grace68 says "Marvelous." about As I Am by Alicia Keys

This is a remarkable cd. Several tracks speak to me. I appreciate music I am able to connect with---and this is such music. I enjoy Alicia Keys' music and have since album #1. She is gifted and her giftedness radiates through her music. I really appreciate the cornucopia of sound on this particular cd. She begins with a classical opening track and takes you on a journey through many genres throughout the cd. She is awesome.

Alicia Keys touches on a societal issue dear to my heart, "single mothers", mothers and women in general. Not only is the sound and technical aspects of the cd marvelous but even more noteworthy are the lyrics---she has something to say, and says it indeed in this work of art.

In a world where misogynistic lyrics blare throughout the countryside, it is refreshing to listen to music that has meaning and soul. This cd touched and affirmed things that reside in my innermost being...it spoke to me in a way that I am not often spoken to. I appreciate this young woman's craft...
...

grace68 says "Riveting." about American Gangster

American Gangster was an excellent film. The acting was superb as was the cinematography. Denzel Washington was tremendous as usual, although I continue to struggle with him "playing the bad guy". He is a phenomenal artist and his gift shines through no matter what role he plays.

The film covers many controversial topics and sheds light on the dark underworld of drug abuse and drug dealers. The film's depiction of Denzel Washingon's character forces one to come to grips with the human side of this otherwise monstrous individual. Afterall, his character is responsible for the deaths and addictions of many many people. This film reveals the reality behind the life style and what it entails. Although there is some glorification involved, it is not lasting.

Some of the scenes were quite graphic, particularly involving intravenous drug use. I would not recommend the film for children under 17 due to this content.

Overall, I would highly recommend the film with the age restrictions stated above....
...
