Reviewlady21 says "Above Average Band" about Amberian Dawn

Amberian Dawn is another finnish symphonic power metal band. the band was founded by several members of Amberian Dawn played together in another band called virtuocity but the band eventually split. while working on another band project Atheme One the members put out an ad searching for a classically trained female singer. eventually the found Heidi Parviainen (soubrette soprano) and former member of iconofear and after hearing a few samples it was decided that heidi was the vocalist the band was looking for and thus Amberian Dawn was formed.

some people may believe that Amberian Dawn was another Nightwish copycat since both bands are from finland and both have female vocalst (AD with heidi and Nightwish with former vocalist tarja). I doubt anyone would compaire AD with the current NW with anette.

anyhow to date Amberian Dawn has two albums and is currently working on a third album that is expected to be released in 2010.

Heidi's vocal ability is somewhat similar to tarja's except heidi's...
...

Kelysian says "TSO - the most over-the-top show on earth." about Trans-Siberian Orchestra

WARNING - spoilers!

Our family likes the classical/rock Christmas stuff we'd heard from TSO, so I got us tickets for their show in Portland. I had heard there would be lasers.

Oh. My. God. This was the cheesiest, overblown, self-aggrandizing, over-the-top show I have ever witnessed - it even topped PARODIES of overblown rock shows. From the big hair to the scantily clad singers/dancers to the LED screens, lasers, fog and pyrotechnics, it transported us back to the 1980s, and not in a good way.

The first half of the show, the Christmas parable about the angel and such, was schmaltzy, preachy and shallow. Thankfully, TSO's well-known Christmas rock pieces were interspersed with the rest of the story and songs.

Oh, granted, most of the musicianship was excellent. I did really enjoy the couple of times the band drifted into a more bluesy landscape. And the pianist was top-notch, whether playing classical, rock or boogie-woogie.

But distracting from the musical joy were the lead violinist,...
...

krayzie1870 says "the best band in the world" about metallica

If I had only one sentence to describe metallice, it would be the greatest heavy metal band in the world!!! The band has been turning heads non stop in the world of rock and roll since the early 1980's. I cant think of one album that they have put out that I havent probably spent one hundred hrs listening to. This band has always been unique in its own way, including the five minute power solos, to the crazyness on stage. Like all bands though, they have gone ythrough some rough times, with their first bass guitarist getting killed to the singers addiction to be a boozer. now they are rocking out with another bassist, which in my opinion isnt as good as jason newstead but apparently he is getting the job done!!! its been an awesome almost thirty years of listening to the greatest band in the world and I am looking forward to hearing future albums because I know that it is going to be great!
...

Evanescence is a rock band from Little Rock, Arkansas, USA. The word "evanescence" means to dissipate like mist.On October 22, 2003, Moody left the band abruptly in the middle of a European tour. The reasons for his departure were reportedly "creative differences". In an interview several months later [1], Lee said: "We'd gotten to a point that if something didn't change, we wouldn't have been able to make a second record". Since then, Lee has said it was almost a relief that he left because of tensions created within the band. Terry Balsamo from Cold joined the band, replacing Moody. Recently, Moody confessed he suffers from a bipolar disorder, and he was in crisis the day he left Evanescence.Evanescence is currently working on their second album, which is unnamed as of yet. The album has progressed slowly due to the band's desire to take their time with it, coupled with the band member's numerous side projects, health problems concerning guitarist Terry Balsamo and the controversy revolving...
...

NMiller says "The best band in the world!" about Relient K

I absolutely love Relient K's music... just about all of it. Of my 25 top played songs on my iPod, 14 of them are by Relient K. Relient K is a punk/alternative bank with fun and inspiring lyrics. I saw them in concert once and it was excellent... well, except for the sound guy who messed up some of the sound balancing for a song or two, but that wasn't the band's fault. If they ever do another concert near me again, I will definitely go.

My favorite song varies from day to day, but it is probably either "I so hate consequences," "Be my escape," "Pressing on" or "Up and up." Every time they come out with a new album, I buy it and there's usually only one or two songs that I don't absolutely love. I do have to admit that I tend to like their older music more than their newer songs, but all their stuff really is great. Just the other day, I was playing my iPod playlist (which is like 30% Relient K) at work and two coworkers came up to me to ask which band it was.
...

