in all of Iraq who finds herself arrested on a trumped-up charge and thrown into prison. The story centers on her experience in "Cell 52" and on the interactions between her and the other women there. Flashbacks give the reader insight into the history of Iraq and of Mayada's family.

An incredible book and a very fast read.
...

offseid says "You don't have to pay for a great operating system!" about Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon

Linux has come a long way. If you are a regular computer user (meaning you mainly use it for e-mail, surfing the web, and office documents), then in my opinion there is no reason in the world for you NOT to consider Ubuntu. It is secure, easy to use and does just about everything the average user needs it to do - and sometimes more than even Windows does!

Ubuntu is updated every six months, and the community support is stellar. You can request a free CD-ROM and even run it "live" on your computer without installing it first, so you can try it out.

Go on - give it a shot!

Ubuntu site: http://www.ubuntu.com
CD request: https://shipit.ubuntu.com...

offseid says "A phone is a phone!" about Nokia - 1100 Cell Phone

Don't let all those post-paid cellphone users give you a complex - the Tracfone is an excellent phone, and for the average user will cost much less than one of those big contracts.

The phone itself works just fine. It might not have lots of features, but if you have the money for all those features you'll probably go ahead and get a pricey contract anyway, won't you?

I do prepaid in Asia all the time, so Tracfone was a perfect service for me.
...

offseid says "One of the best games I've ever played!" about Ticket To Ride

This award-winning game has a fun back story and lots of variety even in its basic game play. Players (from 2-5) attempt to connect cities with a row of their little train cars, getting points for each city-to-city route, as well as for the multi-city destination as a whole. Competition over routes could lead to one player having to go the long way around, using up valuable time and train cars.

The 1901 expansion pack is highly recommended, as it adds even more variety to the game and also provides you with a full-sized deck of cards (the original version provides a mini-sized deck which some people don't like).

One of the things I love about this game is that it can be played with only two players. It also has an online version which is great fun!...

offseid says "It's fun, portable and easy to learn!" about Mattel cinq-o

By the makers of Uno, cinq-o is a fun little dice game. You roll five attractive yellow dice up to five times to get either a very low score or a very high score. You multiply the total with a bonus die (a nice purple) to come up with your score for that round. Play then moves on to the next person.

The twist is that the bonus die has to be pointing in the right direction (up for high scores, down for low scores) for you to get any kind of real score for that round. Oh yeah, and if you don't score high or low, your score will suffer as well.

Suggested winning score is 100. The highest score you can possibly get on a round is 30, but the average person will likely get around 10.

Have fun!...
