I've stayed at the Fairmont San Jose to attend conferences twice now. They have a very polite and helpful staff.

The dining options both at the hotel and in the surrounding area are great, with it right next door to a McCormick & Schmick's Seafood resturant and a Starbucks a block away.

There hotel is split into 2 seperate buildings connected by both an outside courtyard and a 2nd floor enclosed walkway. The tower nextdoor is newer and rooms that are both nicer and larger. I'd aim for that if you can, but the main building is great too.

A cab from the San Jose Airport (SJC) will run about $25 and there is a rental car agency in the building....
