nightengale7 says "By far the best Jane Austen adaptation of all time." about Pride and Prejudice

I won't bother to write out the plot for this since it is such a well-known story, I'll just give my opinion of this particular movie.

Pride and Prejudice starring Kiera Knightly is a seductive, romantic film that will leave you sighing with desire and dreaming of love on the foggy moors of England. I know that when for me, when the movie ended all I wanted was for someone to call me, "Mrs. Darcy." The film is visually stunning with unique cinematography for a period piece. You see the dirt and grime of everyday life up close as well as enjoy the splendor and grace of the social gatherings of the time. The costumes were perfect, in my opinion. The girls looked superb in their gowns and acheived each of their distinctive personalities in their dress. You weep for the young lovers as they are torn apart by politics and misunderstandings and cry with joy when they are reunited in the most romantic scene I have ever seen in a movie. Absolutely beautiful, stunning, and vivid in...
...

nightengale7 says "An amusing and original take on the life and love(s) of Casanova" about Casanova

Ah Casanova, the legendary "ladies man" that could win the heart (or bed, as it were) of any woman he chose! Heath Ledger makes a very convincing Casanova as he is (or, sadly, was) a very charming individual with rugged good looks and a winning smile that would melt the heart of any woman. His misadventures as he struggles to win the heart of the one woman who wants nothing to do with him are extremely amusing and the ardor of his would-be bride is totally ridiculous but somehow really adds something to the whole of the movie. There is one scene I would have preferred wasn't in the movie, which is where Casanova's "fiance" is under a table doing some rather inappropriate things to him below the belt. I thought it was tasteless and unnecessary for the movie to proceed. However, as a whole, the movie was quite good and I laughed out loud many a time throughout the movie. I wouldn't call it a must-see, but it is worth the time it takes to watch it. Although, I would say to leave......

nightengale7 says "Pretty deep for someone who wears such tight pants..." about Music and Lyrics

Beautiful, neurotic, hypochondriacal writer meets handsome, self-absorbed, boy-band has-been...that's how this movie starts out and I gotta tell ya, it's a formula for greatness! Hugh Grant plays the aging 80's pop star Alex Fletcher who is asked to write a new song for a Britney Spears-type pop star named Cora. In the absence of a "sane" lyricist, Alex discovers his interim plant-waterer, Sophie Fisher (played by Drew Barrymore), is a "born lyricist." Their journey together to write a hit song in only a few days leaves you holding your sides with laughter and, in spite of yourself, saying "awwwwwww" at the end when Alex makes an insanely romantic gesture to win Sophie back after a nasty falling-out (no spoilers here, you gotta watch the movie to see what I'm talking about!). As always, Hugh Grant is ridiculously charming and Drew Barrymore is disgustingly adorable (I say that because, God help me, I want to be just like her). A total must-see for Hugh Grant, Drew Barrymore, or...
...

nightengale7 says "Absolutely ridiculous and unbelievable." about Demon Seed

The only thing "demonic" about it is the sadistic nature of the people who made this abomination of a movie. Julie Christie's character Susan is trapped in her house with a super-smart AI (artificial intelligence) that decides it needs to have a baby with her. Pretty stupid, right? Oh wait, it gets worse! The AI builds itself this crazy diamond/pyramid thing that it uses to defend itself and impregnate Susan, who allows this to happen because the AI (named Proteus) threatens to "kill a thousand children if that's what it takes to have its own child." Wow, how amazingly stupid is that? So, in 28 days Susan gives birth to a "baby" so that Proteus can live on in human form, because the people who created it are now afraid of it (can we say duh?) and shut it down. I suppose if one was on some hallucinogenic drugs the trippy "special effects" might seem cool, but other than that, it is sheer torture to sit through Demon Seed.
...

nightengale7 says "Project Runway is (what else?)...FIERCE!" about Project Runway

Project Runway is, in my opinion, the best "reality" show on television. First of all, I LOVE fashion and seeing the next big thing, which is exactly what project runway is about. The characters are always fun to watch, since fashion people are notoriously eccentric. You will see everything from featherd phoenixes flapping down the runway to graceful glittering gowns worthy of the oscars. I have yet to have a favorite win the show, but I'm still holding out hope! If nothing else, it's worth it just to see Heidi Klum and the beautiful and sometimes extremely odd outfits and styles she sports. Basically, tune in and "watch what happens!"...

nightengale7 says "An inspired montage of love, war, deceit, jealousy, and beauty." about Vanity Fair

Vanity Fair is a gorgeous view into the lives of the rich, the poor, the privileged, and the deprived. It's visually stunning with contrasts of rich, lush colors, fabrics, and architecture with the dreary, dirty, and coarse that was so much of England in that time. Reese Witherspoon is perfect for the part of the devious and calculating Becky Sharp, a girl who has been jaded by the world and makes it her mission to climb the social ladder to the very top so that she can glare down at all of those who, in her mind anyway, made her life a living hell. Becky is contrasted beautifully with the gentle personage of her "dear" friend Amelia Sedley who, even when faced with extreme poverty and destitution, remains a constant friend who insists on seeing the best in people, even if she can't see their true hearts and motives. Although the story revolves around these two women and their varied responses to the hardships of life, there are many more lovable and detestable characters that are......

nightengale7 says "Good plot, good romance, great comedy." about Blue Smoke

Blue Smoke was very entertaining, I really like the characters. I would definitely like to have my very own Bowen Goodnight (such a romance novel name, isn't it?) but then again charming, hunky, funny carpenters are a little hard to come by. Anyway, the whole thing was great except (WARNING: SPOILER) that Bo was so into Reena for the whole book, his dream girl and all that and then when Reena mentions marriage, he totally balks. I felt it was out of character for him and the Reena would have been more likely to get cold feet at the mention of marriage, instead of the other way around. Other than that, good stuff....

nightengale7 says "Hilariously charming and full of love and laughter!" about Angels Fall

I had never read a Nora Roberts novel before, but a friend loaned me this one and told me to read it. I am so glad I did! It was a great read from the first page to the last, and all that talk about gourmet food really made it a winner for me (I love fine foods, it's a weakness of mine). If you haven't read it, do it now! (Seriously, right now, go on, scoot!) Best of all, there weren't any raunchy sex scenes like you find with some romance novelists. It was subtle but yet descriptive enough that you got the general idea, instead of every gruesome detail....
