Well I have had the service for about a month now so I can only know so much. This internet service is mostly for those that don't have highspeed service in their area. But anyways it cost me 214 for the equipment and the first month service for the 768Kbps plan. Seemed like a fairly good price at the time as I looked into other providers and they usually have to have someone come out there and install it for you which would cost much more. The lowest monthly price is much cheaper than any other ISP provider I have found. It is easier for you to just install the dish yourself as you only have to pay for the equipment and first month of service with no install fees. How you aquire the signal is with their satellite beeper. It is actually fairly easy to use all you do is just have the cable coming from the modem screwed into the beeper and the other end plugged into the satellite LBN. They have a website that tells you the azimuth and elevation to have. The azimuth is the direction to point...
...

flybynite says "FIOS gives you great speed but avoid the extras" about Verizon FiOS Internet Service

I couldnt wait to get FIOS once I got my computer. The router is great as is technical support. They messed up a setting for my email and it was difficult getting it changed. compared to the other internet servers for high speed around I could not beat
FIOS for its price. If you are a gamer you can subscribe to various services ranging from 4.99 to 12.99 for a wide variety of games that is indeed worth it. As for their STARZ play for 5.99 a month if you have a home computer this service is unneeded. It you are frequently travelling you may like this service as you can view any movie currently on the STARZ channel. My biggest complaint is there security suite. Ranging in price from 5.99 to 29.99 a month it is pricier than going and buying even the best rated virus protection at Walmart. I downloaed the 5.99 one and it froze my computer. as long as I didnt need to go on the internet everything was great. But I could not log into my Email, play my online games, or even pay bills. It took...
...

I have MS, I work from home and on thursday july 9th I called my ISP AT&T for help with an email account in outlook, the tech wanted to connect to my computer remotely but could not, so he had me turn my firewall off, still he could not connect so he told me to turn my virus protection off, I did, and it took about 2 hours of him emailing back and forth to get it straight, when I hung up I turned my firewall back on, but could not turn my virus software back on, I rebooted my computer and SystemSecurity2009 was on my computer, it took over my desktop, and redirects my browser while intermittently running fake virus scans and telling you that your computer is infected. I spent a week talking to aproximately 90 different people and finally filed a claim with the AT&T company within a company, called Sedgewick, who has told me that it doesn't matter who I call or who I file a cliam with ie the BBB or State attorney General or the Federal Trades Commission, all they are going to do is...
...

RealityCheck says "SBC must mean "Slow But Cheap."" about SBCGlobal (AT&T Yahoo!)

After years of holding out, I've finally convinced my Aunts and Uncles to upgrade their PC's and abandon dial-up service for something faster. The best deal in their neighborhood was SBCGlobal, $25 versus $45 for Comcast. Since day one (two years ago) it's been slow, and it's only gotten slower with time. I've had their lines tested, and everything is clear. I recently called SBCGlobal to complain and was given an old-fashioned explanation about "too many cars on the information superhighway" and how "too many people in our neighborhood are on the node." It's so bad that I have watched my mother-in-law break into tears while trying to download pictures I've sent of her grandkids.

No matter the cost, stay away from SBCGlobal. Your time is too valuable to sit staring at a blank screen all day waiting for pages to load (or not). Shell out the extra green and get something that will improve your quality of life, not destroy it.
...

I signed up for comcast $20 offer on august 2nd (sunday), on the phone. the installation appointment was scheduled for tuesday but i thought it was thursday, so i missed it. later on tuesday the 4th i called tech support and "Jared" set up my own modem remotely. the internet worked great until Monday, when it started to only allow Comcast setup webpage. so i figured it's a typical comcast glitch and waited a day. i called tech support today (wednesday) and my account simply disappeared. tech rep transfered me to sales and "alex" said my location was disconnected on sunday the 2nd! Comcast's computer is clocking backwards and the employees are blindly following into its abyss. naturally i declined all further sales pitches. they better not send me a phantom bill. boycott comcast....