Nickelback it's a good group for playing album studio and playing a good concert when a chance to view two each for a present. It is a simple group with a good composition of classic rocker of 2000 century. The last when a have the pleasure to watch is very sublime. It's a compoterine group and the composition it is playing in a concert it is more good for your album studio for me. But it is a musician and the composition reflect the problem of today young person all other. I love this group and it is more good to Celine Dion with a commercial music bullshit. The influence it is simply and it is rock. The led Zeppelin for another best rock group. With a good guitar and good voice of the singer. The chimie it is good. And principal good rock it for me a good detent with a friends, just me and want to a party. I love and i recommand to buy the last album of the group it is very and very good.
sfritz says "Brutal Band. Brutal Show. Death Metal Is Quite Alive. " about Dethklok

The weather was appropriately ominous in Pompano Beach, Florida.

Fans in de rigueur black t's, jeans, studs and sneakers/boots lined up at the P. Beach Amphitheater while storm clouds threatened to douse them all in thunder and lightning. The rain even broke through this workingman's quarter of Southeast Florida on occasion.

Still the real sturm and drang would come from the Amphitheater's crammed stage. On Sunday, November 8, the bands High On Fire, Converge, Mastodon and headliners Dethklok were live to make some brutal noise. That's right, Dethklok.

The animated superstars of the Adult Swim series about a metal band so big they make more loot than all but ten countries in the world. As hardcore fans know, series co-creator Brendon Small is a graduate of the Berklee School of Music. He actually does the bass, guitar and vocals on the show's songs. He also has a real band, which he had taken on the road once before. This time it's his second seven-week run for rock'n roll...
...

mailforkim2 says "John Mayer is very talented" about John Mayer

John Mayer is just one of my all time favorite musicians. His music is creative and he holds true to his own style. I have never liked when an artist I like suddenly decides to change their style. John Mayer never does this.

When I am nervous or upset his music relaxes me. His lyrics are creative and have meaning. If I am happy, cleaning, driving a car, sad... doesn't matter his music fits my mood.

I like music that is not loud and obtrusive. His music is mellow.

I also like that he is not a media hog. You do see him in the news but it never appears that he seeks out that attention like some others, such a Brittany Spears. Mst of his media attention comes from his talent or because he was dating someone famous.

It doesn't hurt that he is very easy on the eyes to look at. Nice casual style of dress, nice hairstyle and to dye for eyes.

I do wish he would put out more new work more often but hen don't we always wish that.
...

I went with my mother in law and our thirteen year old nephew who wanted to go to this concert for his birthday. The concert was too long, too loud and had very bright lights that were blinding. The concert was interesting and entertaining for the first 30 minutes but by the end of hour 2 we were all ready to go home and still had another hour to go! The nephew was falling asleep even amidst the blaring music and explosions of flames! It was just so boring... The music was unoriginal and very repetitive. The Christian spiritual aspect lacked depth and was shallow. I was disappointed in how patriarchal and sexist the presentation of the story of Jesus and Christmas was. The narrative was really bad and sounded like a fifth grader had written it. "A glass of whiskey used as a moat" was imaginative but ridiculous. I tuned out most of the rest after that. The lyrics and songs were also juvenile and poorly composed. In addition, we got to watch a bunch of blond women...
...

I'll be honest, I've never been a huge fan of Fight For Fighting. When they had "Superman" on the radio a few years ago I didn't really care for that song or any other of theirs. But since that was a while ago and my music taste has become more open since then, I decided to give them another chance.

Their music is still slightly the same - mellow, meaningful, and unique. Lead singer John Ondrasik has a one of a kind voice which I actually kind of like. Five For Fighting is family friendly music (no curse words or suggestive language). Some of my favorite songs on the album are "Story of Your Life", "Slice", and "Chances". I'm glad that I gave Five For Fighting a second chance, because I actually enjoy some of their mellow music now.

gatorbayou says "One of the best regional Jazz and Blues recordings in years" about Bam-Jazz

So often the best music is only heard by a select few and never makes it to disc. Granted, there is nothing like "live" but sometimes you just can't get out to catch it. This recording, Carolina Moonshine, by Jazz group Bam-Jazz is one of those rare recordings that has caught the spontanious of a live recording in a small venue. Bam-Jazz went out of their way to deliver just that. With nothing predetermined except the method of presentation the group took their cue from Jazz great Thelonius Monk by playing and what came out was "it". The audience was live as well adding to the flavor with incidental hoots and clapping during some of the pieces.

One of my favorite pieces on the recording was an unusual rendition of Gershwin's Summertime as a Reggae number. It showed the interest in playing music and not just boxing sounds called "Jazz" or "Blues". There are no pidgeon-holes here!

