jayjayt says "Best experience we've had in over a year of flying!!" about Northwest Airlines

Okay, living in the Fargo, ND area of the world limits the airlines (rather severely) that I can travel on. In the past year or so, we have been traveling on United Airlines and had some of the worst experiences known to man while moving about the country. Late, late, late. No crew because a crew-member called in sick: flight canceled. Flight canceled because they had a flat tire!! Flight canceled for some reason and my wife was booked stand-by on the next (FULL) flight! Individual employees tried to make these experiences better, but other individual employees couldn't have cared less!

Recently... last month, my wife and I traveled round-trip via Northwest Airlines to Hawaii. We were ready for another bad experience. Didn't happen! The flights were on time, if not a tad early. Our luggage arrives without damage and our nerves weren't the least bit frazzled!

Thank You Northwest! It was (finally) a pleasure!!

I need to travel again in December and am already booked on United. Sigh! I'll keep...
...

jayjayt says "Yumm!" about Starbucks Pike Place Roast Coffee

Gotta say... I AMa coffee lover! I recently tried this new blend from Starbucks and got hooked. It's not as potent as some brews I've had, especially from Starbucks... but this is a great coffee.

Nice body, nice bite, nice aroma.... well, it's just plain NICE!

They were having a sale the last time I was at the local Starbucks and I bought a 5-pound bag. THAT'S gotta tell you something!
...

jayjayt says "For the price, a very fine coffee!" about Folgers Colombian Coffee

Overall, this is a very fine coffee. I have to admit, I was very pleasantly surprised, but this is oveall yummy!

Even better is this same blend and company in whole bean variety. Grinding your own may be a hassle, but the Folger's Columbian Blend is one of the best I've ever tried in this price range... no, make that the BEST.

You won't be disappointed!

...

jayjayt says "A real disappointment!" about Folgers Black Silk

When I first discovered Folger's Black Silk, I thought "Wow! Folger's has stepped up!" Boy, was I wrong. It was a step down. I bought 2 large containers and would not but it again.

It's just plain dark and bland! There's very little flavor and NO bite at all.

It's pretty... but worthless!
...

jayjayt says "For the cost... not bad!" about Folgers Gourmet Supreme Coffee

OK... for the cost, Folger's Gourmet Supreme is a pretty good overall coffee. That being said, there are better ones out there for the money. Oddly enough, Folgers makes one or two of them.

Back to the review. The gourmet supreme is a nice, smooth, very drinkable coffee. There's no real kick, so if you don't like a kick, you'll be very happy with this, especially at the cost!

Now, a better choice, from the same company is Folger's Columbian Roast. Again, and for the money, this is one very fine brew. If you can find the beans and grind them yourself... VERY fine!
...

jayjayt says "Bunn Rocks!" about Bunn Coffee Maker - GRX-B 10-Cup

From the picture, this one looks like my Bunn (coffee-maker). I've had mine for well over 10 years and finally, yesterday, the little red light that tells me the warmer plate is on burned out!

My only problem with it is that if the coffee is too finely ground and you pour the whole glug of water in at once, the filters can't keep up with it. Problem: is it the coffee? Is it the filter? Is it my Bunn? If you pour the water in half at a time, there's no problem.

The coffee is ready much faster than any other type of coffee-maker I've tried!

Would I buy another Bunn again? In a hearbeat!
...

jayjayt says "Wow! A truly horrific film!!" about Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Well, first of all, the company that runs our local movie-plex wouldn't run Sweeney Todd, because they said they couldn't make enough money (who knows...). Then, a couple of months later, they ran it. I waited for the DVD. I was a little angry because I really, really wanted to see this film. I love Broadway musicals; I really like Tim Burton; I really like Johnny Depp!! I have another tie to the original movie, as well. Based on the old, old movie: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street... my Mom went to see it when she was a kid and got into lots of trouble from my Grampa (too much information).