I have nothing good to say about AT&T. When it was SBC, it was great but when AT&T took over it went down hill fast. AT&T was charging me for services that I did not have. I called them and was told it would be taken care of. The next month, the charges would still be on my bill. I made more calls and even wrote the Corp. Office many times. This went on for a year unresolved. I finely turned them in to the BBB. The Corp. Office of AT&T lied to the BBB about several things. AT&T did credit my bill for charging me for services that I did not have. I thought the problem was solved. NOPE, the very next month the charges were on my bill. DSL was horrible. I could not be online five minutes with out it dropping the connection and it was slower than the dial-up that I had before them. The problem with AT&T was never resolved between us. Maybe AT&T has improved by now, but I would not recommend them to anyone.
...

My mother used NetZero for a few months but then upgraded to ATT DSL.

I just attempted to help her cancel her NetZero account. What a nightmare.

First, I had to call an 800 number and sit on hold for several minutes. Then, I had to communicate with a representative who isn't a native English speaker. Finally, when I made it clear to her that I really want to cancel and that I don't want any other services or billing, she said we'll give you a free month of backup service just in case your DSL has any problems, OK? I said, I want to cancel my NetZero account. She said, this is a free service. For one month we'll offer you this free backup service - blah, blah, blah, OK? I said, I don't want to pay for anything. She said it's free and runs through Sept 26. I said, OK, just cancel my account.

Well, I received a confirmation email that said congratulations on your NetZero upgrade. It didn't mention anything about me cancelling my account.

chukkmc7 says "Can't beat the speed, but price could be a lot better" about Verizon FiOS Internet Service

This is a review for Verizon Fios high speed internet. The biggest positive thing to say is easily the speed. I have been able to download very large files in the blink of an eye. I have rarely (if ever) noticed any kind of service interruption, so it is about as reliable as you could want. However, the price still leaves something to be desired. Like many families, we are now looking at ways to trim the budget a bit, and by far, our FIOS bill stands out as the largest bill every month. Comparitively speaking, I'm really not sure it's completely unreasonable, but Verizon definitely knows they have a hot product and they are pushing to get as much money for it as possible. A quick word about the installation experience - absolutely horrible. Be sure you talk DIRECTLY to Verizon for the installation date, and not to an authorized vendor. In short, TWICE they simply did not show up for the installation, saying they did not have it on their schedule properly or something. ...
...

Rrrrrrrr says "Their help lines are a NIGHTMARE!" about SBCGlobal (AT&T Yahoo!)

Keep in mind that i was a SBC Global customer for over 6 years. We had a phoneline and DSL. The internet service was decent for what were paying for it. But a few weeks ago we decided to try and save money getting rid of our phone line. Basically it would cut our bill in half. In my first conversation with the SBC rep, i was told it would be "no problem" I was told, "Your phone and internet will be shut off on Monday the 4th (of May) Your DSL may be out all day but will up the following day at the latest." She was right about one thing. Both services were disconnected on Monday. But the DSL NEVER came back.

So thats when the headaches start. Tuesday the 5th at the end of the day i checked our connection and there was nothing. I thought "I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Maybe it was difficult/they were busy/etc." I waited til Wednesday to call in. I first tried TECH SUPPORT. After some searching for my info they told me that there was problem with my order and they could not help...
...

Have been with Frontier Communications for our dsl service for almost 4 years. In that time I've watched our download speeds drop to as low as .24 mps and is never higher than 1.1 mps. Between the hours of 4PM and about 11PM our service is as slow as dial-up. Unfortunately, we live in a rural area of PA with few options. The local cable service only offers highspeed down/dialup for uploads and satellite is expensive and unreliable. If a fiber optic line ever ran down our little country road I would leave Frontier in a heartbeat.
...

jps246 says "I love my Verizon FIOS Internet Service" about Verizon FiOS Internet Service

I've had my share of internet service providers from dial-up services back in the day to cable modems and finally now, via Verizon's FIOS internet service. This service allows you to connect directly to Verizon's fiber-optic network to get some incredibly fast and reliable internet service.

The installation was simple enough, a Verizon tech took a few hours installing the connection between our house and the fiber-optic network. Once that was done, we had internet service. It's quick, it's fast and it's reliable. In the 3+ years that I've had the internet service, not once has it gone out, which is a lot more than I can say about the Comcast cable internet service I used to have before that.

Billing is simple. They have three different speeds available and each are billed at different amounts. I have the 2nd level speed since it came as part of a package, but I started with the slowest speed, which was still faster than Comcast. I'm not sure why you'd need the fastest speed,...
...

