mailforkim2 says "John Mayer is very talented" about John Mayer

John Mayer is just one of my all time favorite musicians. His music is creative and he holds true to his own style. I have never liked when an artist I like suddenly decides to change their style. John Mayer never does this.

When I am nervous or upset his music relaxes me. His lyrics are creative and have meaning. If I am happy, cleaning, driving a car, sad... doesn't matter his music fits my mood.

I like music that is not loud and obtrusive. His music is mellow.

I also like that he is not a media hog. You do see him in the news but it never appears that he seeks out that attention like some others, such a Brittany Spears. Mst of his media attention comes from his talent or because he was dating someone famous.

It doesn't hurt that he is very easy on the eyes to look at. Nice casual style of dress, nice hairstyle and to dye for eyes.

I do wish he would put out more new work more often but hen don't we always wish that.
...

MusicGuru says "Trans-Siberian "Awful"-- this was a bunch of 80s has beens!!!" about Trans-Siberian Orchestra

I went with my mother in law and our thirteen year old nephew who wanted to go to this concert for his birthday. The concert was too long, too loud and had very bright lights that were blinding. The concert was interesting and entertaining for the first 30 minutes but by the end of hour 2 we were all ready to go home and still had another hour to go! The nephew was falling asleep even amidst the blaring music and explosions of flames! It was just so boring... The music was unoriginal and very repetitive. The Christian spiritual aspect lacked depth and was shallow. I was disappointed in how patriarchal and sexist the presentation of the story of Jesus and Christmas was. The narrative was really bad and sounded like a fifth grader had written it. "A glass of whiskey used as a moat" was imaginative but ridiculous. I tuned out most of the rest after that. The lyrics and songs were also juvenile and poorly composed. In addition, we got to watch a bunch of blond women...
...

tholgate87 says "Fresh new tunes from Five for Fighting" about Five For Fighting

I'll be honest, I've never been a huge fan of Fight For Fighting. When they had "Superman" on the radio a few years ago I didn't really care for that song or any other of theirs. But since that was a while ago and my music taste has become more open since then, I decided to give them another chance.

Their music is still slightly the same - mellow, meaningful, and unique. Lead singer John Ondrasik has a one of a kind voice which I actually kind of like. Five For Fighting is family friendly music (no curse words or suggestive language). Some of my favorite songs on the album are "Story of Your Life", "Slice", and "Chances". I'm glad that I gave Five For Fighting a second chance, because I actually enjoy some of their mellow music now.

Kurt Cobain was a very talented man in his time.Born in Washington State Kurt always had a real passion and love for music.I can remeber the first album that I ever herad form Nirvana and I can still remeber whwn I turned on the news in 1994 and heard the words that rock legend Kurt Cobain was ead and gone.I put Kurt up there with Jimmy Hendrix,Janis Joplin and all of the other great rockers that have passed on.Kurts music was fascinating and people all over the world still listen to him today.Teen Spririt was a realy big hit back in the day and so was others like Rape Me,Polly and Where Did You Sleep Lastnight.Where Did You Sleep Lastnight is one of y favorite songs from Nirvana. That song is a really good song about a guy to his girl and that one has always been on of my favorites.Unfortunately for Kurt he became famous and got inot heroin and he never could get past it.Some people say Courtney Love killed him as well as others for talking about it but the truth is no one really knows...
...

I love this band calle Rehab.I think some of their songs are so cool.I guess my two favorite songs are Bartender and Walk Away.Bartender is just so me.Tghis song is so crazy. This guys chick threw his shit out so he took her car for revenge and wrecked it so as h is waiting at the bar for the cops to come and get him drownin himself on beer he is singing all about it so it is funny but so real.I can just see it.You do me like shit and I will get even.It is one of those things.Walk Away is a good song to.It just kind fo gives you insight into to life and things and you just have to listen to them. This is a boy band rock with a little bit of a hip hop mix.Just dont listen to bartender if your drunk and fighting with your women or man because you just might find yourself jacking their car and sitting at a bar at 2 am waiting on the cops to come and get you.Rehab rocks.
...

baverbach says "One of the best regional Jazz and Blues recordings in years" about Bam-Jazz

So often the best music is only heard by a select few and never makes it to disc. Granted, there is nothing like "live" but sometimes you just can't get out to catch it. This recording, Carolina Moonshine, by Jazz group Bam-Jazz is one of those rare recordings that has caught the spontanious of a live recording in a small venue. Bam-Jazz went out of their way to deliver just that. With nothing predetermined except the method of presentation the group took their cue from Jazz great Thelonius Monk by playing and what came out was "it". The audience was live as well adding to the flavor with incidental hoots and clapping during some of the pieces.

