Now a days our kids are heavily influenced by the media they interact with, see and hear. Common Sense Media rates and reviews thousands of movies, songs, video games, web sites, TV shows and books based on age appropriateness. They rate on violence, sex, language, consumerism, drinking, drugs, smoking, message and role model's. You will receive personalized age appropriate recommendations for all of your kids. Their goal is to give trustworthy information, tools, and tips so you can decide what will work best for your family and have a choice in the media that you consume. You can read, write and comment on reviews from other parents and kids. They will let you know the minimum age for which the content is appropriate or relevant and by star ratings, if the content is any good or not and how enjoyable it is. Sometimes content is age appropriate but a huge waste of your time and money. You can even personalize their site for your kids to write reviews too! Be sure to sign up for their weekly...
...

NMiller says "Not so good" about Lightspeed Panel

Pros:

The lightspeed panel has many surveys available everyday. You only qualify for them about half of the time, but there are so many, that you can get many rewards.

You have a variety of rewards to chose from. You can get payed with PayPal, get gift certificates, CDs, music downloads, merchandise, etc.

I once got to join a "research chat room" that paid me a lot for just logging to and chatting with other member for a couple of days. That was cool, but it only happened once.

Cons:

They really cheat you. I often will fill out a survey for 150 points and receive no point or 75 points for the survey. I've been a member for about 6 months and have lost at least $15 due to them not rewarding the correct number of points.

You will NEVER get a response from lightspeed if you have a complaint or question. If you get the wrong number of points for a survey, too bad, because you can email them all you want (trust me, I once emailed them twice a day for three weeks and never got...
...

I have been satisfied for the most part with Lightspeed Panel. It's not a lot of money fast, but it's extra pocket money. Lately, the surveys have had me work for 10 minutes or so and then decide I don't qualify. What's going on? It used to be that 5-7 questions would determine qualification. Based on the questions, I believe they are getting the data they are after, then giving the disqualification message. Twice in the past few days I have gotten 8-10 questions into a survey, then it just takes me back to the Members page with no rewards given and no chance to finish the survey, and no message as to what is going on. The events of the past few weeks have gotten really fishy, and I'm wondering if Lightspeed is going the way of some of the more shady sites. It would be sad if this is true. I'm starting to wonder if Lightspeed is under new management. That would make sense with the reduction in legitimate activity lately.
...

brenviewer says "One of the best resources to help you make the right purchase." about Consumer Reports

Consumer Reports Magazine is our only subscription. We often rely on Consumer Reports reviews to make the best decisions on what we'll buy and how much we should expect to spend on it.

One of the great things about Consumer Reports is that as a parent, we can learn about children's toys that have been recalled or have safety issues.

Consumer Reports helps identify not only which items are the best overall values, but you can look at the rankings and see which ones may be cheaper without too much difference in quality.

For example, this month's issue has a best value laptop listed as the 15" Apple MacBook Pro listed at $1,500. I'm shopping for my daughter who's in her freshman year of college and while she wants a MacBook, that's both out of our range and too much computer for her right now for what she needs. However, ranked just 19 points below the MacBook is a $400 Dell Inspirion 1545 laptop. Using Consumer Reports' comparison as a help, I can determine for myself that the...
...

RRNewYork says "YELP promotes a horrific place with untruthful review to do biz" about Yelp.com

Yelp is a despicable place to review. I have rarely seen any biz accurately reviewed on yelp, and worse, I own one that has horrible reviews on yelp. The worse part about it - is no matter how many times I prove some of the horrible reviews are lies, yelp just doesn't care. One of the terrible reviews about my biz on yelp claims we are on the 4th floor. We are not. We are on the 1st. One of the negative reviews says we do not have a street viewing property. Another lie. Yelp is a place where ex-disgruntled employees can try and ruin their former employer also by writing false info to try to get consumers to do biz elsewhere. In our biz we are also able to collect medical info about our customers. So we know who is mentally unstable, on anti-depressants, suicidal, etc. Unfortunately there is no disclaimer for the medically ill to spew untruthful garbage on yelp. Of course not all do this - but the ones that do are unforgettable as they are the most damaging. This...
...

