mama2six says "Homeschooling in Montana is easier than you may think." about Homeschooling in Montana - Anywhere,MT

After 10 years of homeschooling our children, I can't imagine it being any other way.

Homeschooling in the state of Montana is actually a lot easier than other places we have lived. You can find detailed laws at Home School Legal Defense, but I will give an overview below.

Summary of Montana Home School Law
For an official copy of the law, contact your local county superintendent's office.
*This summary does not constitute legal advice.*

1. Compulsory attendance ages: 7 years of age or older prior to the first day of school and the later of the following dates: (a) the child's 16th birthday; (b) the day of completion of the work of the 8th grade.
2. You must provide 720 hours per year for grades 1-3 and 1,080 hours per year for grades 4-12.
3. You must teach (but not limited to) the same basic instructional program as the public schools.
4. You must notify the your county superintendent of schools of your intent to home school each year. (We strongly recommend in writing, always keeping a copy...
...

mama2six says "Tricia makes books come alive, you won't want to put it down!" about Tricia Goyer - Dawn Of A Thousand Nights: A Story Of Honor

I love all of Tricia's books, but Dawn of a Thousand Nights is my favorite. The characters are so well researched and thought out, they just come alive when you read. I am a huge history buff and until I read this series I wasn't very well read on World War II. Reading Tricia's books had made me want to know more about the people and events. I am even having my home schooled daughters (ages 11 & 14) read these books for part of their History class - they are that good and realistic! They make History fun. After reading this (from cover to cover without putting it down!), I went and got a copy for my husband's grandfather who served in the Pacific Theater during the war. A great book and a great series by an awesome writer!...

mama2six says "So funny, laughed so hard it hurt!" about Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House - 1948

I love Cary Grant! I also enjoy watching old movies and am always looking for a good one. Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House is one of the few that I have in my DVD collection and pull out from time to time. You can watch it again and again and it never gets old. Adorable Cary Grant is timeless and witty Myrna Loy is wonderful opposite him in this delightful old film. From the bathroom scene in their apartment to the meeting with the architect to the well drilling and old Mr. Zuckerman, I promise you won't stop laughing. Unfortunately, they just don't make movies like they used to!...

mama2six says "Julie makes me laugh and cry - at the same time! " about Julie Barnhill - One Tough Mother: It's Time to Step Up and Be the Mom

This is one of the best books that I have read in a long time! Julie is funny, yet so full of truth in her writing. She is one of the few 'parenting experts' that doesn't make me feel like I have failed and totally messed up my kids! I love how she shares her personal experiences and isn't afraid to let people see her weaknesses. I promise you will laugh at her wit, cry with your failures and yet receive enough encouragement and practical parenting methods so that you know you can do better. With Julie's help you can Be the Mom! (Do check out her other books too - you will be glad that you did!)...

mama2six says "MOPS connects moms and provides practical resources to help them" about MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers)

MOPS was just what I needed when I joined a local group. I was a stay at home mom expecting my 5th child and needed not only to get out of the house, but someone to talk to and who would listen to me. I found all that and more at MOPS.

The MOPS to Mom Membership is a great value at only $20. I receive MOMSense Magazine bi-monthly and enjoy every page. It refreshes me and encourages me in my mothering role. The coupon for Antiquities photographs saved me $20 at my local photo shoot - the cost of my membership. I enjoy the scrap-booking pages and song downloads as well. My kids love Go Fish! so anything by them is a great bonus.

What I love most about MOPS is that it meets me in so many places and so many ways. Not only do I belong to a great group of moms that meet regularly, I can find help in the middle of the night at the website or order a book that I need at the MOPShop. MOPS Convention every year is a great way to take time away to learn how to be a better mom and spend time growing...
...
