dgum10 says "Not a great buy. Gets quickly outdated. " about Dell Inspiron 600m Laptop

I bought this computer a few years ago as my first Dell expecting them to be reliable computers. Little did I know how much money I would waste on this "affordable" laptop. I bought the "in-home" warranty option thinking that they would come if the phone support couldn't fix my problem. This never happened. They ended up only coming to install hardware, but not even touch the software. I still don't understand why they would charge for this service since only their technicians can perform such repairs without voiding the warranty. The computer itself was slow and ugly. It looked like a plastic box. Towards the end of my warranty I tried to get some internet drivers sent to me on a CD since they were erased after multiple hard drive crashes. When I asked them to mail me the CD with the drivers, they told me it would be impossible since they are the old drivers and they don't make the cd's anymore. The only solution was to download them online. Only problem was the drivers that I needed were...
...

dgum10 says "Easy to use and makes delicious ice cream" about CuisinArt Ice Cream Maker - ICE 20

This ice cream maker is incredibly easy to use and makes amazing ice cream and sorbet. All you need to do is put the bowl in the freezer overnight, then mix the ingredients and place it on the base for about 20-30 minutes. The flavor choices are endless. I've expiremented with some candies and liqueur's and they've all been delicious. The ice cream will last a few weeks in the freezer and I reccomend getting plastic containers similar to this: http://www.instawares.com/fabri-kal-alur-16oz-apet-clear-deli-container.fabrd16.0.7.htm to store it. They give you a recipe book so you can make vanilla and chocolate, as well as some sorbets and other ice cream flavors, and adding ingredients is easy. The chocolate ice cream with a shot or two of Amarula liqueur is delicious. Clean up is really easy. It's melted ice cream in the bowl so it will just wash off quickly. Then just leave it to be completely dry and throw the bowl back in the freezer over night.
...

dgum10 says "Reliable brand with a TON of space." about Western Digital My Book Home Edition 1 TB WDH1CS10000N Hard Drive

The Western Digital My Book Home Edition 1 TB WDH1CS10000N Hard Drive is a great external hard drive that offers multiple connections, all high speed. I am personally a Mac user, but many of my friends with PC's have also purchased the My Book 1TB and have loved it. You can connect by either a firewire 400 cable, USB 2.0, or eSATA. While I have never seen anyone use the eSATA port, the ultra fast fire wire and USB option is great. It came with a software bundle, but being a Mac user, Leopard came with its own backup software and I had no real use for it. Regardless, they give you the tools to back up frequently. Besides working well, the device just looks great. Instead of another bulky/ugly enclosure, Western Digital offers a sleek plastic casing that (obviously) resembles a book and isn't an eyesore. The price is also amazing. Whether you go to Costco or Amazon, you will find it for under $150, and for a TB, this is a GREAT price.
...

dgum10 says "My favorite pair of headphones" about Shure - E2C Consumer Headphones

After playing drums for a few years and already experiencing some hearing damage, I knew I needed a good pair of noise isolating or cancelling headphones. I looked at the Bose and Shure headphones, along with a few other brands, and it came down to a few essential things. Comfort, sound quality, and price. The Shure line of headphones met all of these requirements. I looked at the different levels of headphones and while the E5C's were appealing, I knew that I would never get a custom mold for my ear or justify the price. The E2C's though were the perfect buy. For under $100 you get a great pair of noise isolating headphones that require no batteries (like the Bose ones) and are incredibly comfortable. After having used the small apple headphones, I was hesitant to get another pair of "in-ear" headphones. To my surprise they were incredibly comfortable and unless I wore them for more than 3 or so hours (on planes), I would rarely notice them. The sound quality is amazing. I've heard complaints...
...

dgum10 says "Powerful speaker for a great price" about JBL EON 515

My roommate and I just bought this speaker to get more bang at parties we throw. I knew that JBL was a great brand before, but had no idea that they were releasing a new line of Eon speakers to replace the old grey ones. The exterior is now much smoother and attractive with a black finish, and the speaker only weighs about 30 lbs (the smaller Eon 510 is only 17 lbs). We decided to test the speaker out last night at my friends birthday party. It blasted music for a good 8-9 hrs and never peaked or got distorted. We bought an external mixer to be able to control the levels though since the speaker only has a Gain nob and 3 EQ settings. If you do want to control the High's, Mid's, and Low's, then I recommend buying a simple mixer as well. Overall, the speaker has amazing parts built into the speaker including a Crown Amp and a 3 channel mixer. The speaker is very user friendly and easy to install.
...

