jcarfree says "Dish Network is OK. " about Dish network

Dish Network has been my sattelite provider for at least 5 combined years. I cancelled and didn't have any service for about a year, but when I got service again, I went back to Dish Network, mostly because their dish was still on my roof and I thought it would be the easiest thing to do. My parents have Verizon cable service and I like theirs better because they have On Demand. The service allows you to view programs that they save. They don't save everything, so you have to select from their choices. But it's a nice feature if you want to watch TV and can't find anything interesting on at the moment. Dish Network doesn't have that service. They have a pay-per-view feature, but this On Demand feature doesn't cost anything (or at least it doesn't have to). Plus, you don't need to be connected to your phone line to use it. I don't have a home phone so I can't just order a movie from my TV. I have to actually call them on the phone to order a movie. The Dish Network DVR is good. I'm...

I love Directv. Pay per view, UFC fights, what's not to love? We have had no problems in the 8 years we've had the service. Prices keep rising, but what doesn't go up in price? Very few service interruptions, unless there is alot of wind, which really only happens during Hurricane season here in Florida. Overall, very pleased. Like...

Vora says "Horrible Service Provider " about DIRECTV

I thought of subscribing for directv and unbelivable all the time they did not keep the appointment. They ask you for the time you want the person to come your home for providing service I selected 4:00 - 8:00 came home taking half day from the office and the person had come at 2:50 and kept the note customer not at home. This happened twice. In the fear to not to loose job because of Direct TV i scheduled for Saturday. When I called to ask they said technician wil not be able to come today so we need to reschedule. I have scheduled one more last time to find out if they can keep the appointment and this time i have told them that they are my customer and they give me the time and day instead of me selecting it. Overall I have never seen such a bad service provider. Their customer service is horrible keeps on giving you new number... —...

We have had dish network for a couple years now and for the most part we really like it. I really enjoy the pay per view movies. It's nice to just order a movie on the TV and not have to worry about going out to rent a movie and getting it back on time. The only thing that we don't like is when it rains, snows, or storms you loose satelite reception for a little...

So far Directv has been great to me. Had it for about 10 years. The picture quality is way better than cable. Theres no fuzz or snow. Only an occasional pixelating in bad weather. Sometime it doesn't even show at all. My signal only goes out when its really pouring. The only thing is that its one room dependent. Meaning, you can't split the cable and run it to other rooms, like in cable. Otherwise, its great. And the on screen menu is a great...

The only reason we selected DirecTV and the only reason we've stuck with it as long as we have was the NFL ticket. The NFL ticket was our only real option for watching our home team when we are not in the local market. But our experience has consisted of one technical headache after another followed by incredibly poor customer support. — — Our first hurdle happened at the initial install about three years ago. We had two standalone TiVo's networked together, but the DirecTV sattelite receivers didn't respond very well to TiVo signals sent to change the channel. To work at all, we'd have to use their flimsy IR blasters, which seemed to introduce quite a bit of lag to changing the channel. I'd read about other receivers that worked better with our TiVo setup, so I went out and purchased them. Once they were installed, everything worked just fine. — — Then DirecTV downloaded a firmware update to our receivers that broke the...

Cable claims many things, Dish however delivers. The wealth of HD and International programming is just not there with cable. And those weather blackouts? I've had one in 10 years. Cable used to go out every other month! Friendly, efficient customer service, always the latest technology, and if anything, I ha ve way more channels than I could ever want. The DVR is much better than Tivo, it's very user friendly, and literally adds hours to my...

Overall the 12 months I had the service was good. Of course, I didn't have to call them for any issues until the $270 charge for early cancellation appeared on my bank statement. I was told it would be $130 or $140. — The first call took about 10 minutes to explain the issue and then I was transferred to a Supervisor where I waited for 20 minutes to be told no, the charge was correct and nothing could be done. — After cooling off and thinking about it, I went on-line to view the bill and found that because I had canceled service, my bills were no longer available to view. That surprised me so another call to Customer Service. The Representative I talked to explained what made up my charges. I had a two-year agreement that started in Dec 07 and so early cancel fee was $260. Another $10 was charged because I canceled service and had the protection service. I will say that it was a first to be charged a cancellation fee for...

ADSLA says "Insulting and expensive" about DIRECTV

Directv used to be great, emphasis on used to be. When I moved in October 2007 I called to change my address and they offerred me a new movers' special. It included half the season of NFL Sunday Ticket and all available channels, with a free downgrade to whatever package I wanted afterwards. — When I moved the tech told my dad (I had to work so he talked to the tech) that I needed a new receiver and to toss the old one. He also didn't hook up the DVD/VCR like he was supposed to. — I never had time to watch all the channels after I moved and NFL Sunday Ticket still blacked out good games including my favorite team, which isn't local. — I went to the web to downgrade my package in March and looked at my account then saw that they had been charging me for a second receiver all this time. I called customer service, who said I was supposed to call them and deactivate the frirst receiver. The tech never said anything about that. Directv has updgraded my receiver...

I have been with Dish for over three years and I really get tired of all the special deals only being for "NEW" customers. Why don't the rest of us rate some kind of loyalty discount? If it wasn't such a hassle, I'd be tempted to jump between providers just so I would always be a "NEW" customer. The service provided by Dish is fairly reliable, much more so than cable, but I still get the feeling we established customers are being taken for...

This company rocks. We have had them for several years. When we made our last move the technician was here for 5 hours working on getting it set up.

When my cable bill started to rise, I decided to look into other options. I decided to go with Dish Network because their initial startup costs were cheaper than DirecTV and at the time the channel lineups in comparison of the two were basically the same. While I'll admit that I still pay less with Dish Network than I was with Comcast Cable, the customer service and billing practices are almost non-existent with Dish Network. The package I signed up for is America's Top 200 with Showtime. According to the sales rep, I was supposed to be paying approximately $80-90 for the first 10 months and the go up to approximately $103 per month thereafter for the next 4 months. After that, my bill would be approximately $113 with a price guarantee for 2 years (my rate was locked in for 2 years). Around 2 months following the start of my service, my wife and I decided to build a house. I called Dish Network and asked if they had any programs to put off my service during the 6 months it would take...

We have had Dish for 8-9 years you would think with that kind of track record there would be an occasional perk of some kind. NOT! We recently had to replace a reciever and they wanted to charge me full price. Then my dish it's self got messed up and needed replaced that cost me an arm and a leg. I asked why they offer all kinds of specials to new subscibers and nothing to old faithful viewers. They didn't have an answer. I haven't had cable in over 20 years so can't rate its comparison to it. There are lots of channels but is it worth what you pay. Why can't we pick and choice our package to price packages per so many channels? We don't view over half of what I pay for but would love to have others that aren't in my package. Go figure. I guess we like it cause we are still with them though. Getting rebates takes awhile and sometimes many calls to customer service for explaination on why it hasn't been credited. Overall I would say it is a 50-50...
