jolocol says "Dedication is everything" about Homeschooling

Homeschooling is a fantastic way for children to learn beyond the confines of the classroom. It can be safer than many public and some private school programs. Being an educator, I have worked with children who have come from homeschool situations. Hence my sentence, dedication is everything. If parents take the job of education seriously and have competent skills (not education, skills) the children can learn well. However, I have had students who had no comprehension in the third grade and lacked the basic math skills because the parent didn't know what to do, was working outside the home and had a lot of work that had to be accomplished each day. On the other hand, I have worked with students who had a dedicated program, a time established that the parents seldom allowed to be interrupted and they took their work very seriously. The children flourished. If you are considering homeschooling, look seriously at your lifestyle and truly determine which of these parents you......

jolocol says "What an imagination" about Skippyjon Jones (series)

Skippyjon Jones is one fantastic, imaginative, creative, captivating children's story. One of my granddaughters is so in love with this book series that she cannot wait to hear the stories. As I work with children for a living, I love finding stories that just entertain and spark imaginations. These books are full of imagination and fun, fun fun. If you have a child in your life from three to ten, these books are a great way to share time because you, too, will enjoy it. And if you have older children, don't be surprised if you find them discreetly listening too!...

jolocol says "Cost effective and fun" about Netflix

We have been using Netflix for the past several months. We have had nothing but wonderful experiences. I am in the lowest level of membership as my time is limited. It is wonderful to check the mail and have a movie that I picked out in minutes some time ago and then did not wait in line to pay. They have a good selection and, with instant viewing, we occasionally watch a movie on the spur of the moment. We have also watched some shorts that I would never have paid to see. The price is less than I would pay if I went to the video store and spent my valuable time picking out a movie. ...

jolocol says "Reality bites-but this isn't reality" about Sicko

After watching Sicko I found myself wondering how people can swallow these statements of fiction as factual. Does anybody wonder how they just sailed into Cuba with no questions, received such great care and were hailed by the fire fighters association? I am wondering, in a country where the people can, just now, "stay in hotels", what questions this new right might bring up about the great health care they receive. Also, interesting that the fire fighters just knew they were there. Smelled of set-up to me. Secondly, after just reading about the Canadian health care system in a Canadian magazine, I am wondering why they are not as positive and upbeat as the one American woman who crossed the border and received instant, wonderful care. It seems residents have to be on a waiting list. This mocumentary smacked of set-ups and deception aimed at making the U.S. look bad and the non-democratic countries look sweet. I like my documentaries to share facts, not one man's fiction. ......

jolocol says "A grandma's dream" about Cosco High Rise Booster Car Seat

My daughter bought this when her daughter was five. It worked in my Ranger truck with two adults. With the help of the regular seat belt, she was both comfortable and safe. She can see out the window with more ease. Transferring it is easy. You just need to take care to install it carefully....

jolocol says "The book was better...." about The Proper Care & Feeding of Husbands

I cannot tolerate listening to her on the radio because rudeness is not my thing. When my sister-in-law was raving about the book I decided I could not support Laura. I went to Barnes and Noble and read it very quickly. She does have some good points. It is good to make your husband feel special and loved, adored, appreciated, etc... However, she seems to maintain that all the happiness of the husband and the success of the family depends on the woman and the woman alone. I beg to differ! I wonder, if Laura treats her husband like she treats the women who call in, and accuses him the way she accuses womankind in her book, would she have a successful, happy marriage? It seems that, in society, we all need to be respectful, kind and appreciative to others. If everyone did it, the world would be a better place. Seems to me the same thing would be true in the marriage setting. I know it is in mine!...

jolocol says "Perfect program with tons of support" about AIU - Instructional Technology

After years and years and years of not getting my masters because of other obligations I found AIU. What a blessing! The program was only 10 months long. It was hard work and I often put in 20 hours a week getting everything done. The fact that it was not taking me two or more years made it possible. The teachers were fantastic. They answered e-mails quickly, understood when there was a problem getting work done on time (my honeymoon for example) and they were experts in their fields. The people in the office were not always easy to contact immediately, but they always called back. I had a fantastic time learning and felt very accomplished when I graduated. John Glenn spoke at my on-line graduation!...