We've had Fios Internet for a while now and the service in pretty good. Speeds a good and there is little to no down time. We also have ours set up as a wireless network and it works pretty well.

The problems came when a Verizon rep knocked on the door to see if we wanted to bundle our services. So we agreed that bundling TV and Internet would save a few dollars a month, we would keep our internet the same and the TV would be comprable to our existing service. In addition we were offered the rebate for bundling services.

Service was installed and we proceeded to contact customer service to get the rebate. No joy, firstly they said we didn't have any service with them! unusual since they are our current internet provider.....to cut a long and frustrating story short, they eventually found our customer records, did in fact agreed that they provided our service and then said we were not entitled to the rebate because our services were not bundled!!!

Verizon Fios, how do I love thee??? Let me count the ways... My husband is an IT guru, so of course he jumped on the Fios wagon the moment it was available in our area. Quite honestly, I don't know how we functioned before the is service. (Yes I do... at snail speed) I am in love with this whole Fios package! This is the best service we have had to date, and trust me, we have tried them all. The upload and download speeds are lightning fast. Our family is scattered around the nation so we often post photo albums, that used to take at least 5 minutes to upload. Now, within 30 seconds my pictures are online and I am ready to go! Our service is never down. Verizon is an amazing company to work with. We even got a check in the mail to reimburse part of our cancellation fees with other companies when we signed up for the "trio" package. For a fee significantly lower than our former cable bill we now have premium HDTV, Internet, and telephone services, all thanks to Verizon Fios! This is a great...
...

OK so here's the deal, my husband is a beekeeper so we travel between ND and TX. While in ND we have fiber optics at the fastest speed possible and it's absolutely wonderful but when we get down to TX we are stuck with the slowest dial-up...28(whatchamacallits) if we are lucky!

This year I convinced my husband to just give this thing a try. I was told that where ever you get phone service from your Verizon phones this too will get a signal. And it does, and it works great...well not as great as my ND fiber optics but I'm so happy with the faster Internet connection down here I'm noting going to complain.

Also some great news...people who steal your Internet through the wireless stuff can't do it with this. We have a hired man that lives on the same property down here, he has the iPod touch with Internet capabilities, he was very upset to find out that he can't just stand by our house and connect to the Internet like he did with some of the people up in ND who have the wireless set up.
Cruciel says "Want slow speeds, up to 30% packet loss, and awful tech support?" about FrontierNet

Among many things, the local tech support they have hired are all over the age of 30 and more-than-likely uncertified redneck ignorant ... I think I'll stop there. They have 100s of Information Technology and Information Systems students to choose from if the needed more qualified employees. Here's the bottom line about this company: THEY DO NOT CARE!

Let me explain to you how their process works. They get you to sign a contract saying "You must pay us for x amount of time in order to get our service" where x equals most likely more than a year. They also are the only local DSL company in Statesboro, so they have even less of a reason to care. They provide DSL to all of the student housing apartments, meaning the lease offices pay for their services in bulk and include the actual DSL fee into each student's individual rent. This is why this company continues to suck on and on for years and years without improving the quality of its lines.

Since I've moved to Statesboro, the connection has......

adria says "Works where I live in the country. Not great though." about Verizon Wireless Broadband

Out where I live there isn't DSL available. We were on dial up but was tired of the slowness. I bought a laptop and figured I'd get broadband from Verizon since we have our phones there too. The price kinda shocked me and the 2 year contract was worse. It works great in the city or anywhere you have atleast 3 bars. Where I live I'm lucky to get one bar. On a good day I get spotty 2 bars. The signal constantly goes in and out between just a flashy dot and one bar. While I don't have great signal at my house it is faster than dial up still. I can't watch any videos because signal isn't great out here. I have my internet on constantly and have never went over my 5GB limit a month. I take my computer with me to town if I want to download music because out here it takes forever....

The Verizon Wireless Broadband is a good way to have internet access almost anywhere you can get a mobile phone signal. It is faster in urban areas, but I have been able to check e-mail in some fairly remote areas. The speed, condiered broadband, is not as fast as Cable or DSL, but a big jump from dialup....