One of my favorite pieces on the recording was an unusual rendition of Gershwin's Summertime as a Reggae number. It showed the interest in playing music and not just boxing sounds called "Jazz" or "Blues". There are no pidgeon-holes here!

SOme of the other pieces that I particularly enjoy on Carolina Moonshine include the Flounder Blues - a jump...
...

Reviewlady21 says "Swedish Metal at it's finest" about Arch Enemy

formed in 1996 and led by gutarist michael amott and johan liiva (fomer lead vocalist) arch enemy is a melodic death metal band that combinds melody with aggression and technicality.

after recording three albums original vocalist johan was asked to leave the band, aparently johan wasn't dramatic enough to front the band. soon after in 2000 angela gossow a amateur German journalist and death metal vocalist soon replaced liiva. since the switch the band has achieved world wide fame.

Angela doesn't sound like the typical female vocalist since she uses growls as her primary vocal styling. she can give her male counterparts a "run for their money," she is also one of the few female vocalist in the metal genre to effectively use the growls.

Angela dresses downwards compared to other female vocalist, pefering people to admire her vocals and stage presence rather than her sex appeal.Angela is the "real" deal in my opinion and I think it's great they hired her because she is a talented vocalist...
...

Reviewlady21 says "the most adventurous metal band at present" about Therion

I believe it was around 02" when I first started listening to Nightwish, it was around that same time when I started looking at other bands that incoperate symphonic elements in their music. I found therion by looking up symphonic metal on Encyclopaedia Metallum, on the band's page it mentions therion started out as a death metal band before adding more symphonic elements. I believe it was in 95" when they official switched from death metal to what is now know as "symphonic metal". they are also considered one of the first bands to incoperate and popularized the genre, aside from Rhapsody of Fire, I forget the second band, and of course nightwish.

band is know as the the most adventurous metal band at present simply because the band uses diffrent types of music aside from symphonic metal.

Thrash Metal, Death/Doom, Melodic Death Metal, and other genres, which I think is awesome. therion is not afraid to try diffent genres in their music, that is why there is a variety of sound in each...
...

ShyC1ty says "The Cool Kids' 'Gone Fishing' is quite the catch for hip-hop." about The Cool Kids

Ever since humans first formed societies, there's been a coexistence of the 'conventional' (or the 'mainstream') and the unconventional (in this case, the 'counter-culture'). It used to be that to partake in one of the realms almost rendered one as mutually-exclusive from the other. That's to say that to be participate in the 'conventional' would mean the rejection of the 'unconventional', or vice versa.

This was particularly true in the beginning stages of the hip-hop culture when rap was almost only heard in impoverished and unlikely communities. However, as is usually the case, as soon as hip-hop was able to be commercialized to the 'mainstream', there was a schism within hip-hop in the same scope of 'mainstream' and 'counter-culture'. That occurred in the late 1980's through the early 1990's.

Fast-forward to 2009. Enter Mikey Rocks. Enter Chuck Inglish. They're the Cool Kids. This alternative hip-hop internet-sensation duo has been able to fuse the underground stylings of lyricism and...
...

Recently I came across the debut album,Everything All The Time, from Band of Horses.I was instantly blown away.Formed in 2004,BoH is a Seattle based Indie/Folk Rock band founded by singer/guitarist Ben Bridwell and bassist Mat Brooke after the break up of their former band,Carissa's Weird.BoH is remenecent of bands such as The Shins,Built to Spill, and Modest mouse, yet bring their own delicious flavor to the table."Everything All The Time" has a shimmering and trancendent sound that easily flows from upbeat shoe tapping jams, such as the tracks "Wicked Gil" and "Weed Party" to the beautiful meloncholy melodies "The Funeral" and "St. Augustine".To some,Bridwell's high-piched vocal stylings, may take a few listens to truly sink in.But once it does,it will find a permenant home within the listener.Although the album contains a couple of tracks that are somewhat forgettable,it can still be played from beginning to end without the listener ever having to get up and skip a track.
...

When I think of the band Disturbed, I reflect back to the very first time I heard them. It was the 2002 Superbowl Night, and I had the television station Fuse on in the living room while the whole family was watching the game out on the back patio. Someone had asked me to go run inside and get them something to drink. When I walked into the kitchen, I heard the most beautiful voice drifting in from the living room, When I got to the television, I saw the groupI would religiously listen to for the next ten years (and longer, I know). I dropped to my knees and wept in joy. They still have the same effect on me today. When you listen to all of their albums, each has their own beautiful quality. Album 1: The Sickness- It is so obviously their first. The sound is so raw and energetic. Its impossible not to love. 2: Believe- that was the sound of my 8th grade summer, theres so much passion in that one 3: 10,000 Fist- the sound has grown so much, they are really skilled artist by this point...
...

