It has wonderful range so that I can use it both inside and outside to listen for my little one's cries. I am able to turn the volume down, yet I can still clearly hear my little girls cries. We have never heard any static or interference. The night light is not bright enough to be worth it. I wish it were brighter so that I didn't have to worry about another night light.
