Looking for the perfect project for that 143 yards of orange-striped acrylic? Want to see everyone else's versions of the Jaywalker? Looking for other knitters who love the same webcomics you do? — Trust me: it's ALL on Ravelry. Be prepared to spend the time you've set aside for knitting here. You'll sign on, thinking you'll only spend a few minutes, looking for that perfect yarn--but then you find the forums, and you start looking at projects, and as soon as you know it it's the next morning and you forgot to sleep because of THE RAV. —...

Telpher says "A poignant look at one man's life, and his death" about Some Photos of that Day

In March 1979, when Jamie Livingston was a student at Bard College, he started taking one photo a day. Using a Polaroid SX-70 Land Camera, he began a dad-by-day photographic journal that he kept until the day he died, in 1997. After his death, a couple of Livngston's friends gathered the photographs, which Livingston had dated and filed in chronological order, and put them on exhibit at Bard, the photographer's alma mater. As one would expect, there were a few dates without photos: maybe Livingston didn't get around to taking pictures on thse days. Maybe he did take photos, but they were lost somewhere along the way. We'll never know. For the days that there are no photographs, his friends created simple date markers. The entire collection of photographs is up for viewing on a website called Some Photos of the Day. — Be Prepared.... — — Some Photos of the Day is among the most moving art websites I've ever encountered. Start at the very beginning of Livingston's...

I stumbled upon the Illustration Friday website through a friend's blog. It took me a while to participate, but once I did I was so happy to have found such a wonderful new place to express myself artistically. — This website is dubbed" Illustration Friday" because every Friday, the site managers post a new "theme". The theme is usually only one or two words, just enough to spark a thought. Artists of all skill levels are then encouraged to create a work of art based on the theme of the week and share it on the website. — I am not always able to participate, due to my busy schedule. But, I enjoy browsing and being thoroughly inspired by the amazing artists who participate. Many of the artists are published illustrators of children's books - a field in which I hope to make my mark someday. — Since you are required to post your artwork on your own blog before sharing on the website, I have found the blogs of many talented...

Many people will recognize the little Dick Blick logo man from their school days. This massive store has been around for ages, and not only caters to the artist but also schools. They have everything from professional artists materials and school/fun pack for children. They also carry an array of special needs products. Depending on what you are looking for their prices range from under a dollar to in the thousands. — — When I was attending the Art Institute I was required to have a wide range of materials, and being like many other college students I was broke. I shopped around on-line, and Dick Blick consistently came in at the top of the list for low prices. With lists in hand I was able to find everything I needed for my various classes, at lower prices and buy everything all at once and take advantage of their free shipping for purchases over $200. I have literally saved hundreds if not thousands over the years using this company. —...

I am sure there are some good aspects to poetry.com, but it is hard to find them among all the junk mail and spam. Everyone who submits to them receives mailings telling the writer how wonderful they are and promising all kinds of great awards and honors all of which cost money. if you want to see your name in print, it is a good thing because they will publish you, but of course you have to buy the anthology if you want a copy of your printed work. — I am published by them and it is a pretty decent book, but nothing that will ever get me real recognition because usually only frustrated hopefuls buy them. Still, the company sends me almost daily emails telling me that I am the greatest thing since sliced bread and trying to get me to purchase various services they offer. The voice of reason reminds me that if they think I have such talent then why haven't I actually won one of their contests? I honestly don't believe anyone ever truly wins, especially after...

Do you love to scrapbook? Do you ever find yourself with no time? This is the perfect site for you! — — How Fast They Grow is a digital scrapbook site that allows you to upload your own photos, then select from a variety of backgrounds and layouts. This site will put your pages together, and for a small fee ($7.50/page) they will ship your pages to you! — — You can then put the pages in your own scrapbook, or you can purchase a beautiful scrapbook from the How Fast They Grow store! — — The only drawback is that the pages only come in 12 x 12, so if you like making smaller scrapbooks, you will not be happy with this. But, for those of you who love scrapbooking but can never find the time, I would check this site...

Besides being a fun, free community full of crafters, designers, and retailers it the BEST online resource I have ever found. — My favorite thing about it is the "notebook." — Each user has the option to enter a list of projects both current and finished, along with photographs, comments, ratings, hyperlinks, etc. I don't know how I ever started a project with confidence before now! If I find a pattern that turns me on, I immediately go to Ravelry and see who else is working on it. I can check out what yarn they're using, pictures of what it looks like in different colors and on different bodytypes, how difficult they thought it was, etc. — You can also catalogue your fiber and needles stash.
Croupier says "Devoted to finding inspiration in the contemptibly familiar." about Interesting Ideas

Interesting Ideas enables its visitors to lose themselves in another place, another time--even though the images it presents to viewers are ones that many people see every day of their lives. Some would say that Interesting Ideas makes the ubiquitous interesting or the familiar extraordinary; I believe a better description of Interesting Ideas's work would say that the site simply exposes the fascinating already present in the everyday. In the context of an Interesting Ideas visual study, the near-mansard roof that bedecks many a McDonald's is highlighted as an American re-interpretation of French architecture, heavy with post-World War II ideas about conformity and aesthetics. The ubiquitous gyros signs that hang all over Chicago suddenly seem, when grouped en masse by Interesting Ideas, to stand perfectly for the ur-Midwestern values of hard work and using stick-to-your-ribs food to fuel your labor. — — The gyros sign gallery also serves to highlight Interesting Ideas's...
