kevinpfeiffer22 says "Do not get DirecTV. Check the Better Business Bereau Website" about DIRECTV

DirecTV has an "F" on the Better Business Bereau (BBB) Website. This company took money from me multiple times that I did not owe them. They keep your bank account information on hand and take money out of your account without notifying you. They charged me twice for an HD reciever that they claimed they sent to me and I did not send back. Neither time did I ask for or recieve such a reciever. Taking money from someone when they don't owe you anything is theft I don't care if you are a company or not. They are very irresponsible with your private information and the customer service is the worst I have ever experienced. They cause problems and then can't resolve them in a timely manner if at all. Let alone all the hidden charges. This company will get 240 dollars from me to cancel my contract then they can come pick their equipment up off the curb. Check out the BBB website, it just didn't happen to me. Terrible company.
...

directvsucksbigdick says "I'd rather spend my time in a strait jacket in a padded room" about DIRECTV

0 stars! The costumer service for this company is nearly non-exsistant. I've had the service for a week now and the crap has never worked. There was a constant searching for signal bar that blocked a large portion of the screen, and the on demand never worked. I never signed the contract because when they installed it it didn't work. The tech guy said he'd call me back with in 24 hours, never did. After a few days we called the company again, the response i got was, the tech will call you within 24 hours. never got a call, and he ignored our calls to him. And after not signing the contract, they now want to charge me a cancelation fee for the service that never worked as it was supposed to. On top of that, the one time we had an appointment for the tech crew to come here, anywhere from 8-10 in the morning, never showed up. This company i think lost their costumer service department, however I'm not entirely sure of that. And my rating is no stars, not one, because they deserve just that,...
...

The service at Direct TV is horrible. First of all, you are dealing with a person, who knows where, that is reading from a script to trouble shoot your problem. To them, we are all idiots. During the trouble shoots you become qualified as a Direct TV technician since YOU are doing all the testing, moving cables around, going in the attic to look at the Multi Switch or climbing on the roof to look at the dish. Not only does the customer not know what they are looking at in most cases, but the service representative cannot find what you are seeing in his/her script, so you have to be transferred to a different department. There you get to start over with your phone number and perform all the tasks you have already spent an hour doing with the first person. When they finally decide that the system is broken (the lights aren't even on, DUH!), they decide to make an appointment to send out a technician, who, by the way are all contractors rather than employees. This could take...
...

I love being able to watch one program and record another. I also like being able to record 2 shows at once. The prices are good and beat cable by a mile. I have 3 different movie channels (each with several channels within themselves) and all the expanded channels and pay less than $100 a month. You can get pay per view and you can block the adult channels, which is important to me. The have great customer service as well. I have had Directv for over 2 years and the prices did go up a little when my first contract expired but not by much. I made some adjustments when I called about my contract and they were more than willing to work with me and allow me to make changes that saved me money and they even suggested a few things that helped me save even more money. My first try to customer service got me someone who couldn't speak english very well, but I just asked for an english speaking Customer Service Rep and they transfered me to Colorado and I asked if I was going to...
...

The service is terrible and you don't get anything that they advertise. They shut you off if you don't pay the bill on the day its due. And they don't care what your excuse is. No extra time whatsoever. They are rude over the phone and when you call them it takes about 30 minutes to grt a human being on the phone.I can't get a dvr and i only can get service in 2 rooms. And now i'm stuck with it.On top of everything else they send me stuff in the mail saying i'm qualified for some promotion or another and then when i call them it's no deal! I recommend this company to no one. And the better business bureau has a million complaints and there is a lawsuit involved!
...

I signed up for DISH NETWORK's service verbally agreeing to a 12 month contract during which time they were to provide the service for which I signed up for. From the beginning I have never received the channels I am paying for. In the past 10 months technicians have been out several times to correct the problems we are having as the signal is not strong enough. They have said there is nothing more that they can do. Techs have stated on two separate occasions that they should have never installed the equipment due to trees on the property blocking the signal.

I am still ony getting about 1/4 of the channels I am paying for. I called today to cancel the service and spoke to supervisor Natalie (operator ID DE8) who stated I will owe $140 cancellation fee as I agreed to a 24 month contract. I explained I agreed to 12 months not 24 months and I also never signed a contract. She said who ever was there at the time of the install signed it. My mother was the one who was there and she asked the...
...