dgum10 says "The worst attempt at a touch screen phone." about Samsung - Glyde Cell Phone

The Samsung Glyde has been advertised as one of Verizon's better touch screen phones as an alternative to the Blackberry Storm. What they don't advertise is how bad the touch screen actually is on this phone. The touch screen technology is based on the temperature of your finger, but this technology is severely flawed. Most of the time that I would try to "unlock" the phone using the touch screen feature, the phone wouldn't recognize my touch, regardless of temperature. I would warm up my hands and blow hot air on the screen, but still no luck. When I would be able to access the menu and "play around" with the features, the phone would always think that I was hitting any of the buttons on the bottom of the screen. I would try to touch the top of the screen and only the bottom buttons would respond. Also, whenever Samsung releases any updates for the phone (they had at least two or three in the last year), Verizon had no way of notifying you that there was an update, and would expect you...
...

I first got this printer a few years ago for my house and had no idea what to expect. I had no idea how easy it would be to set-up and use. I now have one at home and one with me at college. Setting it up only takes about five minutes, and before you know it you can scan, print, and copy with incredible ease. When it came to teaching the rest of my family how to use the various features, I was a little nervous since they know very little about technology in general. I was quickly relieved though since it's so user friendly. You can make black and white or color copies by pushing a button, and can scan documents by pressing another. If that doesn't sound easy enough, the buttons are labeled! Printing quality is excellent and easy to adjust to "fast draft" if you want to save ink. If you are printing pictures at home it is also easy to change the settings and you still get great quality prints. Ink can get a little pricey if you buy the individual packs, but the 3-packs are reasonably priced....
...

dgum10 says "Great simple phone with QWERTY" about LG - env 2 Cell Phone

I got the LG-env2 a few months ago and so far it has been a reliable phone. It's very easy to navigate and use both the small screen in the front or the larger screen inside. Although the screen in the front is a little small, you can easily access your phone book and call or text someone very quickly without any confusing menu's or steps. When you open the phone you have a large qwerty keyboard that is useful, but the keys are very close to each other and some are placed poorly. Having two "space" buttons can be viewed as convenient, but with the symbol button right above one of these space buttons, I have consistently hit the wrong key. The keys are also placed very close together which also causes mistyping, but this is a small problem that is easy to adjust to. The speaker on the phone is also amazing. It is not only loud, but extremely clear. I've been able to leave the phone on the counter playing music while I'm in the shower and still can hear the song! I know this doesn't fall...
...

The 13" Macbook has been my third laptop now, and it is by far my favorite. My last laptop was a Dell Inspiron that consistently had hard drive problems that would take hours to fix after being on hold with tech support for even longer. Since I got this laptop, I have been thrilled. The OSX i incredibly simple to use or learn if you are new to Macs. It took me a few weeks to get used to some of the shortcuts (using the "Apple" key instead of the "Ctrl"), but you quickly adjust and it becomes natural. The only negative aspect of the laptop though is the video card. While the laptop is the "entry level" one for the Mac family, the video card they use typically falls short of the system requirements for various programs. Also, whenever I did have to use tech support, I would have two options. Either call Applecare which would typically have me mail in my computer (they overnight a box to you with postage and everything) or set up an appointment in any Apple Store at my conveniece. No hours...
...

The Logitech Z-2300 speakers good set of speakers for a low price. They obviously aren't going to compete with a Bose or Klipsch set, but for under $100 they are a steal. If you live on a college campus though, they might not be the best buy since they can blow out quite easily if you invite a few friends over. Some of my friends have blown theirs out a few times, but logitech has been great with their warranty and sent a replacement speaker or sub quite quickly. If you are looking for a simple set of 2.1 speakers that has good high's, mid's, and low's, this is the one. If you want to be able to control the levels more closely, I would recommend getting a simple Behringer unpowered mixer which would let you actually control the highs, mids and lows instead of the simple controller that logitech gives you. If you don't want to learn how to use a mixer though, these speakers sound fine without one
...
