The Verizon Wireless Broadband is a good way to have internet access almost anywhere you can get a mobile phone signal. It is faster in urban areas, but I have been able to check e-mail in some fairly remote areas. The speed, condiered broadband, is not as fast as Cable or DSL, but a big jump from dialup....

After the hurricane and the electricity came back on, tryed out my internet service and it did not work. talked to some of the neighbors and they said theres was working so I called comcast. They said there were problems in the neighbor hood and would like to set up an appointment for september 22 between 11 am and 4 pm. someone would need to be home. No one showed up that day. Called back and they said they was very busy and would have some one out on the 25th and every thing would be working. Nothing that day so called back only to hear that they need to set up an appointment for the 29th between 11am and 4 pm and someone needs to be there.
OldHippie says "Includes Norton Protection Center" about SBCGlobal (AT&T Yahoo!)

For years I plugged along with dial-up, simply because I thought DSL would be too expensive. (DUH!) OK...I kicked myself in the butt. I will NEVER go back to dial-up. I'll do without the Internet before I go back to dial-up. — What I really like, as of about a year or so ago, AT&T Yahoo dropped their old anti-virus program from Computer Associates, and went with Norton. (Symantec) This is a MUCH BETTER program! And it's FREE! AT&T Yahoo also has a good to excellent "Help" section. I'd rather use Outlook Express for Email and it shows you how to set it up correctly. There are many other helpful topics listed. Just take your time & browse around. I know it's frustrating having a problem, but many times you can fix it yourself. Bottom line...if it's available in your area; get it. It's much faster than dial-up, and in many cases cheaper too. And my old dial-up did not include FREE Norton...

Sorry Comcast, but cable internet service slows down as more people in the area start to use it. At full capacity, it's the same speed as DSL. Plus, if you need a boost program, you're not that fast to begin with. All a boost program does is reload a web page in your history faster. New pages will not load faster. With a Dedicated Service Line, there's plenty of speed for our desktop and 3 laptops in this house (when friend visits and uses our wireless network). Finally, I'm ready to take those two derned turtles and make soup out of them! DSL is fast, reliable, and not subject to satellite interruptions when there's weather problems! — — This is the only aspect of ATT services that I have no complaints over. —...

lizzielezzie says "Great television and internet, but HORRIBLE customer service!" about Verizon FiOS Internet Service

We've had Verizon Fios Internet and Television service for a little over a year. The picture on our TV has never been more clear and the internet is super fast! We always completely pleased until we had a problem. Our power went out one day a few months back and when it came back up our tv and internet would not work. We called Verizon and it took us 45 minutes and 7 different people (some of which were incredible rude!) on their "help line" before someone knew some type of information to help us. And even then, it didn't work. So she was nice enough to schedule us an appoitment for one of their techs to come by and fix it. Only problem is, the earliest date they had was a week and a half away. So I was fuming that it took forever to talk to people who would help, and then actually didn't do anything. Then we had to wait a week and a half for someone to come here, flick a few buttons and fix the problem within 2 minutes. — All in all, I am pleased with the actual services they...

The internet is fast! 6.0Mbps for a standard and 8.0Mbps for a premium, I'm not even going to talk about power boost! I never had my internet go out, never have to touch the modem and it's always fast, peak times, mornings, middle of the night. I'm downloading so fast that each time I do it I'm surprised at how fast it is! — — I don't know what people are talking about restarting the modem, I never have to do that. Comcast also doesn't use the age old PPPoE interface like DSL does, making it way easier to network with a router. (If you ever hooked up DSL with a router you know what I'm talking about.) — — In the Chicagoland area the main competitor is AT&T DSL which runs at .768 Mbps!!! That's 7.8 times SLOWER! Now there is a single drawback to Comcast and that's cost, it's about double the price over DSL. I don't know about you but my time is valuable and I'm willing to pay for quality, reliable service. It's...

