It really has a great smell, doesn't smell like  tanning lotion nor does it leave a bad smell. It does give you a little hint of tan. It will keep you from being too white, but it doesn't give a real dark tan look. It does however moisturize well. I don't think it is meant to give a really dark tan either. I like to use it during the winter to not only moisturize but to have a little color. As with any self tanner you do have to be careful around heels, and knees.