ThisNext.com kinda reminds me of Viewpoints. Only you dont earn the whole points thing. But thats not too important to me. I have a ton of fun on this site and have a million recommendations and reviews there as well. Registration is free and its really easy to use, which is another reason I love it. Its user friendly and super easy to navigate and add your own products if it isnt already on there.

As long as there are no technical issues, this place is great. I have been able to accumulate rewards here faster than most other online survey places. However, if you ever have any problems with anything, you can forget them ever writing you back. I really don't know why they even bother having an email address, I doubt anyone even reads it. Every time I've been given a survey that will give me more than 300 points, something has gone wrong at the very end and I have not been given these points. The first few times I just let it go, it wasn't that big of a deal, but the last time I was supposed to get 500 points, and the survey took me over half an hour to complete. It was one of the most aggravating surveys I have ever taken in my entire life. I got all the way through it, even to the page where lightspeed asks you to review the survey, and then when I clicked "submit" it went to a page that says "this webpage is not available". I emailed lightspeed about this, and they...
...

I joined the "She Speaks" (shespeaks.com) website a couple months ago. Membership is free. When you join you can write reviews on all kinds of products and services you have had experience with. It's similar to this website. It's a great place to help you decide what to spend your money on. It is a site geared towards women but men can join. Membership is free. The site promises never to ask you to pay a fee or buy anything. They also promise never to sell or share your personal information.

She Speaks is not a corporate sponsored website and they want women to be completely honest in thier reviews. They also have weekly polls, free samples and member offers. Furthermore, there is a discussion board where women can write about life stages, share recipes, share beauty secrets, ask for adcive, etc. As a member you may be asked to take part in product testing. If you say yes, they will mail you a full size product to try. In return, all you have to do is review the product. Some members...
...

Saxguy says "Yeah, there are flaws, but it's still very good for me" about Epinions

I've been a writer at Epinions for over 9 years. Yes, the site has its flaws, however, I like it and I will continue to write there.

I enjoy the earnings potential inherent in writing a hot review. I've had a few reviews (over a long time) generate more than $100 cumulatively, and others well into double digits, generally in electronics, computer hardware or computer software.

I also enjoy reviewing saxophones, clarinets and supplies, as I do at Viewpoints. I had originally been attracted to VP because band instruments and supplies were not reviewable at Epinions, something I disliked until they corrected it. I also think their financial resources have improved, as they were acquired by Ebay a few years back.

That having been said, people are clique-ish over there, and there are members who use their influence in a mean or arbitrary way. Still the Lead people in the two categories I have status in, musical equipment and sports and outdoors, are very nice, accessible and helpful.

I have joined several and quit a few due to lack of incentives or other reasons. One site I have grown to like better over the years is Lightspeed Panel, an on- line web service that awards gifts and/or cash for taking surveys.

Web Site Commentary:

Becoming a Lightspeed Panel member begins by logging into the web site and signing up. This requires entering your name, making up a password, and answering a few questions about yourself. Once your membership has been verified, you can start taking surveys as they become available. Surveys are sent to members periodically via e-mail and it is also possible to receive offers in the mail. The e-mail method is most common and once an offer arrives, it will be complete with a link to click to logon to the site and go directly to the survey. The point value and estimated time for completion will...
...

I came across Yelp when I was looking for a site that was better than Epinions and I saw that people are respectful of you on Yelp. It's gotten to the point that many review sites seem to gain an audience of immature adults many who are married or in relationships with children acting immature and trashing people's reviews even going as far as emailing them threatening messages and other ridiculous high school level behavior.

I ended up finding a really good washer and dryer repairman named Robert aka "The Fix It Guy" who is highly rated on Yelp for his professionalism and prompt service. If anyone's going to find a good repair man or service or business will find it all on Yelp because the users who are awesome are mature adults who are not on there clowning and trashing people's reviews as if they're entitled to do so. This place is way better than Angie's List which charges an annual fee to be a member when being a member of Yelp is 100% free and you can meet some really cool people...
...