Anyway, I popped the DVD into my player, as my wife exited to the upstairs stating she had no desire to see this movie. I settled back , the movie began and I was enthralled. It was dark and moody and mysterious and quirky. This was just prior to the first throat cutting scene. Okay, I got through that, imagining how they did this on Broadway. Then there was the next and the next and the next, ad nauseum....
...

jayjayt says "Sadly, there stuff was crud!!" about FTD

Okay, I have to be honest here. The experience I relate was from using FTD last Valentines Day, but in reading some of this years stories, it seems they haven't changed.

Customer service and satisfaction is very LOW on their list!

Last year, I ordered a nice (NICE??) boquet of roses for my wife! They arrived looking like something from The Adams Family (look it up). They were quite dead looking.

When I e-mailed my dissatisfaction, it was not answered. When I tracked down a phone number and called, it was, of course, all my fault for living out in the country (why did they sell them to me then?).

They agreed to send some tulips to replace the roses. They too looked like the rear end of a mis-spent life.

My best bet is to simply never order from them again and to tell people when they ask, exactly what they'll get!

...

I have been with State Farm Insurance, utilizing multiple carriers, since the age of 16. I can honestly say that I have never had a complaint. When I have had a claim (and I have them for homeowners insurance, as well) they always come through.

Their rates may be a little higher, though I really don't even know this, because whatever I am paying, I wouldn't change based on how well they have treated me!
...

jayjayt says "Geez... I hated this movie!!" about Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan

I LOVE great movies... I even LOVE just good movies...

I hated this drek. It was stupid and embarrassing and not remotely funny.

I have to say, I turned the video off after about 25 minutes. I'm so very happy that I didn't pay full fare to see this in the theatre.

It was funny to me that so many film critics thought this was in the top 10 movies of last year. Apparently, getting a job as a film critic means to check your brains at the door.

This was just plain crap.

(Now, I expect to hear that if only I had stayed with it to the end, I would have been rewarded. That's kind of like going fishing, catching nothing except malaria from mosquitoes and hearing that if I had just fished here last week, I would have caught tons of award winning fish.)
...

jayjayt says "Too late... Damn!" about Journeyman

Well, sadly, I'm too late. Another great show has bit the dust, with no apparent hope of revival.

Journeyman is/was a great sci-fi/time travel show with, more importantly, wonderful family interactions that were screaming to be explored. Relationships between Dan and his wife Katie were beautifully acted and filmed. The initial disbelief followed by acceptance that Katie showed gave me faith that exceptionally strained relationships can work, if people believe in each other and really, truly love each other. I saw it here.

One might draw a sililarity between Journeyman and another GREAT show, QUANTUM LEAP. Yep, hooked there as well.

I'm not the media's example of a geek: living in my parents basement, eating twinkies and longing for space travel. Geez, I hate that. I'm a professional person, involved in healthcare who hates sports and loves a good drama or comedy (without fart jokes). The term "reality tv" couldn't be further from the truth. A good/great sci-fi show challenges the mind and...
...

jayjayt says "Nothing MAKES you quit smoking!" about CHANTIX

I am a tobacco counselor and have been helping people quit smoking for about 5 years. Until Chantix came along, all we had was NRT (nicotine replacement therapy) and Bupropion (Wellbutrin or Zyban). Chantix was and is a welcome addition to the tough task of quitting smoking.

The key here is nicotine, one of the most addictive drugs in the world. Chantix goes after the receptors that scream for nicotine: fools them into thinking they're getting it, then goes on to actually block the effect of nicotine.

Studies from the company initially stated 44 -60% quit rates. Quit rates in our community are much higher.

Bottom line, this may not work unless you are really motivated to quit. Most things in your life work better with motivation and quitting smoking or chewing tobacco is right up at the top.

My advice follow strict directions with your Chantix and LET it work. If you don'y just quit on schedule, keep with it. Many places recommend small amounts of 2mg nicotine gum if and when you get down...
...