When I was living in an apartment, DSL was available. When I moved to my house, only dial up was available. It was extremely difficult to go from fast to extremely slow. I lived in my house for 3 years before DSL became available in my area. I was so excited. Then I discovered that I live 1,000 feet to far from a router. I spoke with the phone people about getting DSL in my area and the answer was not in the near future. I went door to door in my area and got 87 families to sign a list stating that they would use DSL if it was available int he area. The phone company just ignore me now. I tried to get Cable internet, but again, I lived too far,but only by 50 feet. I could now choose between satelite & broadband. I decided to go with Verizon for several reasons. Satelite was twice as expensive, slower, and had a lower limit by half. I have had Verizon Broadband for 3 months and am happy with it. I still...

Comcast High speed internet is a cable internet service that frees up your land line at home. Because the internet is only using comcast wires, you don't get the mix-up in communication that you might get when you use dial-up, there for the internet is a lot faster. — I grew up in a home where we were very interested in the new technologies. I've have apple IIE's and early versions of desktops. Our first internet provider was dial-up Prodigy. The graphics were much like that of an Atari game. The internet was super slow. but with every upgrade it seemed like the version before was a lot slower. Then I remember when we switched to dial-up AOL on a newer computer with Windows 3.1. I thought that this was a big step for technological advancements. I wasn't sure if anything could beat AOL, but then, just like Prodigy, with every upgrade of AOL and Windows, the connection seemed to get a little more faster. And alos in the mean...

Had FIOS for well over a year, both internet and TV. When I went to bundle in February, that's where all the major problems have come into play. When I rec'd my bill, it didn't show the bundled services, but actually increased almost $60.00. I went back and forth and was told had to click on a certain link for the bundle (never informed of this when I first ordered it). Of course, the link didn't work, so then I spent two days on the phone going back and forth with billing and tech services to try and starighten it out. Now my 2nd billing has come around and they have charged me over again, giving me the price of the bundling of when they were able to straighten it out, not when it as originally ordered, and an additional partial bundle charge (????)- I had already paid for it. So, we shall see if someone who may know what they're doing will assist. —...

Bellsouth is so slow, I have literally fallen asleep waiting for a page to load! In my area, I can only get dial-up at home. It infuriates me that I get weekly email and snail mail from Bellsouth (AT&T) promoting their high speed connections. Quit sending that crap to me if it's not available to me! Adding insult to injury is the ridiculously high price that they charge for such inferior service. I would NEVER recommend this ISP to anyone. I cannot say enough negative things about it. I would get rid of it, but my husband is still of the opinion that "slow internet is better than no internet". I do not share that opinion. Why can't I give this one 0 stars?
tweezle says "Over the past 2 years, DSL speed has dropped significantly!!!" about FrontierNet

My husband is a systems analyst, so he requires speed to be able to work from home. When we signed up with Frontier, we were guaranteed a speed of no less than 1MB. We were pleased with both the speed and the service. For a little over a year, we had absolutely no complaints. Sadly, when Frontier ran their promotion giving a free computer with the purchase of DSL, we watched our speed dwindle - especially after 4pm and on weekends. This made it difficult to impossible for my husband to work from home. There were nights he'd be called for a problem that he couldn't fix because our service was comparable to the service we had with dial-up. He would have to go in to work and fix a simple problem that could have been done from home. — — When Frontier was contacted, they said they never had an offer where speeds were guaranteed above 1MB - and they've only had DSL service UP TO 1MB!! Exactly what does "UP TO" mean? Interesting that they never offered a high speed DSL, because...

I've been with netzero for a good 10+ years and till this day I can honestly say that I've had no problems with the service, let me also add that I still use dial-up till this day and have never had any problems whatsoever. I've told many of my friends that unless their going to do brain surgery on someone while surfing the net than I could see the reason for DSL, but for the years I've had with netzero dial-up, I've never had a problem going from page to page or downloading for that matter and I think that their the only service that allows payment from a checking or savings account other than credit card. I can agree with the two gentlemen and their reasons for not liking Netzero, which is customer dissatisfaction rather than service dissatisfaction as per their comment, and as always to each his own.
