ksjr362 says "Romero again captures the culture through the dead." about Diary of the Dead

George Romero is back to doing what he does best.

The independent production of "Diary of the Dead" is the most refreshing and adept film since Romero's "Dawn of the Dead." The king of the zombies returns to the beginning and re-imagines his saga in a media saturated world.

Where "Night of the Living Dead" reflected the turmoil and tensions of the 1960s and "Dawn of the Dead" was a knock on the consumer driven 1970s; "Diary of the Dead" is almost satirical in its portrayal of a world with too much in formation -- and too many lies.

Presented as a documentary, Diary goes back to the beginning of the epidemic. At the same time it manages to capture the realities of post 9/11 America. Government lies, media bias and political correctness initially hide the fact that the dead are coming back to life and eating the living.

But this is no "Cloverfield" or "Blair Witch Project" clone. In typical Romero fashion, he goes further integrating web video like YouTube and footage from surveillance......

ksjr362 says "Really thought I would hate this, but now I'm mad." about Aliens in America

I honestly thought I was going to hate this show. I'm pretty picky, especially with comedies, but I figured the concept was somewhat different so I would check it out.

By the end of the first episode I was completely hooked and have to say that any preconceived notions I may have had were eradicated by the third episode.

Who would think the spawn of the married UPN and WB would produce a relevant TV show that provides laughter, insight and a little lesson about life, diversity and understanding.

That said, if the writer's strike kills 'Aliens in America', there's going to be some very peeved, loyal fans.

It is a shame that just as the show was hitting it's stride by episode 13, the well ran dry. I think anyone who loves this show is eagerly awaiting its return. And I think they sincerely hope that the forced hiatus doesn't allow one of these awful "reality" shows to sink one the few intelligent shows produced for the 2007 season....

ksjr362 says "Why was it so hard to see this movie?" about Across the Universe 2007

From the moment the previews appeared the search began.

It was well worth it. "Across the Universe" is an amazing film that grabs you from the first second and doesn't let go until the last. A visual masterpiece, this may be the greatest use of Beatles music since "All This and WWII."

The sad part is this movie was not distributed widely enough, leaving viewers in smaller cities struggling to see what all the buzz was about. And now that it is coming out on DVD, hopefully the MOR moguls that run on-demand channels will offer the opportunity to many to be able to watch this movie.

If anything, do not watch this in scan and pan. The full wide-screen effect is essential for true enjoyment.

Beyond the Beatles, the story flows and the characters become much more than references to various names from songs. They become real, believable and human. To not shed a tear during "Let it Be" or to not feel the outrage of emotion about useless war during "I Want You/She's So Heavy," is to......
