mapache says "Gaudi at his best" about Parc Guell

I lived in Spain for several years and was able to visit Barcelona a number of times. I love the modernismo architecture and there are many places in Barcelona designed by Gaudi but Guell Park is my favorite. It is amazing in every way. The serpentine mosaic bench is just astounding. The entire park holds so many varying examples of his work. Even if you are not a fan of Gaudi, this place is an amazing display of imagination and a unique place in the world. It is NOT to be missed....

mapache says "A slice of their Gateau Breton is pure heaven" about Patisserie Poupon Washington DC

A couple of years ago a French friend who lives in the area came to our house for a dinner party and brought a cake from Patisserie Poupon. It was a Gateau Breton which I woud describe as a buttery, rich, dessert--somewhere between a short bread and a pound cake. It immediately became my favorite dessert and for special events we will buy one of these amazing cakes. I have tried to duplicate the dessert at home in my own oven and although it turns out okay, it is nowhere near as good as at the patisserie. A slice of the gateau along with a cup of tea is a perfect thing. By the way, our French friend feels that the Patisserie Poupon is the only authentic French Patisserie in the D.C. area....

mapache says "Lucky for us, Scaredy Squirrel is Back!" about Scaredy Squirrel Makes a Friend

After reading the original, "Scaredy Squirrel", I immediately bought this sequel to follow Scaredy Squirrel on his adventures. This cautious but adorable squirrel prepares to make a friend. He determines that any toothed animal would NOT be a safe friend and thus the adventure begins. At the school where I work, every teacher and student who as read this book as been utterly enthralled. THe author, Melanie Watt, is an extremeley clever and talented artist and author and she deserves great success. ALthough the original book is my favorite, this one is a real charmer as well.
...

mapache says "The Greatest Story Ever Told!" about Scaredy Squirrel

Scaredy Squirrel is an amazing new book. I am a teacher and was delighted to find this in our school library. The illustrations are big, bold, and beautiful. Scaredy Squirrel is adorable, vulnerable, charming, and my new favorite book character. My third graders LOVE this book and so do I. I have not been this excited about a book (children's book or otherwise) in some time. I am buying several copies of these for gifts--mostly for kids--but adults will be amused by the humor of this fabulous author, Melanie Watt. I predict this to be a big hit and I think that Scaredy Squirrel will soon be a household name. I hope so....

mapache says "Thick and rich--very tasty!" about Trader Joe's Greek Yogurt

I love yogurt but find that most varieties of American yogurt are not so rich tasting. I like Greek yogurt but generally find it to be expensive. I was delighted to find the Greek style yogurt at Trader Joe's. It is much less expensive than varieties at other stores. I first tried the regular which was great but then tried the fat free variety to try and cut calories and it was also delicious. IT is so thick and rich tasting. My husband, not a big yogurt eater, doesn't care for it --he says it is sour and tastes like sour cream--so now I use it in place of sour cream. I like to eat it with just a bit of honey on it to sweeten it up. It is a real treat!...
