don6391 says "A very good concept with only one limitation" about Select Comfort 5000

We have owned this mattress for five years now, and since my wife and I like different amounts of support, it is an ideal solution for us. I have some significant arthritis, so some nights I want soft and comfy, and and some nights I want back support. This approach allows changing to accomodate to your needs. My wife is quite constant in her needs and she can have her side just as she wants it.

The one problem with the Select Comfort 5000 is that it has some foam pads in it as well as it's well publicized air. As those foam pads wear out from compression, they have to be replaced. And the bill to do that is unconscionable! It would have cost us six hundred dollars to replace those pads with Select Comfort originals. We solved the problem by buying a closed cell foam topper and "floating" it on the Select Comfort system. Problem solved for $200!

The best way to judge is that whenever we travel, we are both very happy to get home to our Select Comfort "hybrid"!

don6391 says "This GE Microwave/Convection oven is great when it works!" about GE JEB1095BB Microwave/Convection Oven

When we built our new home in 2001, we wanted a second oven, but decided a microwave over the oven that was a convection oven too, made more sense. We were very happy with the GE JEB1095BB for the first several months, but then the troubles began. After about eight months we had trouble with the door interlock switch. But, it was on warranty, so who cared? Beside, we had purchased an insurance policy as part of the deal that covered all the appliances for four years (normally not what we do, but it covered everything in the kitchen for four years for less than $300). They fixed a plastic part in the door which has come loose and all was well. About a year later, the same plastic part broke, and they replaced it. In five years they replaced that part six more times! Obviously, the plastic was not up to the task! During that time they also replaced the magnetron once. While this is a very good appliance when it works, it is certainly one that requires a lot of repair. ......

don6391 says "I couldn't live here without it!" about Ariens 1028 Snow Thro Snowblower

I have owned the Ariens 1028 snowblower for six years now, and don't know how I could get along without it. Our house is situated so that when you back out of the garage, you turn the car and go straight uphill for about 120 feet before you get to a flat section. The slope is about 10° for most of the way and, since it is Maine it is often icy and snow is very frequent most winters. Since this blower has a 10 HP (well, 9.6 actually), engine, it is equipped with electric start. All that is required for reliable starting is to set the choke, prime the engine and set the accelerator and plug it in. Push the starter button and it goes straight off.

Since I never know how much the next storm will bring, I like to put the snow well off into the woods. Light, fluffy stuff can be easily blown fifty feet from the driveway, while heavier, wet spring snow can be put back twenty-five feet. That gives plenty of room for the next batch!

Maintenance is simple, but necessary. Oil changes...
...