We love our television, probably too much. We decided to go without any television service for the spring, summer, and early fall. Then as the Holidays drew near we needed it back. We decided to give DirecTV a shot since they advertised the best price. We enrolled online, they showed up and installed the service very quickly, and the installer was very pleasant and easy to deal with. That's where the good times ended. We lost the service during the first heavy rain (a week after installation.) We called in a service order and it took a week and a half to schedule the service. While awaiting the service we noticed that our bill was higher than it was supposed to be (actually twice as much.) We also noticed that the first bill had been marked as paid even though we had not authorized a debit from our account. After checking our account we noticed that it was not taken out. Assuming it must have been an error we called to let them know that someone else's payment had been applied to our account....
...

I have recently moved into my brother's house due to the fact that he could no longer afford the payment and choose to move to a rental. I called to get directv set up in my home. Directv told me that I would have to pay a $200.00 deposit and that each month part of that deposit would be applied back to my bill. That was fine, so I gave them my bank card information. They took the money from my account. I called to confirm my installation I was told to call another number. When I called I was told that my brother had not paid his bill from them in 2008 and until the bill was paid that they could not set up service for me and asked "Can you take care of this today". I told them it was not my bill and I was not willing to pay it. When I asked about my money I was told that it was nonrefundable and the only thing was dispute it through my bank. When I did this directv told my bank that my installation was never canceled so no refund could be issued. I called back and was given another number,...
...

NMiller says "Pricing likely to change on you randomly" about Dish network

I decided to get Dish Network because it was a way to get HD channels without paying an arm and a leg. When I signed up, I was told my total monthly bill would be $29.99. I was excited because I thought this was a great price. But, when I got my first bill, it was for $34.99 plus tax. I called and talked to a representative who basically told me that my old representative was wrong but there was nothing I could do about it. They wouldn't even waive the fee for me to break my contract, which in my opinion they already broke by not giving me the price they promised. Whatever, I decided I still wanted the service for the extra $5/month, but that still made me pretty mad.

But then I got a lovely letter in the mail (only 3 days after I got my very first bill) informing me that my bill would increase to $39.99 the following month because of Dish Network's increased operating costs. I called customer service again, but still got no help. So, basically I'm now stuck in a two-year...
...

When I was taking the connection, Dish had promised that the Cinemax will be free for an year at a penny and also offerred HBO/Starz for 3 months. I called them after 3 months to disconnect HBO/Starz, they took off the Cinemax along with that.

I called after a month to check on the same and they said that the promotion was over. I mentioned that I was promised Cinemax for an year however the Supervisor was not even ready to listen to me.

I would not do business with DIRECTV again if my life depended on it. I canceled my service almost two years ago and paid my last bill twice by accident. I have been writing, calling, and filing complaints to get my refund ever since. They acknowledged that I over paid by nearly $100.00 and have promised to issue the refund repeatedly. It is always the check is in the mail or it will be six to eight weeks. There representatives will lie to you and say I am processing the refund as we speak, but no check. Attempts to speak to a manager or supervisor will get you put on hold for several minutes and you will be disconnected before the supervisor gets on the line.

Don't believe the hype. Their satellite service is not that good and their customer service is horrible. If you are considering switching to DIRECTV, I urge you to reconsider.
...

I switched from Directv to Dishnetwork, becasue the monthly cost was $30 less then Directv. I enjoy Dishnetwork, but I am missing my Directv. The DVR with dishnetwork only lets you record one program and you cannot watch another channel while that program is recording, unless the 2nd dvr in the other room is set to the channel you want to record. With Directv I could record a channel while watching another channel at the same time. I really wish Dish Network had this feature. What I do like about it though, is my recorded programs can be viewed on either Television that has the DVR hooked up. And only one box is required for the entire home. I have 4 televisions with Sattelite tv and only one receiver. Not so with Directv. So they both have their pros and cons, but my preference is with Directv. I only switched because I am saving about $60 a month by combining my home phone, internet and sattelite services. If it weren't for that I would still be with Directv. Blame it on the......

Living on a strict budget is not easy, but I still wanted some comforts. After doing some research when looking for cable providers I settled on DirecTV for two reasons. The first is because my parents were already subscribers and I could take advantage of discounts through them, which made it substantially more affordable, and the second was because I was familiar with them. Even with these attributes I would have gone with Dish Network if they installed satellites above the second floor in apartment buildings, but they don't and I live on the third floor, so they would not install in my building. I was incredibly disappointed, but decided to go with DirecTv because I have had a good experience in the past and they fit with my budget. After a year with them my price will almost double for monthly service, and I am at the most basic package they offer. I am probably going to go with whatever provider I can find the cheapest package with. So I guess they don't do a good job...
...

tiggerlas says "Dish Network reasonable pricing and decent Quality" about Dish network

We recently switched from DirectTV to Dish Network because of Pricing. Overall The two are similar in packages, but Dish Network pricing is more in line with the common man. The picture is clear and of a decent quality. We do not have HD. The variety of channels is decent, but I have little use for Sirrius Radio and find those channels to be more of a nusiance. Our plan gave us Cinemax for 1 Cent for a year, but thus far the movies on it are pretty poorly rated by viewers. So skip getting Cinemax if you have to pay more.

