lithguy says "Worth it" about NordicTrack 1500c Treadmill

The nordic track 1500c is a very nice treadmill. We shopped around for 2-3 months and noticed that the ones we used in the gym were all 60 inch tracks with atleast a 3 HP motor. Anything less than a 3 hp motor had a thin tread causing heavy vibration- in short - just was not stable enough for high speed jogging. This was a fantastic buy at ~800 $ from Costco. Was more than 1200 $ at Sports Authority and >900 $ at Sams Club - (we're in business to take your money). Make sure you DO have a pickup truck to haul this bad boy and also that you have atleast 2 people to help you unload. The box was 325 lbs and even after breaking it open, the main piece was 200 lbs and we had to haul it upstairs. As long as you hvae 3 people to help carry it, you'll be OK. the tool was really good !!!...

lithguy says "Good facilities, horrible class sizes, worse parking" about Portland State University

Portland State University is a great small university spread out in the middle of downtown portland. That's it's biggest charm and biggest failing. Parking is such a nightmare that classes can be 1/2 hr late while you try to find a spot. Also the student staff in Neuberger hall is not at all friendly. Apparently english is the third language for most of these folks and they looks at you like you're from another planet everytime you try to register or submit any sort of official paperwork. The professors for the Electrical Engineering dept are very competent and helpful as are the MBA professors - PSU has a reputation for liberal arts majors, not for engineering/MBA's but the potential is definitnely there....

lithguy says ""Chase" it only in paperback" about The chase

A slightly interesting yet super cheesy novel - the kind you expect to read when the novellist is "franchising" his name on the cover to other authors for some quick bucks from the pockets of the reader. The premise is defintiely interesting along with the descriptions of all the robberies -however the "supercop" angle is super cheesy as is the locomotive chase at 90 mph - this is 1906, not 1930. Vintage cars running from San Fransisco to San Diego in 12 hrs at 80 mph is hard enough in 2006, let alone in 1906. Willing suspensions of disbelief are required throughout the book. The story becomes so predictable it's like condensing a made for TV movie into a book - save your $$ and some trees and borrow from your local library....

lithguy says "Worth the $$$" about I Am Legend (2007)

Very well made adaptation of Matheson's "Legendary" novella. Full disclosure - I've read the novel and found it to be very gut wrenching. The movie adaptation is excellent - very taut with no frippery. The warehouse scene was pretty freaky even if the CGI was obvious. For those who've read the book - you almost expect a couple of traps. I was hoping for some interaction with the victims rather than the CGI sort - however, still very well made adaptation of the novella....

lithguy says "Not worth the $$$ but will work fine anyway" about NetGear WGR614v5 Wireless-G Router

The netgear 614 is a good router for short range setups. The cons include bad wireless printer setups - especially if you have an HP. They dont like each other. Other cons include a 30 feet or less rage before the connectivity levels start to fall below 60 %. The pros are ease of setup and fast abilty to surf with a laptop etc. Does not like Vista !!! be warned....
