funkymom says "neat little camera" about Canon - Power Shot SD1000

The Canon SD1000 Digital elph is a pretty good camera. The pics are really top notch, and you can just point and shoot. I've had it for about a year and haven't even bothered to check out all the features, but every so often a situation pops up and I discover something new that it can do. It's really small and very handy. It comes with a wall charger and keeps a charge for a long time.
Sometimes there's a lag between when you press the button and when the shot is taken....it depends on some mysterious factors I haven't figured out yet but light seems to figure in. It fixes the light on some shots automatically and that's really nice. The short video mode actually works really well. It seems like many of the problems with the early digital cameras have been resolved.....so....if you're still struggling with an old digital....it might be worth trying a new one.
...

funkymom says "great for cleaning my ferret cage" about Clorox Anywhere Hard Surface Daily Sanitizing Spray

Pet places try to sell a lot of items for cleaning cages, but I figure, if the Clorox Anywhere Hard Surface Daily Sanitizing Spray is safe to use around kids I could use it to clean my ferret cage. It smells a little cloroxy, but only for a short time, and the critters don't mind it. I tried just diluting clorox with water in a spray bottle, but that didn't work as well because I don't think it dissolved as uniformly....

funkymom says "I use a kenmore, and it does a fine job!" about Kenmore Washing Machine

I have a kenmore washer and dryer. They work well, provide me options I like and have not needed much attention. The washer allows me to pick the size of the load I'm washing and it sizes the amount of water accordingly. The dryer has a long cooling cycle so my clothes don't come out wrinkled if I leave them in there for a week....

funkymom says "I love my Hoover Steam-Vac" about Hoover SteamVac - Upright Vacuum SpinScrub - F5914-900

I love my Hoover steam vac because it makes big messes on the carpet "no big deal". When I didn't have one, a dropped glass of juice was a major problem. With the steam vac, a dropped glass of juice is just an opportunity to steam clean the rug. It's easy to use and a lot less expensive than renting. I also don't like renting because then you get other people's dirt (and often these are rented for vomit and urine issues) into your house. Gross!...

funkymom says "very addictive, but I wouldn't want a teen I love to watch it" about Gossip Girl

Gossip Girl is an addictive show..amd I've been glad that I haven't had a 14 year old at home when I've watched it. Although they give lip service to the idea that teen sex is not a good thing, they highly romanticize it. Sometimes I feel awkward even watching it because .....if those kids were really teens....I know they're not...then I would be watching child prostitutes.....and I'm sure there are people watching it for the stimulation because it is very hot. On the station I get (CW), it is followed by a "pussycat girlie competition". Why don't they just make it about a college group?
I'm not conservative...I just don't like the idea of old men waiting for boob shots of so called 15 year olds.
...

funkymom says "Every so often a wonderful movie like this appears......" about Across the Universe 2007

Across the Universe was a wonderful movie....probably even if you don't know all the Beatle songs by heart. I loved the interpretations of the songs which gave many of them new meaning to me. Visually, the movie was extraordinary, and it's neat in times like this to revisit Viet Nam. We should never forget....

funkymom says "instant map of where you are...a little annoying." about Magellan - Maestro 3100 GPS Receiver

The dang thing turns on every time I start the car unless I unplug it, and then the plug thingy swings to and fro. It also has a touch screen which won't work with gloves but you can use a pencil eraser.

My Lowrance GPS (ancient) has a really neat thing where it shows you the path you've taken..this one doesn't. It's also pretty insistent on you taking the path it selects sometimes...not always...but that can be really annoying especially if you don't put in your destination and then you turn it on when you're half way there and you just want a map and it keeps telling you how to go home unless you stop and reset it.

If you need to go somewhere that you're not sure of it will really help...but it also doesn't zoom out w/o losing a lot of detail....so you can't see what's a mile ahead, just where you currently are.

...

funkymom says "informative, thought provoking and really funny" about Sicko

Michael Moore has a way of being outrageously everything while making a point. This was a fantastic movie which asked all the right questions. I am originally from Canada an I really miss the health care system there even though I have good insurance here.
One thing he does extremely well is puts a human face on the problems. His interviews with the people employed by the insurance companies who have quotas on denying claims were very convincing. This country can be the best in so many ways and public access to health care should be a priority issue. Many people said the movie is too one-sided, but after living in Canada and experiencing universal health coverageI really don't think that was much of an issue. The ending was absolutely great
...

It was almost 5 years before we needed a repair, and it's been really reliable (knock wood). It's fun to get noticed around town because it's turquoise! On less than good conditions it seems to really need the 4wd, maybe because it's kind'a light. Fun to drive and I've never gotten stuck....

funkymom says "get more than one, and be ready for a very large commitment." about Ferret

I love my ferrets and the neighborhood kids do too, but often I just don't have the time to give them. If there was a 7-12 year old child in our household who wanted them in his or her room that would be ideal because they could run around and play while the child did whatever, and they would be fantastic companions because they are so incredibly sweet. Males tend to be more cuddly and females are more spry. Their claws can be really hard on younger children. Make sure it's a Marshall Ferret, and check around for second hand ones. They can be a lot less expensive and this is a pet a lot of people get before they realize what it entails....
