mdgomm says "I smell a rat" about Ratatouille

My 25 year old son is a cook and I thought the movie looked cute on the trailer, but get real. A rat that tells somebody what to cook by pulling his hair. We already know it isn't real, why don't they just make the rat talk. It would have been more appropriate. Then they shut them down only to have them reopen elsewhere. The funny thing was there was a similar situation at a real restaurant (award winning restaurant shut down because of rat infestation) recently. My elementary age kids said P-stinking-U and I agree....

mdgomm says "A great resource guide" about Prescription for Nutritional Healing

I purchased this book used and I have never been disappointed that I picked it up. It is usually the most helpful book when looking for ideas on easing pain and discomfort of ilness or injury. I like the fact that it lists both food and nutritional supplements to help with a disorder. It is my most valued medical reference book on the shelf....

mdgomm says "I didn't know she was so interesting" about Miss Potter

This movie was very interesting. I never realized that Beatrix Potter had had such a sad life. Her family didn't really think much of her and did not encourage her magnificent talent. She was disappointed in love at least once and lived alone much of her life. Her artistic genius has left the world a better place and I guess in hind sight most true artists do their best work not only in spite of but because of their personal struggles. I am thankful to Miss Zellweger for her insite in bringing this story to the big screen. She has truely brought Beatrix Potter to life for us all and encouraged us to reread this well-known, but often downplayed, classic collection of children's literature....

mdgomm says "A nice place to visit, but . . . ." about Country Inn & Suites By Carlson, Grand Rapids South, MI - GRAND RAPIDS, MI

My husband and I have stayed in other Country Inns and have really enjoyed our stay there so when our daughter turned 16, we decided to have a sleepover at the local Country Inn for her and her friends. We thought it would be nice for the girls to be able to swim and visit in the luxury of a hotel for the afternoon and evening. Well, when we arrived at the hotel, the pool was closed because of a problem. The girls were able to get in the pool briefly later in the evening, but the next morning they once again went to the pool to find it closed for repair. I felt that fact that the pool was down made splurging on a hotel very disappointing. I believe that when there is a problem such as this and it is brought to the attention of the hotel that that is the reason you have come to this hotel, a discount should be given or a voucher to return for free at a later time. That would be service. This happened to us one other time at a different hotel and there the pool never did open.......

mdgomm says "A wide variety of fun things to do with and for your family" about Family Fun Magazine

My daughter and I love to read Family Fun Magazine. They publish recipes for April Fool's Day that look like something they are not. I think that those are the most fun and different. They give simple, low-cost ideas for educational games you can play with your family and fun party games as well as vacation ideas for the whole family. Family Fun Magazine is a bargain and is greatly appreciated in libraries and doctor's offices....

mdgomm says "A classic for children and adults" about Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day: A Musical

I love reading this book with my kids. I never heard of Alexander until I entered college and took an oral interpretation class. One of the students used "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day" for one of his assignments. I was hooked. I have read this to all of my children, 11 of them, and have the book on video. The phrase, "No good, very bad, day" comes up frequently in our daily conversation and I must say this book has made a very strong impact on both my and my children's lives....

mdgomm says "a pantry staple--yummy" about Kraft Jet-Puffed Marshmallow Creme

Just seeing this product on the shelf makes me salivate. I grew up with grilled fluffernutter sandwiches. Just put Jet-puffed marshmallow Creme on one slice of bread and peanut butter on the other. Now put butter on the outside of both slices like when you make a grilled cheese sandwich. Grill on a hot pan until toasty brown and indulge. This is the ultimate PB and ? sandwich. You will never be without Kraft's Jet-puffed Marshmallow Creme again, I swear....

mdgomm says "Easy and low fat way to make lunch" about Hot Pockets Lean Pockets - Deli Style Ham and Cheddar

I love buying Hot Pockets Lean Pockets and stock up every time I can find them on special. My husband loves them, especially the Ham, his favorite meat. He takes them to work where he heats them up fresh for lunch in his office microwave. It isn't good for all the time but it really makes him feel special.

My college students like them as well. They can heat them at school--microwave available or heat them at home and eat on the run.

My younger boys hope that I will have some available if they have to stay home alone.

I love keeping them in the freezer for those times when I need to put a lunch together when I am still half asleep. It's so much easier than trying to make a sandwich at 5 a.m.
...

mdgomm says "Great for the cooking hobbyist or young cook--no cut fingers" about Pampered Chef Cutting Edge Food Chopper

I bought the food chopper because I hate chopping onions and it helps things to go quicker so that I don't 'cry' as much. The biggest benefit I have found is that I don't cut my fingers like I do when trying to cut vegetables with a knife. I also have young children and I can let them help chop up veggies without fear of them getting cut.

My favorite thing to chop is nuts. When I put them in my vitamix the get too small, but with the food chopper I can chop, check, and chop more until I think they are just right.

The biggest problem I have found is that often it doesn't chop as cleanly as I would like and the veggies get a little juicy, but when using them in soup or meatloaf or something similar, it doesn't matter. Not good for salad veggies.
...