Reviewlady21 says " Left in the foreshadows" about Rhapsody of Fire

Formed in 1993 by Luca Turilli, Daniele Carbonera and Alessandro Staropoli. they wanted to form a power metal band integrated with classical elements. originally their band was know as "Thundercross" but later changed the name to rhapsody of fire.

ROF is considered one of the first bands to incoperate symphonic elements with heavy metal, thus creating a new genre of metal called "symphonic metal", more specifically the symphonic power metal genre. but are often over shadowed by the more popular bands from that genre, particularly Nightwish.

ROF's music has more of a heavier influence from classical music aside from nightwishes' tends use more rock oriented when building their songs. ROF's sounds more like a classical music piece rather than rock track (s).

personally I like both bands since they got me into the whole symphonic metal genre and allowed me to listen to a variety of metal bands. since 2008 ROF is on hold who knows how long. I wonder if this band will continue to make...
...

Kayne West in some respects is a talented and creative artist, but acts like the "world should dance to his tune."

kayne started out producing other artist before venturing into becoming a rapper/singer, before realising his debut album "college dropout". west was involved in a near fatal car crash, I guess that is how his first single "through the wire" was based on.

there are some good songs like gold digger and of course through the wire but his success is almost over shadowed by his inflated ego. Kayne appeared on the cover of rolling stones in the image of Jesus Christ wearing a crown of thorns. Kayne threw a fit when he was overlooked in favor of britney spears for the 2007 MTV video music awards, claiming that MTV over looked him because of his skin color.

BzzyBee says "Trace Adkins is #1 in my book!!" about Trace Adkins

I listen to Trace Adkins in the car, on CMT, my mp3 player and the computer. He is great!! In fact he is what gets me through driving in California traffic. Recently I was driving back and forth to a hospitol a couple of times a day and the freeways in California are horrible. His cd's got me through the driving without having too much frustrations. I recently went to his concert with Toby Keith and he was very very good. I had never been to one of his concerts and I was very pleased. As far as I am concerned he was the best part of the show. I just started reading his book and I love the way he is so straightforward and honest. Not much of that in the world today. Trace Adkins' music is down to earth and honest, as well. He can really get into the songs and brings them to life. I have just joined his fan club and I'm sorry I waited so long. He is a fanominal singer/musician/entertainer.
...

mischellemarita says "Howie Day makes it a great day for us" about Howie Day

Okay, so if you don't know who Howie Day is, its okay. When i usually talk to people about music i ask this question first. Howie Day is one of the best musicians i have ever heard. I am a music maven and love it all and just about know it all. Howie Day is from Maine. He is a singer / songwriter and if you listen to just one song you will know this. His best cd to date is "Stop All The World Now" which features the song i know you have had to have heard, "Collide". This is great music for your your feeling sad, happy and everything in between. The music just fills your mind and to me mellows you out. Some notable songs on this album include, "Perfect Time Of Day", "You and A Promise", "Collide" and "She Says" which seems to show up on all of Howie Day's albums, only sounding a little different each time. The standout song on the album is "End Of Our Days" which is played with the piano. This has to be my all time favorite song. Definitley check out Howie Day!
...

Slewfootannie says "If you only go to one concert a year this one should be it!" about Nickelback

I had a chance to catch Nickelback at Riverbend in Cincinnati for their Dark Horse Tour this week. Opening bands were Saving Abel, Papa Roach, and Hinder. Nickelback knows how to put on a show, that's for sure. The line up included songs from the Dark Horse CD (Somethin' in Your Mouth, Gotta Be Somebody, S.E.X., If Today was Your Last Day, Burn it to the Ground) as well as other well known hits from previous CDs (Photograph, Animals, Savin' Me, Far Away, If Everyone Cared, Rockstar, Hollywood, This is How You Remind Me, etc.). Nickelback also teamed up with Hinder to do a great cover of AC/DC's Highway to Hell that rocked the house out. They showed their versatility by doing a bit of Garth Brooks' Friends in Low Places. The show was interspersed with lots of chatter, water cannons, t-shirt cannons firing into the audience, and beer cups being tossed into the audience from the stage while the band swilled Jack Daniels and tequila. Great big screen backdrop and graphics running...
...
