Nikro says "Sharpen your child's mind while having fun! " about Highlights Hidden Picture Playground

Highlights Hidden Picture Playground is a club from Highlights magazine for children. It is geared toward 3-5 year olds. — I can't tell you how much fun my 37 month old has gotten from one book! There are stickers to place on hidden pictures, coloring pages, word games, and much more. We use them at home, at her brother's baseball game or to take to play with grandma or gram pa. I have found that it is a great relaxation/quiet time/bed time relaxation tool. — She is too young to the hidden picture and word games without assistance, but I definitely see that she is learning with each new book that arrives. — Highlights has the subscription set up so you can schedule delivery frequency. We are in the 8 week schedule and gets older we may be changing that to 6 week shipments. Each shipment comes with 2 different books and a strip of stickers for use anywhere and costs around 12 dollars which includes...

AWESOMEMOM88 says "It was better as Zooba" about BOMC2

I signed on with Zooba...the premise was great. You researched their extensive catalog of books, selected titles you were interested in, put the titles into order of importance on a wish list, and then, once a month, they took the top title from your list and sent you a lovely hardcover edition of the book for a total of $9.95 with shipping and handling included in that fee. And for the first few months it worked out just as advertised. You have the option at any time of ordering more books than just the next one on your list, and you can go and change the order of your list, or delete titles you may have picked up elsewhere at any time at all....You only have a two book membership requirement in a two year period....So far, so fabulous.....that is until Zooba was bought out by BOMC2 (a division of Book of the Month Club and according to my online research somehow tied to my least favorite online, mail order establishment.....Columbia House) If any of you have...

procurementgirl says "A commuters salvation!" about Audio Books Opinion

I have long been a road warrior and so have been listening to audiobooks for years. Cracker Barrel was my introduction to this medium of "reading". They still have a great deal on their audio books. You pay full price for the "book", but you can bring them back and get a refund less the weekly charge. It used to be $3/week, but it's been it's been a few years since I was last there so it could be more. — These days I download audiobooks from iTunes. The drawback of downloads from this source (or from eMusic, Audible.com, etc.) is you pay full price for a book you most likely will just delete later or keep on your computer's hard drive for eternity. Same problem if you purchase from a book store. — Believe it or not, the Chicago Public Library now offers downloadable audiobooks to checkout, which is a much better option than iTunes...except their downloads are not compatible with iPods. Figures, right? —...

lilaichee says "Great for on-the-go." about Audio Books Opinion

Audio books are great on road trips, on walks, or anywhere your thoughts might start wondering because there's nothing for it to focus on but it'd be impossible to read an actual physical book. Of course you could just listen to music on your MP3 player. But don't you have a whole list of to-read books that you can't seem to get around to reading? — — If you like to read and... — — drive long distances, — — or — — take long walks to get places, — — or — — often cook, iron, etc. — — Then audio books will make those boring routines something to look foward to, and will enrich your brain as well. — — Not to mention there are sites where you can download the audios of classics for free. — — Take the time, if necessary the extra money, to get some audio books. They'll add richness to your life. — — PS: Audio casettes are preferrable because it starts...

Telpher says "A great - but costly - option. Listen up to these tips." about Audio Books Opinion

When my mother started to go blind, one of the things she worried about was missing out on was books. She's always been an avid reader - from newspapers to best sellers to more obscure stuff. Most people assume that anyone going blind would learn to read Braille. The fact is, it's difficult for an adult to learn, and even more difficult for an adult with diabetes to learn, due to related circulation problems. As most people who develop blindness late in life are diabetics, there are actually lots of blind adults out there who never learn to read Braille. My mom is one of these people. — Audiobooks are one form of Assistive Technology that have made a huge difference in my mother's life. These days, just about any book in print is available in an audio format, weather it be old-school cassette tapes, compact discs, or even digital recordings. So, while there are tons of books available on Itunes, a person doesn't need to have an expensive MP3 player to listen to...

dfunk29 says "One of the best ideas ever" about Audio Books Opinion

I think these are one of the best ideas to come along in a long time. Not only does it make my commute less of a pain, but I get to "read" all the books I don't have time to due to working and studying. I think they are a great way to get through rush hour with getting road-rage. And being able to load them on to an mp3 player amkes working out a little more...

Jo says "Mother's Day deserves a meaningful and timeless gift" about My Picks for the BEST BOOKS for Mother's Day

This review is dedicated to my mom because without her there wouldn't be two extraordinary young women who are changing the world - one in a big way; one in her own way. — 1. My mom fell and fractured her knee. I was with her in rehab on Valentine's Day. Remembering Love You Forever from my days as a Social Worker I decided to buy her this 15- page paperback. — Although Love You Forever can be found in the children's section it was just so perfect for my mom at this particular time in her life. The book was written by Robert Munsch and illustrated by Sheila McGraw. — The illustrations are wonderful. The book wouldn't be what it is if not for McGraw's illustrations which appear opposite every page and illustrate what the text is saying. — This is a simple but touching book (My mom cried which I knew she would.) starting out with a mother holding her new baby. The book is with a mother and boy. I didn't change he to she. I wanted to leave it just as it is. The...

I don't know who it was that was smart enough to come up with the audio book but, what a brilliant idea! I just can't thank you enough! I have enjoyed many stories that I never would have been able to read - do to lack of free &/or extra time, and now, to be able to listen to so many wonderful stories while I'm driving, or tending to the everyday task at hand... washing dishes doesn't seem like such a chore when I can focus on an audio book...

Buggheart says "Why oh WHY did I not buy this the first time I saw it???" about Thai Book Rest

The Verdict: I can't read without my Thai bookrest. Everyone is getting them for Christmas this year. Myself included! About the Thai bookrest: The Thai bookrest is a mini version of pillows made by villagers in northeast Thailand. It is basically a stiff little pillow made from polyfiber. It is shaped into a pyramid with a little fold out shelf that holds the book and holds pens and other reading and writing tools. The whole thing is covered on the outside with 100% silk. It has a sewn in cord bookmark that is nice and long and has pretty silver beads on the end. — My Experience: A few years ago at Christmas time I was walking around Marshall Fields with a friend. While he was picking out a gift for his mom I wandered around the general area and found the Thai bookrest on a shelf with other reading supplies, such as bookmarks and reading glasses. It looked interesting but when I saw the $50...
