firedust37 says "Sci-Fi At It's Best" about Soylent Green

Despite the 70's feel, 'Soylent Green' holds up well for today's adult audience. Not for the faint of heart, this film is gritty and disturbing. — Life is miserable in the year 2022. Food, fuel, and water are scarce and it is unbearably hot because of the greenhouse effect. Pollution has destroyed the earth's crops and most animals but there are plenty of people left. New York city has 400,000,000 people in it and more than half of them are unemployed. There's not enough food, water, or housing to go around. A yellow smog coats the filthy city. The government encourages and sponsors widespread euthanasia to try and control the overpopulation. Natural foods have become a luxury that only the elite can afford. The rest of the population eat synthetic food produced by the Soylent Corporation. — Even those supplies are severely limited and rationed by the government. Riots on Ration Day are common and people are willing to kill to secure them. Only the strong survive and...

firedust37 says "Great Movie For the Christmas Hilidays!" about Love Actually

'Love Actually' is truly a 'feel good' film. There are ten distinct plot lines and the stories are set in England around the Christmas holidays. — The stories (and characters) intersect and cross over into other plots. The plots follow the lives, loves, and longings of various Brits. Ok, so some of the stories aren't as interesting as others. The ones that are interesting are very interesting. Bill Nighy as the decadent, former rock star who's desperate for a comeback is absolutely hilarious. His performance alone is reason enough to watch this film! — However, there are other storylines that capture your attention and the end result is that the different stories are woven together so seamlessly, that you happily follow them all. — Great acting, great plots, and a must see film, especially during the Christmas season, 'Love Actually' shines. — ...

firedust37 says "Great Atmosphere" about Skeleton Key

'The Skeleton Key' is chock full of spooky atmosphere and never resorts to gore to provide thrills. — Kate Hudson plays a private nurse hired by the family lawyer to care for a dying man in a decaying, Southern, Gothic mansion set in Louisiana. Once there, she finds that superstition is alive and well in that house and she grows increasingly curious about it's past occupants. — This intense curiosity is the one jarring note in an otherwise interesting thriller. Kate Hudson's character is irritating. Quite a spunky heroine but a horrible employee. A private nurse that immediately ignores house rules and secretly roots through every nook and cranny isn't exactly an ideal employee! She's sullen and incredibly nosy, even extending this nosiness to entering stranger's homes uninvited! (Bad idea in the bayou!). It's hard to like her. — Still, the heavy, Gothic atmosphere and unusual plot make this movie worth seeing. The story is very interesting and you do find...

firedust37 says "Jolly But A Poor Sequel" about Shrek the Third

'Shrek the Third' is not a terrible movie. It's just that the original 'Shrek' and the first sequel ('Shrek 2') were superb. 'Shrek the Third' suffers by comparison and suffers horribly. — The first two 'Shrek' movies were brilliant. Funny, innovative, and interesting to both children and adults. 'Shrek the Third' is none of these things. Only children will really like it. It has a weak script and is a major disappointment to those who saw the first two films. — Still, the familiar, loveable characters are present and it's cute. Children who aren't comparing it to it's predecessors will enjoy seeing it and it is colorful and jolly. — ...

firedust37 says "Easy Way To Earn Gift Certificates!" about MyPoints

My Points is an online rewards program that rewards you with points for shopping, reading e-mails, and sign ups. The biggest point awards come from paid sign ups but they have many, many site and newsletters sign ups that are completely free. They even have their own My Points credit card if you want to rack up points even faster. You exchange the points you earn for gift cards and there's a vast selection of gift cards. — I have found My Points customer service to be responsive and the gift cards arrive quickly. I especially like the various holiday games they have to win points and prizes. The holiday games are simple and require no skill, just luck. If you shop online, it's a good idea to sign up. If you don't shop online, it's still a good idea to sign up because you can earn gift certificates with very little effort on your part. On top of that, the email offers are interesting and frequently generate their own freebies and savings from other companies! —...

firedust37 says "Beautiful Flowers" about Hallmark Flowers

Hallmark Flowers can be found at www.hallmark.com. — The flowers I received were fresh and beautifully arranged. The vase that came with them was a delight to behold! I love their holiday vases and this one was exceptional. — I had no reason to contact their customer service since I was pleased with the product. — Note - Hallmark.com frequently has online coupons available so it pays to Google before placing an order. It's also worth noting that Hallmark has a rewards program so it would be advantageous to sign up for a Gold Crown Card before placing an order so that you receive points for your purchase. Hallmark points are converted to dollars and you will receive Hallmark certificates by mail. Gold Crown cards can also be used in any Hallmark store and it's free to receive one. You can sign up for a Gold Crown card online and they will mail you a card. Signing up for the Hallmark newsletter will generate even more Hallmark coupons and special savings codes! —...
