From the moment you get on board and see the bright purple uniforms, to the high-quality food served throughout the flight, there is no parallel with US long-haul flights. In addition, it has a very convenient hub at Newark, NJ, with quick cheap train access to New York City. Overall I highly recommend this airline.... Nonetheless, when you book with them, you are taking a great chance that you will be bumped off your flight or that your flight will be greatly delayed. Your rights as a customer are very limited with Spirit, and they are notorious for having poor customer service, but they get away with it by charging low fares. If anything at all matters to you other than the price, do not book with them. I had a bad experience on their Atlantic City to Cartagena flight, and the rest is history.... For one, the frequent flier mile program is widely viewed as the best one among the 6 legacy carriers. It offers the most flexibility, has the least extra fees, and has the most ways to earn miles. In addition, its hubs are in less crowded locations like Detroit, Minneapolis, Memphis, and Tokyo, allowing for smoother connections. As such, I highly recommend Northwest Airlines.... My baggage was recently lost flying from Miami to JFK, and the baggage claims person told me that it "happens all the time." The employees have a very nonchalant attitude about baggage, and it took me 2 weeks to finally receive my baggage. In addition, American Airlines was the first to begin charging extra money for the FIRST checked baggage. In summary, I recommend that you avoid checking luggage on American Airlines and perhaps consider flying other airlines....