Have you ever been to a site so inadequate, so laughable, so vile, you wonder how the heck could it exist? Epinions is that site.

I’ve read most of the reviews on here, and they’ve all nailed the point especially toward the nasty members and advisors to the site.

I am AnimeMovieMan a member for about a year on site. Epinions has got to be one of the worst sites the Internet has ever seen. Their whole reputation is built on lies “unbiased reviews” a family friendly site. Oh really a site that encourages it’s members and advisors to harass, revenge rate, stalk, and even issue death threats to members a family site? I think not.

I) The pay on the site was worthless. Reviews were literally just pennies. In fact, the terrible abusive management at the site, didn’t even pay me for the reviews I had written.

I happend to see this site listed and I have to admit, I am addicted to it. I've read the imput and also searched the internet for feedback. I think it's great when companies put their information out there, I only wish they were more black and white about it. Companies need consumers input so they know how to tweak their products. The fact that the companies that need input are the items I use daily, I was so glad to give my input and get paid doing it. I make a couple of dollars giving my opinion. What I love more is receiving samples of new foods, deodorants, body washes, juice in the mail. In return, I simply answer a few questions about what I thought about it, would I buy it, does my kid like it?

The claims about making a ton of money are a bit overated. You would have to join 100 companies to make a full time wage. If you are interested in some neat products to try this site reviews some of them.
...

Aupairclearinghouse is a national news website that helps host parents find an au pair agency and au pair for their children. New host parents will especially find this website very useful as they not only review all the usa au pair agencies (costs, different programs, etc.) but they also provide useful tips and advice, host parents share complaints, advice on Family Forum and there is also a blog. My husband and I found the website invaluable for finding an agency and during the interviewing process when we were trying to nail down our au pair! I highly recommend any family who is considering an au pair to read this website first. New Host Parent
...

cubbybears says "100 Hot Sites is the place to go to find top websites." about 100 Hot Sites

100 Hot Sites is the place to go to find the top websites on the Internet in a variety of categories. You can find the Web's best in shopping and travel, as well as more eclectic categories like marketing, hobbies and auctions.

100 Hot Sites uses public information and its own reviews to compile its rankings of the top websites. The home page features the top five websites in each category, and by clicking the "More Hot Sites" button you're directed to a category page where you can choose from a list of subcategories to narrow your search. For example, if you click "More Hot Sites" in the Business category, then on the next page you can refine your search and find the top ranked sites for Online Business.

After narrowing your search, you'll be directed to a results page that resembles a Google Search. Do not be confused! You are not on a Google Search. You are on a 100 Hot Sites page that has been assembled by the website using their rankings system that I previously mentioned. You can,...
...

patchick says "every item I have ever looked up on viewpoints" about Viewpoints

I just have to say how much I have enjoyed refering to viewpoints on almost every single item I have purchased since I became aware of this web site. I can not imagine ever purchasing another item without first consulting with this site and opions posted here. I am so very grateful to all of these people and their honest opinions about products so that I don't have to make such costly mistakes anymore. Every time I have had questions about anything from hair products, cleaning products, car products, and even pet products, I have turned to viewpoints to figure out the best possible product to buy rather than waste my time and money with trial and error which is basically what I have done all of my life, and let's face it, that's a lot of time and money wasted which nobody can actually afford.

I have reviewed pantene hair products, windex and clorex cleaning products, off products, and Iams pet products just to name a few.

I just think this site is extroidinary and have referred...
...

mrkstvns says "May not be worthy of YOUR trust..." about Yelp.com

I used to like yelp, but I'm not sure I really place trust in their reviews anymore. They play games with their content (and not fun, good kinds of games). They allow companies being reviewed to comment on their reviews, denigrating the opinions of their customers, and they let companies pay to determine what order the reviews get listed.

Can anybody say "sleazy"??

Sure thing! I knew you could!

A review site that puts controls into the hands of the merchants is not to be trusted for impartiality. A review site that makes merchant comments more prominent than fair criticisms from legitimate clients should NOT be trusted.

I don't trust yelp anymore.

You shouldn't either.
...
