ilovebutter says "best yet, i agree with them about bush" about Dixie Chicks - Taking The Long Way

Following in the bootsteps of other Nashville renegades who eventually outgrew country radio, the Dixie Chicks answer their critics with the unapologetic Taking the Long Way. Their seventh studio album embraces the depth and fury of classic rock while remaining true to the trio's Texas roots. Rather than try to forget about singer Natalie Maines' anti-Bush remarks of 2003 -- which landed them in hot water with a lot of station program directors -- the threesome declares it's still "Not Ready to Make Nice" and employs Semisonic guy Dan Wilson, Jayhawk Gary Louris and other unlikely contributors to help write hooks as strong as their own sentiments. Producer Rick Rubin enlists Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith and Heartbreakers keyboardist Benmont Tench and guitarist Mike Campbell to supply thick and gritty accompaniment that raises the urgency level of the album. If you've dismissed the Chicks or need a new reason to love them, the epic, howling longing of "Voice Inside My Head"...

ilovebutter says "great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" about Rascal Flatts - Me And My Gang

Even before the release of their fourth studio album "Me and My Gang", pop-country trio Rascal Flatts managed to snag top spot on the country singles chart with their hit "What Hurts the Most". The radio friendly love song sets the tone early and although the album fails to produce anything that can compete with it there are a number of surprises that keep the listener interested and waiting for more. — It's the songs separating the onslaught of slow paced inspirational and love songs that are the real gems on the album. The run away guilty pleasure is the hoe-down ready "Backwards", which is fun and uplifting even if it does epitomize every country music stereotype you can imagine. The title track gets top marks for trying with some fun funk undertones and Bon Jovi style voice alterations (think "Living on a Prayer") but is otherwise fairly weak, while the albums runner up "Yes I Do" provides the biggest surprise with a mellow reggae beat throughout the verses. — ...

ilovebutter says "ok, not my favorite" about Carrie Underwood - Carnival Ride

On "American Idol," Carrie Underwood was the country girl who never sounded comfortable trying to come on tough. Especially when she was belting Heart's "Alone," the top Idol pick for wussy girls copping an attitude. For her debut, Some Hearts, Underwood dabbled in mainstream pop, but the smash "Before He Cheats" proved her heart was all the way country; the way she sang about a rival singing "some white-trash version of Shania karaoke" was perfect. Carnival Ride is more country and therefore more confident. She goes for the girl-next-door cred long since given up by Faith Hill in uptempo gems like "The More Boys I Meet" ("The more I love my dog"). She rocks out in "Flat on the Floor," wailing, "You can't knock me off my feet/When I'm already on my knees." But the most fun is "Last Name," where she gets wasted and runs off to Vegas with a guy she doesn't know. "My mama would be so ashamed" now that sounds like the real Carrie....
