in-the-city says "worst customer service i've ever encountered!" about Bank of America

My husband and I are desperate to get out of Bank of America but continue to be frustrated by Bank of America's incompetent customer service that first wouldn't help us resolve a problem, and now won't help us close our accounts to get away from the problem. They have three times in one year charged us for fees incorrectly. Yes, the fees were eventually removed, but only after multiple phone conversations. We've tried going to the branch in-person, where at least the people are nicer, but the ridiculous system BOA has set up doesn't let live in-person bankers conduct some transactions! Back to the phone, back to waiting, back to losing interest while they delay refunding a fee. Furthermore, when we tried to end our ACH (automatic debit) withdrawals now that we're leaving the bank, BOA has again screwed up and has continued to debit our account even when our condo association has told them not to keep sending checks and tried to refuse the money. —

I won't go on with the...

in-the-city says "great deals on good books--and free shipping to boot!" about Barnes&Noble.com

A serious book-lover, married to an avid reader, we buy a lot of books in my house. I always check the big sites (Barnes & Noble, Amazon, and occasionally a few others) and purchase our books wherever they are cheapest overall, including shipping, etc. I wait to purchase in a group of $25 or more so I get free shipping. I've been a B&N Member for a few years now. It costs about $30 for a year, and the discounts easily pay for themselves. Don't forget to use your member card not only on books and other items online, but books in the store, gifts and cards in the store, and even in the store cafes! — —

Also, in response to some of the other reviews--I've never had a problem receiving my books on time, in fact, I usually get them early. May be a Holidays-time problem for some of the reviewers. — —...

in-the-city says "get paid for the click of a button" about MyPoints

I prefer to earn Thank You Network points for my purchases when I can, so I don't use the "shopping" feature of MyPoints very often. However, in just a few minutes a day I can earn significant chunks of change by clicking on ads MyPoints sends me via email. And I actually like a lot of the stuff I find (e.g., View Points!). In fact, I'm getting 50 points for writing this review right now. If you use MyPoints like me (click thru emails everyday, rarely make purchases, occasionally fill out surveys, etc.), it takes a while for your points to build up, but after a few months you can enjoy dinner out "free" or redeem for a gift card for your next big purchase. I love it. —...

in-the-city says "Challenging classes with professors and students who care" about Calvin College

Calvin College is a wonderful place to get a liberal arts education. I loved the small class sizes, challenging work, great faculty interaction, and warm community. Extracurriculars are uniformly high quality and enjoyable--athletics, music, clubs, etc. The core curriculum is quite extensive, but I love that it introduces you to subjects you might never have encountered otherwise. If you're looking at professional schools (medicine, law, etc.) after graduation, Calvin students' acceptance rates into grad and professional schools are outstanding. I couldn't have been happier with my college choice. Calvin isn't all that prestigious nationally, but while attending a top-10 law school, if I wasn't sure before, I'm became confident then that my education was as good and sometimes better than what I would have received at a more nationally known institution. — —...
