FoxyHouligan says "One of the last true intelligent stylists in country music" about Sammy Kershaw

I have seen Sammy Kershaw in concert twice and enjoyed his music over the last twenty years. I saw him at an outdoor arena in 2007 and among other parts of his interaction with the crowd he let us know he would be running for governor of Louisianna in the next election. — The take on country musicians in general is that they are a crowd of beer and whiskey drinkin' hicks, who'll do just about any song to get up the charts. It is true that 90 percent of country music singers couldn't write a song if one slapped them in the face to wake them up from their last drunk. Mostly they depend on songwriters and begin to sound like 90 percent of what is on the charts. Sammy Kershaw spoke of the disappearance of the true stylist who is putting out a sound and an ideal of his or her own ie Johnny Cash, George Jones, Loretta Lynn, or Merle Haggard. — The last time I saw Sammy Kershaw, the opening band was Emerson Drive, who incidentally had a number one song on the charts that very...

bchang says "Rising Down by The Roots is DEFINITLEY worth purchasing. " about The Roots

The roots are an amazing rap group, mos definitley. Infact I consider them a band. This is their 10th album out since 1993. They are honestly talented musicans. People that say hip hop is trash have definitley not hear The roots. But this CD in particular wasn't spectacular. It didn't blow all of their previous CD's out of the water but it is DEFINITLEY a breathe of fresh air from all of the bullshit in hip hop now a days. What I really like about their music is when they rap over instrumentals. because it is just so original and for some reason plays together so well. But in this CD and some of their newer ones they have begun to use computers to manipulate the beats. They still come out sounding great but it is definitley a different feel. They had a lot of guest appearances from styles p, talib kweli, mos def, common, and some other artists that are definitley worth mentioning but I cant remember off the top of the head. They even mix mos def and styles p into a song...

rjb37066 says "Incredible range of vocals!" about Celine Dion

This is great stuff. Celine is truly an amazing talent. If you get a chance to see her on tour this year to not pass it up! Its an incredible mix of old and new and will leave you in awe of her voice! — It doesn't matter if Celine is taking us back to the romance of jack and Rose from "Titanic" with her heart wrenching power-ballad — I like this CD, but what I bought it for...was the one song "I'm Alive!" I absolutely LOVE this song. I really prefer Southern Gospel Music, but I LOVE this song of Celine's...I'm Alive! The rest of the songs are good too, but this one is "one in a million", a never again made audio treat. — A year after she had learned English, Dion made her debut into the Anglophone market with Unison (1990).] She incorporated the help of many established musicians, including Vito Luprano and Canadian producer David Foster.[The album was largely influenced by 1980s soft rock music that quickly found a niche within the adult...

Telpher says "Where Have They Been All My Life?" about She and Him

The Band — A few months back, I read that actress Zoey Deschanel had joined a guy named M. Ward and formed a group called She and Him. I was excited about this. I've had Zoey's recording of Baby, It's Cold Outside (from the Elf soundtrack) on my Ipod for ages, and just marvelled at her voice. In fact, about a year ago my partner heard that recording, asked who the singer was and, and then replied, "It's not fair. Pretty. Good actress. And a great singing voice?!" Too true. — Anyhow, She and Him released their debut album, Volume One, a few months ago, but I only got around to getting it last week. I've made up for lost time by listening to it non-stop. Zoey's voice is really lovely. A friend of mine asked, after my first listen, "Don't you just want to wrap yourself in that sweet voice?" The answer is YES. The best way to describe it would be to say it's a little bit Karen Carpenter, a little bit Dusty Springfield, with some Cass Eliot thrown in, for good...

So I went out and bought the CD even though I dont usually because I often have songs on the CD that I dont like. That did not happen. I loved all the songs and still do. Her second CD I immediatly bought for my iPod. I didnt even have to hear it first. There are many things I love about her. First is her lyrics. All her lyrics have meanings. For instance she has a song about loving yourself for who you are, learning to be happy with what you have and many other good things. Also she has an amazing voice. The last thing I love about her is she is hip hop and pop mixed and the back beats are always great. If you havent listened to her yet I say go buy the albums right now....

LauraBelle says "And We Had Fun, Fun, Fun" about The Beach Boys

If ever there was a great set-up for a story, it's this one. We went down to visit my grandfather after my grandmother passed away, and switching hotels from a dirty, disgusting one, we broke the CD/alarm clock we were using to play the lullabye CD to help my daughter fall asleep at night. All parents can understand the horror of that moment, not knowing how you'll get your 18 month old to sleep. With no other choices, we put an oldies station on the radio for her, and it worked like a charm that night. Once we got home, we continued to play the oldies, instead of getting her a new CD player. — — Thus began my daughter's fascination with oldies music. She knows 'em all. The past year or so she's been borrowing her dad's Beach Boys CDs and eventually put them on her iPod. She loves the Beach Boys. I chanced upon the knowledge that this iconic band was going to be playing at the Cocoa Beach Pier on Spring Break, minutes away from my in-laws' house, and I knew we had to go....
