The Doctor's Sonic Screwdriver

With seasons going back to 1963, Doctor Who is one of the longest running science fiction shows in television history. It's getting to be more well known outside the United Kingdom thanks to the first four seasons of the series' revival being broadcast on the Sci Fi Channel (now known as SyFy for some strange reason). The show is about a Time Lord who goes by the mysterious name of 'The Doctor' from the planet Gallifrey. He's an alien who looks human on the outside, but has a different anatomy on the inside. He travels through space and time at the same time, often with one or more companions. The Doctor is a complex character who does not neatly fit into any of the categories we put fictional characters in. There are many iconic aspects to the show that fans the world over recognize instantly. Among them is the Doctor's Sonic Screwdriver. It's an immensly versatile tool that the Doctor has been using ever since his second regeneration...
...

dukethepcdr says "Joker messes up a good Two-Face story." about The Dark Knight

The Dark Knight Almosts Succumbs to Spiderman 3 Syndrome

The Dark Knight is as confusing and convoluted as Batman Begins was straightforward. In Batman Begins, the plot is easy to follow and well written. Even with the introduction of brand new characters like Lucius Fox and rarely seen ones like Ra's Al Ghul, the alternate universe-like telling of how Bruce Wayne developed Batman is compelling and draws you in even if you are a comic book purist sitting there saying "this isn't like the comic books".

The Dark Knight on the other hand, is almost as twisted and dark as one of the Joker's bad dreams. I'm not a big fan of lengthy exposition scenes, but this movie could have used just a little bit of one. You don't know where you are half the time. Gotham City looks very different from Batman Begins. Almost like a different city altogether. Wayne Manor is still gone, I think. Unless the bunker-like room Batman keeps his stuff in is in the basement. They don't show any hint......

dukethepcdr says "Here are my favorite characters from TV shows I've seen." about Television's Greatest Characters

Greatest Characters on TV
According to Me Anyway :)

Fraiser Crane - This character, played so very well by Kelsey Grammer, is so good that he was the only character in the classic sit-com Cheers to have his own sucessful spinoff show. I loved watching him in both shows. HIs own show, Fraiser, was under head writer Christopher Lloyd who is hilarious himself. He's the classic shrink who's almost as crazy as his patients. The chemistry among his costars on that show is just fun to watch too, especially with Niles who sometimes steals the scenes he's in with his contrastingly subdued but very funny acting.

Kramer - Of all the crazy characters on the most famous show about nothing, Seinfield, Kramer takes the cake. I'm surprised Richards hasn't parlayed his Kramer into his own show. He's the nutty neighbor every apartment dweller hopes he doesn't have. A trainwreck waiting to happen, but we can't keep from watching to see what happens next. My favorite was when he made the coffee......

dukethepcdr says "The best and worst Star Wars games ever." about Lucasarts Star Wars Games

Long ago in galaxy far, far away....

Those immortal words have started six movies (with one on the way in the animated Clone Wars movie), three cartoons, almost countless toys and other memorabilia and many many games. Star Wars is probably the riskiest gamble any movie producer ever made (back in the 70's, hardly anyone thought A New Hope would even become a finished movie let alone a cultural phenomenon) and it has paid off big time for both consumers and makers of everything Star Wars.

I am a huge Star Wars fan. I also love to play video games on my PC, consoles and now even my cell phone. Few intellectual properties have spawned as many games as Star Wars. There have been Star Wars games in arcades and for just about every game console ever made ever since Star Wars Episode iV A New Hope came out in the 1970's. Some games have been great, some ok and some just plain awful. Here's my picks for the best and worst Star Wars games. They are not really in order as it was too......

dukethepcdr says "The best gaming news and opinions in print." about Electronic Gaming Magazine

Electronic Gaming Monthly (EGM) is the best gaming mag I've read. I have subscribed to a lot of them but I like EGM the best. My favorite article in there is Seanbaby's The Rest of the Crap. He reviews really bad video games in that article every month. His reviews are very funny. I also like the way that EGM covers all the consoles as well as PCs and cellphones. Some magazines focus on only one gaming platform. I have several game systems at home and also play games on my cellphone, so I like magazines that cover them all. EGM also has one of the best online websites too. Their site called 1UP has a thriving community where members can post blogs, cheats, pics, videos, articles etc. for free. They also have the 1UP Show videos on there. The 1UP show is a funny but informative "TV show" like program that gives reviews and info about games in a video format. It has pretty good production values for a free video. They also have audio podcasts that are good too. ......

dukethepcdr says "These guys prove any song can be a Christian song." about Biblical Graffiti by Apologetix

Apologetix is an amazing band. They are like the Weird Al Yankovicks of Christian Music. They do parodies of popular secular songs. Instead of changing the lyrics so that they are really weird, they change them so that they carry a Christian message.

For example, in their song I'm Gonna Feed (500 Mouths) (which is on the CD Adam Up), they parody The Proclaimers' I'm Gonna Be. In the song instead of saying "When I wake up, well you know I'm gonna be", they sing "When I bake stuff with the dough I'm gonna knead". Also their song Should I Pray or Should I Go is a spoof of Should I Stay or Should I Go and is about deciding whether to stay in your home area or go out on missions work.

Some of their songs are funny but even the funny ones are about stories in the Bible or about issues facing Christians. They are very talented and their background music which they perform themselves sounds very much like the original artists. They do both classic rock and modern stuff as well. ......

The 10 Worst Movies I have Ever Seen

Manos: The Hand of Fate - This movie is only bearable when watched in the Mystery Science Theater 3000 version. Everything about it is plain awful. I have seen home videos of gradeschool stage plays that are better.

Cloverfield - Almost as awful as Manos but with improved special effects. The fact that you only get fleeting glimpses of said special effects through very poorly done camera work makes all the more terrible. I get it that the film was supposed to be discovered "raw" footage but it sure is hard to watch. This film is proof of the need for film editors.

Shane - I like westerns just fine, but not this one. The acting is poor even by low budget 1950's westerns standards. Every time I see that movie, I get the screech of the little boy yelling for Shane stuck in my head. It's even more annoying than listening to a parrot squak.

On Golden Pond - Quite possibly the most boring movie ever made. I fell asleep the first time I saw it. ...

...

Duke's Top 10 Movies of All Time
(That I have Actually Seen)

Shindler's List - This movie had some great performances by both the stars and extras. Its use of black and white accented by color was striking. The images of Holocaust victims was as gripping and real as any documentary, yet the drama of the plot kept the film from being as dry as many documentaries are.

Saving Private Ryan - There have been a lot of war movies, but this is the best one. It shows the honor, glory, tragedy and horror of war better than most films I've seen. It asks questions about war without condemning the brave men who fight in them. You are immersed into the battles and feel like you are really there, especially when viewed in the theater. The only other film that is even close to it was the HBO series Band of Brothers which was made by some of the same people.

Star Wars Episode V The Empire Strikes Back - I'm a huge sci fi fan and grew up with the Star Wars films. I saw A New Hope at a drive-in...

...