SOme of the other pieces that I particularly enjoy on Carolina Moonshine include the Flounder Blues - a jump...
...

formed in 1996 and led by gutarist michael amott and johan liiva (fomer lead vocalist) arch enemy is a melodic death metal band that combinds melody with aggression and technicality.

after recording three albums original vocalist johan was asked to leave the band, aparently johan wasn't dramatic enough to front the band. soon after in 2000 angela gossow a amateur German journalist and death metal vocalist soon replaced liiva. since the switch the band has achieved world wide fame.

Angela doesn't sound like the typical female vocalist since she uses growls as her primary vocal styling. she can give her male counterparts a "run for their money," she is also one of the few female vocalist in the metal genre to effectively use the growls.

Angela dresses downwards compared to other female vocalist, pefering people to admire her vocals and stage presence rather than her sex appeal.Angela is the "real" deal in my opinion and I think it's great they hired her because she is a talented vocalist...
...

Reviewlady21 says "the most adventurous metal band at present" about Therion

I believe it was around 02" when I first started listening to Nightwish, it was around that same time when I started looking at other bands that incoperate symphonic elements in their music. I found therion by looking up symphonic metal on Encyclopaedia Metallum, on the band's page it mentions therion started out as a death metal band before adding more symphonic elements. I believe it was in 95" when they official switched from death metal to what is now know as "symphonic metal". they are also considered one of the first bands to incoperate and popularized the genre, aside from Rhapsody of Fire, I forget the second band, and of course nightwish.

band is know as the the most adventurous metal band at present simply because the band uses diffrent types of music aside from symphonic metal.

Thrash Metal, Death/Doom, Melodic Death Metal, and other genres, which I think is awesome. therion is not afraid to try diffent genres in their music, that is why there is a variety of sound in each...
...

ShyC1ty says "The Cool Kids' 'Gone Fishing' is quite the catch for hip-hop." about The Cool Kids

Ever since humans first formed societies, there's been a coexistence of the 'conventional' (or the 'mainstream') and the unconventional (in this case, the 'counter-culture'). It used to be that to partake in one of the realms almost rendered one as mutually-exclusive from the other. That's to say that to be participate in the 'conventional' would mean the rejection of the 'unconventional', or vice versa.

This was particularly true in the beginning stages of the hip-hop culture when rap was almost only heard in impoverished and unlikely communities. However, as is usually the case, as soon as hip-hop was able to be commercialized to the 'mainstream', there was a schism within hip-hop in the same scope of 'mainstream' and 'counter-culture'. That occurred in the late 1980's through the early 1990's.

Fast-forward to 2009. Enter Mikey Rocks. Enter Chuck Inglish. They're the Cool Kids. This alternative hip-hop internet-sensation duo has been able to fuse the underground stylings of lyricism and...
...

johnnyturbo says "A true GEM of a debut from a true GEM of a band" about Band of Horses

Recently I came across the debut album,Everything All The Time, from Band of Horses.I was instantly blown away.Formed in 2004,BoH is a Seattle based Indie/Folk Rock band founded by singer/guitarist Ben Bridwell and bassist Mat Brooke after the break up of their former band,Carissa's Weird.BoH is remenecent of bands such as The Shins,Built to Spill, and Modest mouse, yet bring their own delicious flavor to the table."Everything All The Time" has a shimmering and trancendent sound that easily flows from upbeat shoe tapping jams, such as the tracks "Wicked Gil" and "Weed Party" to the beautiful meloncholy melodies "The Funeral" and "St. Augustine".To some,Bridwell's high-piched vocal stylings, may take a few listens to truly sink in.But once it does,it will find a permenant home within the listener.Although the album contains a couple of tracks that are somewhat forgettable,it can still be played from beginning to end without the listener ever having to get up and skip a track.
...

zildjianmaster2 says "A man of epic proportions." about eminem

eminem, to what do we owe this fine master of lyrical conception and innuendo. Your skillful artistry of extraordinary rage centered to your mother, wife, and other various kin, peers, and so on, has not only reached the minds of children across the nation, and world for that matter, but has influenced my musical tastes ever so much. When im down i listen to you, not only for joy and pleasure, but as an escape from the norms of our hardpressed society. So i say this Mr. Shady, maybe im lazy, maybe im hazy, maybe im a little off the wall balls out crazy, but know this, with the free-est of speech this united states of hypocracy will allow me to voice, i will write to the best of my knowledge, the most fond, greatest, most amazing review one could ever hope to be apart of... real name no gimicks
...