Some of the cons to Dish Network is the guide. It is pretty bland to look at and the remote is overly complicated. The book is also a bit of a nightmare in trying to find out how to resolve an issue. For example the receiver changed to single mode and it took 15 minutes to find that the fix was to push a button on the receiver to change back to dual mode. Once things are set up, it becomes second nature.

byging says "DirecTV is just okay" about DIRECTV

There is really nothing special about DirecTV except that you are really going to be drug through the dirt if you want to talk with someone who actually works for the company. In my local yellow pages all the phone numbers for DirecTV are for independent contractors who will hook you up and install your dish. When I finally got the number for a real DirecTV office I learned that I had called the wrong office. After several attempts at getting the right office I finally got the right number but was forced to wade through one of those hideous phone tree things. Once I got one of their reps on the phone they were pleasant and helpful.

The dish, however, is another issue. The guy who came out, I guess is from one of those contractors, and pointed the dish directly at my neighbor's tree. Whenever the wind blows our reception goes out. But that's not the problem of DirecTV, they are going to send out another contractor.

I wish DirecTV would stand behind their product and stop pawning off responsibility....
...

Stay Away! Bait and switch! Very very bad customer service!. As soon as you sign the contract you are nothing to them. I didn't think there were still companies in business who treated their customers so badly. I asked for 2 HD receivers but only got one. They said that since they sent me an order confirmation and I didn't catch the mistake it was too bad and would now cost $165.00 to fix. What!!! I finally got a supervisor on the phone and she agreed to knock off $50. OK cool so what is the new total? She says $205.00. What!! It was $165 before you took the $50 off. She says oh, I'm sorry but the other girl didn't add it up right. After that I just hung up before I busted a blood vessel or something. I submitted a complaint on the web site but never heard back. To top it off I went online and I can get an HD receiver delivered and installed for $165 just like the first girl said. So to sum it all up: There was a bait and switch and when I called to rectify it a supervisor lied and tried...
...

MAC446 says "Dish Network better service than Comcast" about Dish network

I have had Dish Network for about a year now. The customer service is much better than Comcast Cable which is why I made the switch. I have not been on hold for a very long time waiting for someone. Everyone I spoke with has been very nice and helpful. Other good things include the DVR service is much better than Comcast cable. I have yet to be told that I need to delete things I have DVR'd and I have recordings set up for all new episodes of several shows. It seems with cable I would get a notice that I cannot record something new until I delete something. I would say that after the initial reduced offer ended it is about the same price as cable. The worst thing is that the reception is determined by the weather. If there is a bad storm it can go out. The good part is that it has not been for very long. It can range from 5 minutes to maybe 20 minutes. Overall I am happy with Dish Network.
...

I switched to Dish Network when I moved to the other side of town. It was a cheaper deal than cable, plus it seemed to offer many more channel options. I am satisfied overall, but not to the point that I would consider myself an advocate. I subscribe to the 250 channel option. I had to get this package to include some channels that I watch regularly. A large portion of the channels are shopping, religion or Hispanic. There are 2 channels that I would be interested in receiving, but would have to upgrade to the next level. Dish Network does not offer any channels that I didn't get with cable. The inclusion of Sirius XM is a nice touch, if I want to have music in the house. There are other music options, but I don't listen to them much. Dish is easy to use, and the guys who installed it were very professional. The picture clarity is great, and the included DVR is very good. The signal does seem to go out quite often, if only for a minute or two. I like that one receiver...
...

I had service men out to fix a "loss of signal" 2 times without fixing the problem. On the third time we couldn't get signal I called and canceled the service losing faith in their ability to correct the issue. I canceled the service 05/19/09 with them owing me $48.98

I started getting phone calls on my cell phone from Dish asking for a payment of $61.02 charging me an early disconnection fee of $110.00

08/19/09 I spoke with a Dish supervisor and was told there are only 3 cases where the early termination fee is waived.

1 Death
2 Active service
3 Being put in a nursing home

How many times should we take off work to let them try and fix it? 4,6,10??? No! Sham on you for trying to take advantage of the little guy.

I filled a complaint with the Better Business Beauru BBB of CO. CASE#: 75090559
...
