mommabirdi says "Big bird attitude in a compact bundle of loving feathers!" about Pet Parakeet/Budgie

Wow! What can I say about budgies? They are definitely a marvelous and fascinating pet. I have 2 budgies now (my other 3 have passed away from old age ailments in the past 4 years). These guys may be little in size, but they are big in spirit. Budgies make great bird companions as they are naturally curious/friendly. But don't let them fool you! Those little beaks can still deliver quite the whallop! Budgies can pick up language quickly and can have a very large vocabulary. My Boyd knew all the other birds by name and when he visited with them would call them by name and add "birdie" to it. He loved his Girlie Birdie, and his Kiwi Birdie very much.

Budgies are very energetic and absolutely love to play. Provide them with a roomy cage (I like to use one that is 18X18X22 or bigger. They also enjoy millet spray like it is a gourmet item. Try to get them on a pelleted diet. But since these little fellows are seed/grain eaters in the wild, I recommend a 50/50 diet...
...

mommabirdi says "Nice mix of seed" about 3-D Pet Products Cockatiel Food

I often use the 3D brand of bird seeds. I find that it has a great mix of seeds. The seed has very little "dust" in it so this is the main one that I use. I also love the container. The screw off lid is priceless! I often use these empty containers for other uses around the house. You can find them in my kitchen holding pasta; in my sewing room holding all sorts of treasures (buttons, snaps, etc.); in my husband's room holding food for his hamster. So you can sort of recycle this package as you can see. My birds also like it when I unscrew the lid and hold it in front of them. They love to dive in and forage. Of course, more seed goes onto the floor than into their crops, but at least they are having fun! ...

mommabirdi says "Good as a treat...very nutritious" about Lafeber Nutriberries

I have 3 budgies that love this nutriberries. Yes, nutriberries are a complete diet but....... my budgies will not eat the little pellets that are in these. They will pick around them and only gnaw on the molasses and seeds. I have to smash them up in order for them to eat the berries. If I leave them whole, then they will use them for "toys!" I kept wondering what a small thumping noise was when I first fed the berries. Then I saw! One of the girls was picking the berry up and tossing it; and she was having quite a bit of fun at it, too, I might add. But in all seriousness, these are a good treat food for your birds. If you have the smaller birds that don't hold the food in their foot, then I recommend that you smash the berry into a treat cup for them to eat. But don't depend on them eating the pellets out of the berries. Some birds will eat the pellet. Mine won't! ...

mommabirdi says "Healthy, tasty treat." about Lafeber Avi-Cakes

Lafeber's Avicakes are a topnotch food. Not only do these wonderful little square "cakes" contain good nutrition, but they also are wonderful to use as treats with my birds regular diet. My birds (3 budgies) love these little seed/pellet cakes. These 3 little budgies are on a seed diet as I had no success in converting them to pellets; but they will gobble these down. They think they are getting a junk-food snack but really it is quite nutritous for them as the cakes contain all the necessary vitamins/minerals. I crumble them up in their food dish for them as these 3 little guys are very spoiled!!
...

mommabirdi says "Some of the safest bird toys around." about J.W. Pet Company Insight Activitoys - Bird Mirror

I absolutely love this company's toys as do my budgies! These toys actually involve the bird in play. I had a most beloved cockatiel die because of lead poisioning from some of the toys that he had had from his previous family. My vet went over some of the safe materials/toys to use for my other birds. I went to the pet store and found 4 Activtoys and purchased them. I showed them to my vet and she loved them. These toys are mainly made of plastic. So there is no worry of lead. The only concern I have with this line is the bells that they use. I am unsure of the material that they use in them. So I just simply remove the bells from the toys. My birds favorite Activitoy from JW Pets is the red double axis mirrors. All four of the budgies are crazy for this one. They will spin the mirrors and fuss! So cute. This company also makes some of the best perches for your birds as well. They are tapered to promote good feet/leg health. Check this company out; I highly......
